AI wrote every cover letter for about 600 applications I filled out. I got WAAAAY more responses and interviews this time around in my job search than my 2022 search where I didn't use it at all.

What kind of prompts did you input to generate the cover letter?

JesseVykar

"Please generate a cover letter based on my resume and the following job description. Please maximize your character count and do not include a header. Please focus on my relevant skills to the job posting and please make sure to end the letter thanking them for a possible opportunity to interview. Resume: pasted resume Job description:" I keep this whole bit copied to clip board so all I have to do is paste it and then paste the job description. If you're wondering why I would paste my resume every time it's because ChatGPT sometimes will put the company name from the last letter despite you posting a new job description. I don't know why it does it.

Brilliant, thanks. I could imagine there being some other inaccuracies in the cover letter, but nothing a good proofread couldn't fix.

I use ChatGPT to generate ideas for industries, and to write cover letters using my resume and job description.

I started doing this and getting more genuine responses back / interviews. They use a machine to sift, I use it to beat their machine.

Not sure if you mean using an AI tool to apply/find jobs or if you mean using AI to things like writing emails, upgrading your resume, cover letter, etc. But, I have used AI in both cases and also for job tasks. I was looking for a new job last year and I used MyPerfectResume to upgrade my resume. It's a good tool, however it can make your resume look a little generic, so adding your own input is important. I also used Chatgpt to give me suggestions on how to adjust my resume and cover letters and tailor them for specific job positions I was interested in. For the job search, I used LoopCV. If I remember right, and it hasn't been updated that much since last year, you give it info about the job you're looking for, then it searches for open positions in both job posting and private websites. I found this very helpful because it allowed me to learn about open positions that I wouldn't know unless I navigated each company's website. On the other hand, I believe you can link it to your indeed account and it will automatically apply for those "Apply Now" positions and can set it up to send an email to the recruiter. While the latter function can be helpful, I didn't use it because I think it can interfere with the hiring process e.g. the recruiter is expecting you to fill out an application but LoopCv sends them an email..." Oh wow, this guy really doesn't know how to follow instructions...Next!"

Absolutely. I use ChatGPT to help me tailor resumes and JobScan to screen it for keywords to please the ATS.

are their free ai services for either resume building or search? i tried chatgpt to do my resume, but did not like results. i use it for some cover letters, but i still have to modify them.

One thing I've done is I've written out my entire career history into Claude Opus (a different AI than ChatGPT). Think 10 pages worth of summary. Then I put in job description and ask it to use my career experience to generate a resume that fits. The purpose of this is that resumes can only be 1-2 pages, so the AI is able to give me resume content that actually takes into account my entire history while conforming to the job description. Proof read, format, and ready to go.

Nope. I didn't use it when I was applying for jobs. However, I use it daily for other stuff :) Just wanted to keep my natural self in CV, on LinkedIn, etc. Plus you can tell when it's written by AI if not modified. So it means a person didn't really put time nor effort. I don't think it's necessarily bad, just a thought ☺️Use it if it works for you 👍

yeah I notice that ChatGPT tends to have a certain voice, and once you've seen it a few times you notice it from a mile away. Definitely wouldn't do it without proofreading and editing it, frankly I don't really want to do it at all, kinda just fear of falling behind if I don't

https://first2apply.com/ recetly added an smart filter that uses AI to remove all the junk listings you usually see on linkedin, indeed, dice and the likes.
