I am so here for this being a cycle, Sarkhan's Unsealing is my favourite pet card as I came back to Magic after years and years when it was in standard, looping [[Gate Colossus]] for fun and profit (and excessive damage)
I'll also add that this interacts with Ugin's lab.
You can fill your deck up with affinity 7 drops, synthesiser and low cost artifacts (frogmites including the new one also produce eld spawns with this out) and deck done.
Does this work with evoke as well?
I'm wondering if this could just slot into some form of domain where draco now draws 3 and any elemental evokes ramp you a bit.
4 thought monitor

I love having 16 ancestral recalls in my deck, four of which are actually draw 5
Doing nothing on ETB is an upside because your opponent never receives priority between resolving the enchantment and putting your draw 3 trigger on the stack.
Now consider the downside instead. Currently Affinity isnt doing too hot in modern, plenty of decks that can outrace/outcombo it. And MH3 is likely to bring some other busted shit that may speed up other decks too. Can you really afford a do-nothing turn to set up?
*"play kozilek's unsealing, next turn Im going to draw so many ca...oh...nice, Im dead."*
This is coming from a strictly edh player, but wouldn't you generally have the ability to freecast one or two of your affinity spells by turn 3? I don't remember which format, legacy or vintage, I used to help a friend deck test in but I know in that on you consistently could drop 5 or 6 drop affinity cards on turn 1 or 2.
You can probably T2 with drum, but lowering your artifact count to instead include an enchantment that doesnt inmediatly synergize with anything in your deck is how you end up casting this on T3. Also, this card makes you want to NOT dump your hand on T2 because then your missing on the advantage of playing it, its at odds with itself.
And it doesnt inmediatly impact the board when you get rolling, it just gives you future CA. Sure, with this the deck can probably grind like a champ, but I mean..is that really the axis that Affinity wants to fill in modern? Instead of just outright go for the kill?
Take synthersizer for comparison, not only synergizes with the deck, but also impacts the board and accrues value inmediatly when you get it rolling and by next turn your 100% presenting lethal
There is! I don't know if going grixis while trying to play artifact lands is ideal though. Affinity has usually been either mono-blue, a splash into one color, or UW -- I don't know if playing more bridge taplands is worth getting the new demon in the list. I think there's room for a separate RB affinity list with land destruction and maybe [[blood fountain]], with the new demon.
With Prototype, the way you cast it actually determines the MV (and color). Though if it's sitting in your graveyard or library, it's colorless and has the "full" CMC.
Yeah first card in a while that made we look at my MW list. Likely will try it out but I never found [[Sarkhan’s unsealing]] to be very good, this is cheaper, ramps and draws cards though..
I personally have always been happy with sarkhan's unsealing in the deck. Deck has issues with random hatebears so unsealing let's me snipe them or wipe em out.

