Wasn’t Britain ruled by a French King at certain period?
Edit: I appreciate the positive discussions. While the historical context is valuable, my snarky remark was to point out that the meme was tasteless as a joke and should not be given audience.
German and Greek. We've been ruled by the French, Germans, Italians etc etc.
There is a genuine problem with immigration though, Brexit was not the answer the boomers wanted however.
I also don't know for sure right now. But I vaguely remember the story that after the independence from the Ottomans, the Greek looked for a monarch and after some search they came up with a branch of the Bavarian royal family. Enough nobility, important enough to not be ridiculed, but not so important that they would be automatically intertwined with the drama going on in Europe.
Greece was a democracy immediately after the revolution but the Great Powers (Russia, UK, France) didn't like the governor and forced a king and the regime to become a monarchy.
French, German, Scottish, Dutch most of their history they have been ruled by a foreigner im not sure but from all the kings and queens i know of non have been English
I don't think the issue is nationality it's about skin color. French is basically white. They have an issue with Muslims and brown people in their government.
Their entire Royal dynasty is of Norman descent, with the Normans being Vikings that settled in France (Normandy). There also is some additional Danish ancestry in there, and while you can trace the lineage back all the way to William the Conqueror, the current ruling house is of Northern German descent.
It was deleted, two years ago too, but I remember it clearly.
It was a nearly hollocost supporting post that someone manages to sneak it's fat ass cheeks past the non-existent rules of that subreddit.
Funny memes has been hitting the front page a lot today with sexist and racist memes that have all been posted by accounts that were created in October 2023 and have had very little engagement until posting said memes. Someone is trying to astroturf the sub with their culture war BS.
Seriously a shocking amount of incel far right bullshit has been exploding in that sub recently. Only time I see it is when it’s on the front page with some more blatant sexism.
I saw one post from there hit the front page somehow with negative karma. Not sure if it's some internal tweaking going on somewhere, or just a botnet that gamed the system really well then it got down voted aggressively once actual people saw it.
Based on this information, you’re not really playing the devils advocate, you’re just sharing additional information. Just because they had no choice, does not negate the fact that they fought in the war. “Britain sacrificed a generation of their best men” - yes, among these “best men” were a bunch of foreigners who were forced into war. Their lives were just as valuable as those of British origin.
Yes, the choice between starving to death or joining the military and hoping to not die.
All the government employment was with the British, and private business was very very difficult. What choice did British government leave colonial Indians?
There wasn't really conscription from the colonies because there was really a need for it.
Thousands signed up in droves from Canada, Australia and New Zealand in both World Wars. South Africa is odd in its policies due to how racist the country was. And India raised the largest volunteer army in history in WW2, beating it's own record set in the first world war.
India's complicated because obviously Churchill was a raging racist but we do have it recorded that he attempted to have more food sent to India during the 1943 famine
To play devils devils advocate, if you conquer the entire world then everyone in the world is part of your kingdom.
Like if you claim a country full of brown people to be yours then stfu when all of those brown people want representation in your government. The UK did this. It's really simple.
You’re not playing devils advocate, you’re plain lying or have been misinformed. My great great grandfather died during the Mesopotamian Campaign and wasn’t conscripted. The records of Punjabi soldiers were kept in a museum in Lahore and was digitally released a few years ago.
It was already full of misogyny when I muted this sub, but they managed to diversify, racism now 👏
Those are not lost redditors, they perfectly know that their incel and racist friends are here to laugh at their "jokes"
Wtf is up with that sub? I never paid much attention to it in the past, but I’ve seen several posts from there on the front page recently that are unapologetically racist and misogynistic.
I have no evidence to support this, but it honestly feels like an astroturfed alt right pipeline disguised as "memes." The fact that it their posts that make it to r/popular always have between 1 to 2 thousand positive votes makes me think they're artificially inflated with bots.
But there is nothing funny nor memes about the crap they've been posting lately
Check the accounts of the posters. Looked at one yesterday, account created in October of last year, first ever comment was yesterday and some misogynistic bullshit was their first ever post.
Never follow the sub but saw it on the front page recently with blatantly racist memes. And it definitely felt like a coordinated effort. Honestly I don't ever recall seeing the sub on the front page ever. Bot network go?
At no point has any meme on that sub been either "funny" or a "meme".
It's almoat entirely misogynist incel reactionary nonsense with a few emphis included.
