Loved me some M&S when we visited. Also might have saved a guy that worked at one from going to jail!
He fought a shoplifter but was complete self defense. I gave a statement to an officer at the scene and ended up meeting with a detective. Detective said my independent statement really helped him determine if charges would not go towards the worker.
You need these:
*Scotch egg - Fortnum & Mason
*Cornish Pasty - West Cornwall Pasty Co at Waterloo Station or The Pasty Shop at Charring Cross Station. You must have the ‘traditional’ or if you must, steak and ale - all other fillings folk put in a pasty case pale in comparison.
*Pork pie - Melton Mowbray can be bought reliable in M&S - but Fortnum and Mason, and as others have noted, Ginger Pig do a mean pork pie.
*Steak & Kidney pudding (NB, pudding> pie) - I have no recommendations here - I get it at my Mum’s place 😊
*Toasted crumpets with lashings of butter - buy your own at M&S - though you may find the occasional ‘caff’ that does them.
*Toad in the hole - though a recent thread (3 months back?) suggest this is now extinct in London except as ready meal in Coop, possibly other supermarkets. (and also my Mum’s place - but she only cooks it for those she loves I’m afraid)
* Eccles cakes - M&S
If you can afford it, try going to some of the great restaurants London has to offer. St John (in Farringdon) does some of the best British cuisine; I recommend trying the Welsh rarebit and bone marrow. I hear The Ginger Pig in Borough Market does great savory pastries too, especially their sausage rolls. Enjoy your stay.
Find the biggest Waitrose you can and buy all the classic British food. Melton Mowbray pork pies, crumpets, scones, clotted cream, pickles, alllllll the cheeses!!! tea cakes, scotch eggs, welsh cakes, fancy sausage rolls….
And the puddings. God I miss British puddings after moving abroad. Sticky toffee pudding, Eton mess, Bakewell tarts, syrup sponge, treacle tart, bread and butter pudding, banoffee pie, apple and blackberry crumble, trifle…. Oh I’m hungry.
Not sure. One thing I do know is that M&S food is generally much better than Waitrose. Often Waitrose is worse than Tesco and other cheaper supermarkets. I really think it just gets by on its name.
I really enjoyed Honest Burger when I visited! Otherwise, you can get all kinds of different foods. Just make sure to get a fry up and a Sunday roast, those are things of beauty.

Eat your way through Borough Market
They need to go to Tesco’s… I think borough might be too high brow.
😂

Cafe Rouge is the worst. Literally amazed it’s still in business.
Be bold and head to Brixton for Jamaican food and East London for South Asian food
Great tip - Brixton market, under the rail arches, is a trove of awesome finds. Cheap too!
Get yourself a good carvery roast on Sunday and you'll have all you need.
Wouldn’t recommend a carvery. A decent independent pub more likely to do a good roast
Skip Tesco got to m&s

Fry up from a proper English cafe should be on your list!

I mean. Fish n chips. Kedgeree Indian food saved London so you gotta eat Indian.
Go to Goddard’s at Greenwich for very traditional meat pies in a historical setting, and they even have jellied eels!
Melton Mobray Pork Pies.

I second the Ginger Pig in Borough Market, fantastic sausage rolls.

Omggg def going there thanks
M&S >>>>>>> Waitrose
Is the cheese selection as good? Haven’t been in ages and I can never find one as big as a waitrose!! Love the pizzas and snacky food m&s do
Not sure. One thing I do know is that M&S food is generally much better than Waitrose. Often Waitrose is worse than Tesco and other cheaper supermarkets. I really think it just gets by on its name.
I *love* waitrose and the quality of its stuff! Ill have to check our M&S now to see what it’s like. Can never find a massive one.
Try the vegetarian ramen at Wetherspoons, had to phone Samaritans afterwards
Percy pigs, full English, twiglets, wine gums. The list goes on
Go to the markets! We did Borough & Camden and found the best food there. So many amazing choices.
I really enjoyed Honest Burger when I visited! Otherwise, you can get all kinds of different foods. Just make sure to get a fry up and a Sunday roast, those are things of beauty.
M&S Percy Pigs & Best Ever Prawn Sandwich. Try Monster Munch and Walkers Poppadoms (Lime and Coriander Chutney flavour)
[The wiki](https://www.reddit.com/r/london/wiki/londonfood) ticks all the highlights. Add some jellied eel to your list.
Definitely don’t go to Tesco unless you want to try some different snacks.
Yess this is the exact reason I want to go
Popeyes chicken
