If you're looking for a FREE search management tool (no AI, I believe that it is a bad idea) take a look at a web app I built. I have seen first-hand the mental and emotional toll involved in finding a new job. With the massive waves of layoffs, I had some free time and decided to do something to help. I wrote [ManageJobApplications.com](http://managejobapplications.com/) based on my own experiences and what others post about on this sub, with a particular eye toward supporting networking. It manages your job applications (storing each custom cover letter and resume if you want) and contact information for all the hiring managers, recruiters, and networking contacts that you meet. I added some tools for JD keyword highlighting, expense and deadline tracking, and a browser extension that imports job postings with one click. I tried to make networking easier by organizing all the person-to-person relationships so you don't have to. There is NO attempt to monetize this site. **Everything is free**. You don't even need to provide an email if you don't want password recovery. If you're struggling with an Excel sheet right now, there's a simple importer so you don't retype anything.

I've been using Teal. [https://www.tealhq.com/](https://www.tealhq.com/) They have a free tier, and it's saved my sanity by providing a jobs tracker and helps to create custom resumes for each listing with AI matching to the job description if you want to use that. I can track status as well as contacts and notes so that all my research and follow-ups are all in one place.

I'm not convinced they do anything I couldn't do myself. I certainly wouldn't be willing to pay for any such tool unless there was a money back guarantee that I got a job offer (not just an interview) within a reasonably short time frame.

There have been numerous posts both here and on other subs that confirm the fact that tailoring your resume for every job is not worth it. Create a good looking resume that will catch the eye of the recruiter and apply to jobs where you are a good fit. This seems to be the succesful formula. Tracking job applications can be helpful so you don’t have to manually manage excel sheets. You can give https://first2apply.com/ a try, it’s an aggregator that can search jobs from 10+ sites like linkedin, indeed, glassdoor, dice etc.

Check out this thread where actual recruiters talk about this topic https://www.reddit.com/r/recruiting/s/8taSbeJPEI

can you explain a bit more about what you mean when you say tailoring for every job isnt worth it? I understand it takes longer, but why wouldnt tailoring your resume for a job description increase your chances

drakedemon

Why would it? People do that because they think ATS systems use AI to do keyword matching on their resumes, which is not the case. Search this sub and you’ll see people copy pasting the entire job description in their resume with a white font and swear it got them more interviews.

Apprehensive-Ant7955

Yes, let’s assume that thats not the case (i dont know either way, and dont care) So let’s say you have two resumes, one is your generic resume for, let’s say, full stack web development and you are applying to a full stack web dev position. Why would it not be beneficial to have a more tailored version for that job you’re applying to? By emphasizing relevant tech stack, or perhaps one of your side projects is relevant to the posting. Or did you just mean its just not worth doing if its solely for the ATS. I just dont understand how tailoring your resume is not worth it

I launched JobBuddy last your, which is an[ AI cover letter generator](https://www.jobbuddytech.com). We offer a free tier, and if you need it I'm happy to throw you a trial for the premium tier for free (I have to charge for some stuff, because severs are expensive). Just upload your resume and link to the job description and you can generate a personalized, professionally formatted cover letter as a formatted PDF/word document. You can edit in the browser or download it to tweak it further. It offers loads of customisation options to change the template, make the AI sound like you, customize the length, creativity etc. So the end result is much better than using ChatGPT. Also, I've been obsessing over feedback from thousands of users to make the cover letters better every week, so I genuinely believe it's the best out there. The prompt is currently 1,000 words long, on average, and using ChatGPT 4o.

Try Jobflow. It's currently free, but users like it compared to the tools you mention because we don't just give you the feedback on what needs to be improved in your resume - we actually do all the optimization and tailoring for you. Users say it's like running 30 different prompts in ChatGPT4o, but they still need to edit afterwards on their own. We use 4 different AI models in parallel to perform various tasks, so we only require 2 steps from the user. Simply 1) upload your current resume 2) copy and paste the details from a job posting you want to apply to 3) and we'll tailor your resume and write a personalized cover letter that matches. It takes less than 2 minutes end-to-end and you'll be able to download both in a formatted, ATS-friendly file. Try it here and let me know what you think: [https://www.myjobflow.com/](https://www.myjobflow.com/)

This would have been nice to have two months ago. I've been doing a mix of ChatGBT and hand edited resumes, Cover letters and Statement of Qualifications letters, and other documents. Thank you for the tip. As for tracking everything every job I apply for has either a job reference number or a company/position title in the name of the document. So I have a rough idea of how many documents I have sent out.

MyJobflow

My pleasure. It sounds like you landed something? Congratulations!

Saxboard4Cox

Nope still interviewing and plugging away.

MyJobflow

Ah, I see, well best of luck to you! Let me know if we can help in any way.