I would not be surprised if this "meme" was made by Russia/China. They're deliberately trying to invoke an emotional response and divide.
If this was made by a racist Brit, it would no doubt refer to those people in the picture with the racist terms that they throw about like they're nothing.
when i was in school, we spent almost every history lesson, for my entire education, learning about either ww2 or medieval britain. so this person is just extra racist and stupid
In my experience. Primary school history was a mixed bag of what the class wanted to learn about I had an excellent teacher who basically said choose a time from history and he will make a lesson on it so we did Romans. Ancient Egypt. Greeks. Then in secondary school year 7 we started at 1066 the battle of Hastings and did pretty much all to do with the medieval period and the Tudor period. Year 8 was from the Tudor period till the early 1900s and year 9 was ww1 and 2 with a bit of modern conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan towards the end of the year. Year 10 and 11 I didn't take history but I believe they did more about American history
The empire they "sacrificed" were, of course, the parents of the Indians, Africans, Caribbeans and others you see here.
You can die for Britain, but never imagine you will be accepted by Britain.
im not very familiar with london politics, but that was kinda my understanding. taking a preference for somebody who was worse for london, because of their name and skin colour. what a disgrace
Wasn't that also a big part of the brexit. That the EU was letting in all kinds of unvetted refugees and the UK didn't want to be forced into taking them?
i actually muted r/funnymemes. it keeps coming across r/all (unusually often, i feel?) and the memes are always similarly shitty and along similar lines
Disguising racist/antisemitic/sexist/homophobic ect. rhetoric as ‘funny’ memes is a common tactic to normalize their behavior. All meme subs are full of it.
I checked this sub yesterday after being recommended this "meme" by reddit and holy shit this is not an isolated incident. The sub has turned completely racist now, this isn't a coincidence.
There was another "meme" about the state of dating apps where it just showed white girls with the grotesque troll cartoon depiction of black people as a kid in there arms to signifie... something ? And this was posted THE SAME DAY as the meme we are discussing smh, it even had thousands of upvotes
Ironically, the large number of immigrants and other non-European ethnicities there is caused by past imperialism. This is like Newton's third law for government policy. They exploit other nations, and the result are their nations also being exploited by other nations.
This morning there was a meme posted of black babies drawn as jim crow racist caricatures, others like disfigured gargoyles. The guy who posted them isnt banned, the post was up for hours and got like 3k upvotes. That place needs to go. Literal black babies are targeted. Insane.
It's r/Funnymemes , if it isn't a Karma farmer re-posting the same stealth comment begging shite over and over again, its casual/anything but casual Rascism/transphobia etc.
The irony of this though, we sacrificed a generation of our best men in WW2 fighting against facsists and the exact sort of people that would make that "meme"!
I dont see what is racist here, am i racist if i dont want germany to rule finland. (Might be because i have very bad english as u can read)
I dont eaven like EU becaus they rule our contry in shit that dosent belong to them
Because it's implying foreign (brown people) are running the UK (when that isn't even true)
It also ties into the Great Replacement conspiracy theory, alleging that white people are being replaced by brown people, even though that's not the case either.
that's...basically half of meme subreddits
no jokes, just racism
elections are coming so, you know who some of these people are and who pays some of them
The author is a dreadful racist. The previous generations of many nationalities and faiths represented in that photo fought for Britain in many wars, and still do today. Then they came here legally for economic or other reasons. They are as British today as I am. This does not negate the fact that our national borders are totally uncontrolled and we have a serious immigration problem.
Story: A meme about UK, desperately needing workers for low income jobs. They had to turn to previous colonies because the domestic work force preferred the use social benefits rather than working at all.
Wasn’t Britain ruled by a French King at certain period? Edit: I appreciate the positive discussions. While the historical context is valuable, my snarky remark was to point out that the meme was tasteless as a joke and should not be given audience.
yep. also pretty sure the royal family is of german and danish descent.
DENMARK MENTINED RAH🇩🇰🇩🇰🇩🇰🔥🇩🇰
Did I hear someone mention DENMARK. Lets goooo. Edit oh it was about the british royal family. Never mind.
Rahhh wtf is a comprehensible language
RAAAAAAH IM NOT EVEN DANISH BUT LETS FUCJING GOOOOOO
Ah, yes, the beer and Lego country. Best kind of country!
If I think of beer, I think of Germany. Anything in Denmark that should make that change?