Straight into [[Kruphix]] for me. It’s already an Eldrazi + friends deck.
Friends like [[Nezahal, Primal Tide]], who now will draw 3 cards on top of all the others. Juicy
Costs 1 more mana and doesn't draw a card on its own, needs 7 MV in order to draw, but you also get tons of Spawns... there's always the possibility that they did test it and decide they just want Modern to look like this now.
Yeah, it made good things better, and replaced itself so there was functionally no deckbuilding cost to running it. This at least forces you into some deckbuilding decisions.
And the decks that played it didnt fold super hard to insane silver bullets
Affinity is the kind of deck that when people want to rekt it, they are going to REALLY rekt it, with or without this card
Yeah, the 'story' stuff for MH3 is covering the Eldrazi arc (as much as the webfiction covers it) from The Lithomancer up to the deaths of Ulamog and Kozilek. Doesn't seem to be covering SOI though.
The fact neither of the modes are specific to eldrazi or colorless creatures in general is really cool. I could see this seeing tons of play in Ux stompy decks in Commander like Aftermath Kiora sea-monsters or Maelstrom Wanderer.
Not exactly - this card is blue. That’s actually a pretty significant difference, blue decks tend to have much fewer creatures that cost 6+ mana.
If you were running blue and green, though, yes this is better all of the time. But I think that’s a relevant note for commander at a minimum - I don’t predict this card seeing much tournament play.
Blech I hate devoid for this exact reason lol
But yeah I just meant that this card wanting your deck to be playing blue mana is a not insignificant difference
yeah... -1 mana value, -1 colored mana, +devoid (protection from cards that interact with colored cards), +another great ability for lower mana value creatures, +not limited to eldrazis, +1 in card draw on main ability. AND still the same rarity. This is probably the biggest buff to a card i've ever witnessed...
Adding that Sarkhan's Unsealing was also referencing Sarkhan Vol contributing to the opening of the Eye of Ugin, which began the process to free the Eldrazi entirely. Chandra and Jace also contributed, and it was revealed that this was intentionally planned by Nicol Bolas.
This seems surprisingly good. Ramp and great card draw, on a 3 mana enchantment. It requires you to actually cast other stuff, but it seems like it would quickly add up.
Uh well this is kinda gross in [[tobias doomed conquerer]]
With this, ashnod's and mana filtering, you can get the stable infinite zombies combo with no creature buffer
And here was me thinking Kappa Cannoneer was an auto include for affinity... now there is tension and some deck building choices to be made which keeps it interesting
Mana value is literally the total value for cost **written** on the top of the card, the value written doesn't change with discount (you pay less mana, but the written value is unchanged)
For X spells the mana value changes on the stack because the X is written on the cost.
EDIT.: the exception being spells with prototype and adventure, the rules for prototype and adventure calls for the MV of the mode being cast. And for prototype, the permament MV is also the prototype one.
This Yugioh esque retrain of Eldrazi is going pretty hard. Something tells me at one point the first ability was 4 or more and you could get both abilities if you did 7 or greater.
Modern 2/10
So modern has a ton of ways to cast expensive creatures for cheap or free. Like, I don't think grief after this is really that great, the 0/1s are nice but not worth a card. But if you can get about 12 7 drop creatures in your deck that get cheap like the affinity creatures, this can be pretty cool since three cards is a lot.
4 [[thought monitor]]
4 [[sojourners companion]]
4 [[myr enforcer]]
4 [[frogmyr enforcer]]
Lace in some control mechanisms and or other items... What about Affinity then?
Man...if this was an artifact instead of an Enchantment it'd be craaaazy.
It works REALLY well with the affinity artifact creatures.
[[Myr Enforcer]] or [[Sojourner's Companion]] drawing 3 cards for free. Especially now with [[Frogmyr Enforcer]] adding to that list.
[[Thought Monitor]] being a net total of 5 cards? Hell yeah.
It's also a cast trigger, so it doesn't even matter if your opponent counters your creature, you're still drawing 3 cards.
The Eldrazi Spawns are mostly insignificant since they aren't artifact creatures BUT they CAN still help you cast your big affinity for artifact creatures all the same since you can just sacrifice them for mana immediately. Playing a [[Frogmite]] and getting +1 artifact for your affinity count AND effectively 2 [[lotus petal]] is pretty nice.
Of course I don't think the current Affinity decks can afford playing another 3 cmc spell that doesn't do anything aside eventually draw cards and doesn't actually benefit their artifact count. [[Simulacrum Synthesizer]] is just WAY WAY better and [[Nettlecyst]] is actually a threat.
That said MAYBE there's some deck that could make it work I suppose. The fact that we have the new [[Ugin's Labyrinth]] to REALLY encourage playing 7+ cmc colorless cards might make it more viable.
Maybe there's some colorless artifact affinity combo deck that could work with this. Enough "free" 7 drops that draw you 3 cards each and you could likely just combo off and draw your entire deck. You'd just need a win-con which could easily be [[grapeshot]] or such as long as you can pay the colored mana eventually. Granted you'd need some way to make sure you CAN combo off and this enchantment doesn't just eat a [[Leyline Binding]] or [[Boseiju, Who Endures]]
This card is bananas.
You can get it on the field Turn 1 in Legacy, Turn 2 in Modern. The drawback, of course, is that it doesn't cantrip on its own. I could see this being a player in a Eldrazi stompy deck.
Jebus, this card is busted in half. I am shocked this is an uncommon. Feels like it was buffed late in development to boost the eldrazi draft archetypes and went too far.
A consideration for the "dies to removal" crowd:
This triggers on cast. This has no ETB trigger. Unless some other permanent puts a triggered ability on the stack when it enters, the non-active player never receives priority before the active player casts their [[Myr Enforcer]], [[Sojourner's Companion]], or [[Thought Monitor]].
I'm trying this out in Maelstrom Wanderer commander deck. Beans might just be better but making spawns off a 5 or 6 drop into Maelstrom Wanderer sounds fun to me.
Does this find room in Modern Affinity? Thought monitor draw 5 sounds good to me. Only downside is that it's an enchantment and not an artifact.
Maybe Legacy 8 cast wants this when they can drop this turn 1?
Man this just lets you draw your whole deck in Affinty and you can play it on turn 2 with Ugin's Labrynth. Like there's absolutely a world where we play 4 Thought Monitor 4 Myr Enforcer 4 Sojourner's Companion 4 Frogmry Enforcer and draw the whole deck on turn 3 or 4 and play Thassa's Oracle or something or just swing the next turn with 4 Million Simulacrum Synthesizer guys. Frogmite even bails you out and gives you mana to cast Spingleaf Drums. Why did they design this card? In what universe is this card not a giant problem.
Subtlety your opponent's guy and make 2 mana. Evil card.
Subtlety your own guy responding to cast trigger to make two scions and then put your 7 cmc guy back on top to immediately draw it netting cards and mana ;-)
Even outside of the second ability this seems good as just a token generator in non green decks. Like I think this makes my [[brudiclad telchor engineer]] deck that has very few ways to even trigger the second ability (anything there are some).

