Very pretty.
Please if haven’t already have a jeweler check all the stones to be sure they are each firmly set. If worn regularly repeat every 6 months.
Better to find everything is good than to have to find matching replacement stones.
Interm Of Jewelry as Well Amethyst Do Come in Very Large Sizes, it is a pretty ring, although not many people like big stones in their rings, Unique Choice !!! Congrats

Thank you! It’s c.1870s. Here’s a better photo of the gold work ☺️
Wow, I'm swooning! That's so so so beautiful <3 Thank you for sharing this viewpoint, I have to reiterate how freaking delicate it is!!!!! 1870's, did you inherit it?
My pleasure! It was actually an eBay find and I got a fantastic deal. If you want to see similar styles look up Etruscan revival, it was quite a popular style in the mid Victorian period, along with huge chunks of amethyst 😅
What a great find!!!! Cheers to you and I will definitely be keeping my eyes peeled!! It is my birthstone so I would love to find a beautiful piece like yours :)
Thought this was too large for a ring now I'm changing slowly my mind after seeing yours

I have seen them in that diameter, but yours is definitely one of the thickest and deepest stones I’ve seen. Nice!
You’ve got a few carats there, my guess is it’s between 4-6 carats
Thank you! At first I thought it had to be costume because it was so big, but it is in 14K, so I assume it has to be a real stone. No clue when someone would wear this though, I doubt my wife would ever want to take it out lol
Try it under different types of light, daylight, candlelight, fluorescent, incandescent, etc. I have a similar ring that is created alexandrite that changes color with different light sources.
I live in an area where you can frequently see giant raw amethyst in places like doctors offices and coffee shops. I’ve seen some 4 feet tall, they’re impressive. I have a chunk about 5 inches tall, so pretty.

My grandmother inheritance this from a wealthy women who she cleaned for when she was in her 20's. It was giving to me by my mother, since we are both Feb babies... Rose has diamonds.
I have an uncut, completely raw amethyst, it is the size of a small brick. My husband and I love rock hounding, we found it at the edge of a parking lot.
My sister purchased this on a trip and gifted it to me. It’s mine, my grandmother and one of my children’s birthstone. I want to have it put into a ring and upgrade my wedding set, but we are having a difficult time finding something to complement the stone, not overwhelm it. I LOVE big amethysts! Yours is stunning!!! 😍😍😍😍

I bought a similar ring for my aunt’s 90th birthday a few years ago. Amethyst’s are her birthstone. If she lives to be 100, I’ll have to get her an even bigger one. 😂
amethyst is not a particularly expensive or rare stone and they do appear in very large sizes .. this is a nice example .. pretty color
and a nice size .. but amethyst does come in sizes like this and larger .. all the time ..
And .. large semi precious stones were very popular in the 1930’s through the 1980’s ..
so ..
very cool !
( oh sorry .. jeweler here .. since 1989 )
oh, that is t h i c c
I have an amethyst of a similar diameter but it’s *much* shallower

It's beautiful. One of the last things my mom did before her dementia got really bad was have her large amethyst ring reset for me in white gold. (She wore only yellow gold.) I wear it on my right hand and rarely take it off or switch it out. It's close to the size of yours, but no way this clear.
i’ve got something similar that’s my engagement ring!

I have a pendant that size. Got it from my aunt in the 60’s, I was just a kid. My cousin got one in topaz. She bought them in Brazil. I treasure that necklace, but I never wear it. People always ask “is it real?” Annoying. Anyway, that ring is gorgeous! What a lovely and unique setting!
I have a similarly large amethyst ring I inherited from my grandmother (similar size, different cut). I don't wear it often because it IS so large, but just every now and then with the right outfit.
Beautiful ring!! Might be a lab created stone. (those have been around since the 50s) I only mention it because it looks uniform in color which is a characteristic of a lab created gem.
Very pretty. Please if haven’t already have a jeweler check all the stones to be sure they are each firmly set. If worn regularly repeat every 6 months. Better to find everything is good than to have to find matching replacement stones.
They grow very large. This size is not normal, for a ring, but it is not uncommon for an amethyst.
I should have clarified. I have definitely seen some of those man sized geodes before, but I was thinking in terms of jewelry
Very few are of flawless quality though
I have a necklace and a ring both with amethyst about this size. They were my grandmother's and I inherited the m.

Not normal for who...
Normal for me, but not for a lot.

Omgosh it is stunning! Love the gold work and it just goes to show that larger in not necessarily ostentatious. ❣️
Gorgeous ring.
Thats a really pretty one, nice color on it 🙌
Gorgeous!

Oh it's far too big for you... but it's my birthstone and would look amazing on my finger? ;)

More like 30 carats.
Badass

It’s really beautiful
My mom would have loved that. I love it, too.
Blingin!! 💜
I love amethysts! Beautiful ring.
Is that your hand or your wife’s?
Mine
It would be interesting to see how that looks on a smaller hand.
Beautiful ring.
Beautiful

I love seeing a nicely set large amethyst. It just goes to show that, nay they are not common! ❣️ Beautiful!
That is 1 gorgeous ring. A rare-looking piece. Absolutely stunning. Wouldn't surprise me, if it was a 1 of a kind piece.
What an amazing inherited ring! Its unique design reflects a rich history and adds a touch of elegance to its look.
Holy cow that’s a beautiful ring. I want it. Lucky inheritance.

A beautiful ring, for certain. I do have one similar in size.
Gorgeous!!!
Amethysts are great because they get so large and aren’t so expensive. Beautiful ring.
They are common and beautiful
It is very pretty 🥰
Don't get in a fist fight with that on... you might get charged with assault with a deadly weapon. That ring is shockingly cool :)
I have a larger emerald cut one. I’ve seen them over 100 carats.