Not the Lego people again
Uhtred, son of Uhtred ran the show a bit too if I recall.
"I'm as British as the queen!" "You mean your half German, your father's German, and you married a German?"
You see, I have a cunning plan
As cunning as a fox who's just been appointed Professor of Cunning at die Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München?
Windsor's old family name is Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, it was only changed in 1917 by King George V, I don't know why 🤔
And inbred as shit
Partially why English is a fucked up language.
German and Greek. We've been ruled by the French, Germans, Italians etc etc. There is a genuine problem with immigration though, Brexit was not the answer the boomers wanted however.
Wasn't the Greek royal family not also Bavarian at the time when they intermarried? That would still make them basically German.
There were 2 different royal families, the first one being Bavarian (Otto A'), the second one (George A') being of Danish descent
But that line was also originally German nobility (lol)
Partly yes, also Danish and Swedish in there
Nope they had a bavarian King but he was removed in a revolution his name is Otto I.
Could well be right, I don't know my own history well enough.
Prince Phillip wasn't ethnically Greek either, that's just his title. The former Greek royal family is also ethnically German.
The royal family traces their origins and legitimacy to rule from William the Conqueror, who invaded England from France in 1066.
French, German, Scottish, Dutch most of their history they have been ruled by a foreigner im not sure but from all the kings and queens i know of non have been English
Which, I believe, makes this picture and meme tasteless. I know it’s a small dig to their current PM. So far I think he’s doing great.
Is that sarcasm? Rishi has been terrible!
Richard the Lionheart spoke no English apparently.
I don't think the issue is nationality it's about skin color. French is basically white. They have an issue with Muslims and brown people in their government.
England has been succesfull ever since outsiders took over lmao romans, normans, anglo saxons etc.
Yeah, and their current royal family is related to the nobility of Saxony, Germany if I'm not wrong.
And a dutch king.
Their entire Royal dynasty is of Norman descent, with the Normans being Vikings that settled in France (Normandy). There also is some additional Danish ancestry in there, and while you can trace the lineage back all the way to William the Conqueror, the current ruling house is of Northern German descent.
Dieu et mon droit!
WW2. Invalid joke?
Only for the past 9 centuries.
Also a Scottish one. Then an orange one. Then a German one who couldn't speak English.
Second worst post I've seen from r/funnymenes This doesn't even constitute as a framework of a meme, this is an image.
Whats the first worst post
It was deleted, two years ago too, but I remember it clearly. It was a nearly hollocost supporting post that someone manages to sneak it's fat ass cheeks past the non-existent rules of that subreddit.
I’m so glad I muted that subreddit years ago
Yea, that sub is muted on every single one of my accounts, and I don’t regret it
Kind of just seems like an average post for that sub based on what normally pops up on Popular.
The entire sub seems mostly to be an excuse to post hate with the justification of "just a joke meme lol"
You just hate comedy /s A lot of them literally counter with a variant of that and expect people to be like “oh you’re right this meme IS funny”
Can we all agree to block this sub? It seems to be full of incels upvoting rubbish that somehow gets to the front page.
I just checked the sub and the one featured here doesn't seem to be a lostredditor, that subreddit is full of rage bait and right wing nuts.
Ive just blocked that sub. Just a pathetic cringe cesspool.
The sub sucks. Its straight up posts that reminds me of the shitty facebook posts ending up on r/forwardsfromgrandma.
A lot of memes start from just images. If you captioned it something like "pov, you just opened a pack of gum" it would be funny enough
Saw this r/Funnymemes post on my homepage and thought it belonged on r/lostredditors . Scrolled down a bit more and was not disappointed.
ok but the real question is why are you subbed to r/Funnymemes ?
Funny memes has been hitting the front page a lot today with sexist and racist memes that have all been posted by accounts that were created in October 2023 and have had very little engagement until posting said memes. Someone is trying to astroturf the sub with their culture war BS.
Seriously a shocking amount of incel far right bullshit has been exploding in that sub recently. Only time I see it is when it’s on the front page with some more blatant sexism.
how do you define recent? cuz i've been seeing that shit for months
I saw one post from there hit the front page somehow with negative karma. Not sure if it's some internal tweaking going on somewhere, or just a botnet that gamed the system really well then it got down voted aggressively once actual people saw it.
Glad it’s not just me that noticed it. After the third clearly far-right incel post I just muted them.
bro thinks there are funny memes on r/Funnymemes
i saw it on the popular page
I am not subbed to r/Funnymemes. But for some reason, reddit thinks that I really like their posts when I downvate 50% of them.
you can turn off suggested subreddits in settings. I remember I used to get recommended a lot of tankie subreddits before turning it off
shouldn't have gone for a world tour (or colonization) then. Also many Indians, Arabs and Africans fought for the British against the axis during WW2.
To play devils advocate here, what choice did they have? Refuse conscription and be arrested etc
Based on this information, you’re not really playing the devils advocate, you’re just sharing additional information. Oh thanks for the info! I don’t know much about any of that history, I’m just pointing out the logical flaws in the previously given statements.
Did a Redditor just thank someone for correcting them? IMPOSSIBLEEEEEE!!!!
Yes, the choice between starving to death or joining the military and hoping to not die. All the government employment was with the British, and private business was very very difficult. What choice did British government leave colonial Indians?
I mean it wasn’t the Brits who started the war, what choice did anyone who fought have?

South Africa is odd in its policies due to how racist the country was. And India raised the largest volunteer army in history in WW2, beating it's own record set in the first world war.
I’m gonna be a stickler over this but Canada wasn’t a colony in either of the world wars, it was a dominion. Idk about the others though.
And India was thanked for that by being starved to death.

They had a choice. India has THE largest voluntary army in the whole empire
Not arrested but British used to tie them to end of cannon and blow them
There was no conscription in India during the second world war, and also nobody blown from cannons either.
Rishi Sunak and Sadiq Khan were both born in Britain. They are British.
Don’t forget Canada, Australia and New Zealand.
Aah a firm believer of "everyone lived in harmony until the fire nation attacked."
That sub is steering more and more into being an alt-right shitposting sub. Reminds me of what happened to 9gag
[удалено]
I visited it last year, it got so much worse
That’s not really alt-right shitposting, that’s just straight up simple alt-right posting
Thats not alt right thats straight up simple racism
yep, decided to leave it yesterday because of that post. noticed a pattern i didnt like.
The Windsors are a German house of royalty.
It was already full of misogyny when I muted this sub, but they managed to diversify, racism now 👏 Those are not lost redditors, they perfectly know that their incel and racist friends are here to laugh at their "jokes"
The millions of Indians, Canadians, and other people from British colonies that fought for them in both World Wars: Am I a joke to you?

Honest question, is the British school system this bad?
I would not be surprised if this "meme" was made by Russia/China. They're deliberately trying to invoke an emotional response and divide. If this was made by a racist Brit, it would no doubt refer to those people in the picture with the racist terms that they throw about like they're nothing.
when i was in school, we spent almost every history lesson, for my entire education, learning about either ww2 or medieval britain. so this person is just extra racist and stupid
What about the first civilisations, the Classical Era, the Renaissance Era, Feudalism, the Black Plague, the Roman Empire, WW1?
In my experience. Primary school history was a mixed bag of what the class wanted to learn about I had an excellent teacher who basically said choose a time from history and he will make a lesson on it so we did Romans. Never forget they colonized a vast majority of the world way before that and did horrific things in those colonies
Those Germanic invaders drove away the original population. Rise, descendants of the celts and drive them away!
Side note, the amount of racism running rampant on r/Europe is honestly insane
You can't unbecome a former colonial power lol
That sub is a goldmine of laughably badly Masked racism
I reported this for hate and got a message saying it didn't violate any policy
I blocked funnymemes. Nothing funny to be found there. Just racism, misoginy, and so forth
The empire they "sacrificed" were, of course, the parents of the Indians, Africans, Caribbeans and others you see here. You can die for Britain, but never imagine you will be accepted by Britain.
Sadiq Khan, pictured, has objectively done far more for London as mayor than Boris Johnson has done. I say this as someone who lives in London.
im not very familiar with london politics, but that was kinda my understanding. taking a preference for somebody who was worse for london, because of their name and skin colour. what a disgrace
People downvoting me because they know I’m right. Bet they aren’t even from London either
I renember seeing that post and thinking "wtf??"
But……… aren’t they German? Saxe coburg gothe
uhh i think it was to fight fascism
Bold of you to assume a sub called "funny memes" would have funny memes on it
Just racist click bait, not even an ounce of truth.
It’s funny because we’ve been a multi national country since the Viking landed and all the other countries that moved to the uk. Ie Rome
Meanwhile the royal family's ancestry being from Germany
Disguising racist/antisemitic/sexist/homophobic ect. rhetoric as ‘funny’ memes is a common tactic to normalize their behavior. All meme subs are full of it.
And here I thought in WW2 it was about not being ruled by fascist scum.
Celts, Romans, Germans, Franks and Vikings. And we are not really in the medieval era yet. So do not start with the "Keep Britain White" crap on me.
So when they do colonization it's fine but when people are moving to their country and becoming their citizens suddenly it's an issue?
I checked this sub yesterday after being recommended this "meme" by reddit and holy shit this is not an isolated incident. The sub has turned completely racist now, this isn't a coincidence. There was another "meme" about the state of dating apps where it just showed white girls with the grotesque troll cartoon depiction of black people as a kid in there arms to signifie... something ? And this was posted THE SAME DAY as the meme we are discussing smh, it even had thousands of upvotes
Ummm…they fought Germany to prevent worldwide domination and global genocide of ethnic minorities
Where was Queen Victoria from again?
Ironically, the large number of immigrants and other non-European ethnicities there is caused by past imperialism. This is like Newton's third law for government policy. They exploit other nations, and the result are their nations also being exploited by other nations.
That sub is a damn cesspool of racism and bigotry
The entire subreddit is lost, it's just either FB Boomer ass shitmemes, obvious ragebait or this kind of right wing propaganda
This morning there was a meme posted of black babies drawn as jim crow racist caricatures, others like disfigured gargoyles. The guy who posted them isnt banned, the post was up for hours and got like 3k upvotes. That place needs to go. Literal black babies are targeted. Insane. [https://imgur.com/a/lbiAGC5](https://imgur.com/a/lbiAGC5)
THEIR best men? What about the millions of Indians (including my grandpa) that fought for you guys during ww2
r/Funnymemes has been like that for a while now
True
It's r/Funnymemes , if it isn't a Karma farmer re-posting the same stealth comment begging shite over and over again, its casual/anything but casual Rascism/transphobia etc. The irony of this though, we sacrificed a generation of our best men in WW2 fighting against facsists and the exact sort of people that would make that "meme"!
I can explain why this meme is funny af
Who was the last actual English king of Britain?
No, this isn't a r/lostredditors moment at all. r/Funnymemes is just like that. Filled with conservative, "anti-woke" crap.
Ironic that their ruling family is German
I muted that sub earlier today because I kept seeing shit like that. I'm pretty sure it's becoming a place for xenophobes to post their memes
yeah, just did that myself after seeing a super sexist post
Uff...the irony of colony loving Brits calling foreign rule "hostile" and "bad for British culture " is just...wow

I dont see what is racist here, am i racist if i dont want germany to rule finland. (Might be because i have very bad english as u can read) I dont eaven like EU becaus they rule our contry in shit that dosent belong to them

You are wrong, momma's boy.

Nationality and race are different things....
That subreddit is a hive of scum and villainy
The British ARE the foreign people. If you don’t want foreigners being part of your state, then don’t include half the world into your state.
I’m pretty sure that’s ethnocentrism not racism .
If you haven't noticed, many of the large "meme" subreddits have tons of right wing propaganda posted in them as "jokes"
FUNNY AF THO
And they thought Brexit will stop non-white people from entering the UK
A few days ago, there was a racist "meme" against Indians too in that sub.
Why do they never have funny memes?
that's...basically half of meme subreddits no jokes, just racism elections are coming so, you know who some of these people are and who pays some of them
update, just checked, most hateful posts are from accounts made around the same time (21-23 october 2023) and were inactive until like 4-5 days ago
There's a good few comments in this thread too.
I wonder if they're chatgpt or just some russian teenagers lmao

Bruh this page has no funny memes. Oh, and i also dont think racist and misogynistic insults hidden as "jokes" as funny.
That whole subreddit is just racism.
They can’t be mad when they colonized and ruled over half the world…
Oh, the irony of this coming from Britain
When did this happened?
What do they mean what happened? They answered their own question - they sacrificed a whole generation /s
Given the image that is used, I think it was sarcasm
While it's not the main point: UK lost about 1% of it's 1939 population USSR lost 13%
Story: A meme about UK, desperately needing workers for low income jobs. They had to turn to previous colonies because the domestic work force preferred the use social benefits rather than working at all.