I know non-standard sets don't do the whole story-telling thing. But seeing the Eldrazi again, and this card in particular, has some really fuckin big story implications. Will they continue the assault on Zendikar? Did Emrakul free herself from Innistrad's moon and go to Zendikar to free the other Titans? Will the Eldrazi leave Zendikar and hunt for another plane to devour?

As far as the art goes, it’s interesting that while Sarkhan opens it the “right” way, along the seams, the Eldrazi just crack it open down the middle.
To be fair, if my friends were trapped in a magic puzzle box I would probably try breaking it open too instead of solving it

Does Modern Affinity have room for four cards that neither have nor contribute to Affinity, and do nothing when you cast them?
Doing nothing on ETB is an upside because your opponent never receives priority between resolving the enchantment and putting your draw 3 trigger on the stack.
Yeah that's the question. I feel like having sixteen pseudo recalls is worth it, but I think it needs testing for sure.
Considering the upside, yeah I'd imagine they could make room.
Now consider the downside instead. Currently Affinity isnt doing too hot in modern, plenty of decks that can outrace/outcombo it. EDIT.: the exception being spells with prototype and adventure, the rules for prototype and adventure calls for the MV of the mode being cast. And for prototype, the permament MV is also the prototype one.
Wow, this card is KIND of cracked. Affinity have four 7 drop affinity creatures now. This is a slam dunk wow this is good.
[[Thought Monitor]] Then draw 5
Are they trying to make affinity nuts?
Up the Beans Syntethizer
Eldrazi Recall
Yeah... \[\[Emrakul's Influence\]\] was a little weak, but this might be a little too much...
Why the fuck is anyone unsealing Kozilek?
How is this uncommon, not upset but wow this could have easily been rare or even mythic.
This Yugioh esque retrain of Eldrazi is going pretty hard. Something tells me at one point the first ability was 4 or more and you could get both abilities if you did 7 or greater.
It was probably always "4, 5, or 6", since it appears to be a callback to \[\[Sarkhan's unsealing\]\].
Modern 2/10 So modern has a ton of ways to cast expensive creatures for cheap or free. Like, I don't think grief after this is really that great, the 0/1s are nice but not worth a card. But if you can get about 12 7 drop creatures in your deck that get cheap like the affinity creatures, this can be pretty cool since three cards is a lot.
4 [[thought monitor]] 4 [[sojourners companion]] 4 [[myr enforcer]] 4 [[frogmyr enforcer]] Lace in some control mechanisms and or other items... What about Affinity then?
It's beautiful 😍
Awesome card ! Glad its in BLUE. Very amazing art that is also disturbing.
Draw three makes this spicy.
Granted you'd need some way to make sure you CAN combo off and this enchantment doesn't just eat a [[Leyline Binding]] or [[Boseiju, Who Endures]]
oh, a new enchantment that makes spawn tokens. i was looking into making a pure devoid deck for fun
Dargo Thrasios go Brrrrrrrrrrr
WTF! You just spent “a lot” of mana. Draw some card too!
nulldrifter! I'm surprised these "CMC matters" eldrazi cards aren't tribal or care about colorless to fit with the devoid theme.
We even are getting extra \[\[Myr Enforcer\]\]s, but does that kind of deck want a 3-mana enchantment?
right into Imoti
Well Affinity is going to have fun
maelstrom wanderer approves
I wonder if we're also going to get some sort of Ulamog's Unsealing counterpart. Seems odd to mention one and not the other.
Man that's a juicy enchantment for any big creature deck, and even more so Eldrazi. At uncommon as well!
Oh man.. This is what I need for my [[Magus Lucea Kane]] deck (X tribal)
This card is insane for my Ur-Dragon deck!
Potential Runo sea monster tribal addition?
If only this was an artifact... would have made Metalwork Colossus go off!
Terrible EDH idea: this, every blue 7 drop, and [[Dream Halls]]
Could go rogue with an Allosaurus Rider & Scion deck!
THREE?
By the rate these are going Eldrazi decks might turn out to go wide with Cultists lol.
I guess they didn't learn their lesson from [[Up the Beanstalk]]
This is such a sick enchantment for not just Eldrazi but lots of creature decks. And it's UNCOMMON!?!
What this card is nuts. Nulldrifter draws five cards, solitude, subtlety both make dorks for free
This card is bananas. You can get it on the field Turn 1 in Legacy, Turn 2 in Modern. The drawback, of course, is that it doesn't cantrip on its own. I could see this being a player in a Eldrazi stompy deck.
So that's how Kozileck got out during the Battle for Zendikar-Oath of the Gatewatch arc
I can’t wait to build Morophon Eldrazi tribal.
its gonna be awesome in my adrix and nev deck
Was this tailor-made for my Rasputin Dreamweaver EDH deck??
I like this for like Simic Krakens, big creatures, etc.
Nulldrifter draw 5?
A bit broken in Dargo+partner commander decks?
Sorry for (maybe) a stupid question: will these devoid eldrazi cards be found in the eldrazi precon?
Jebus, this card is busted in half. I am shocked this is an uncommon. Feels like it was buffed late in development to boost the eldrazi draft archetypes and went too far.
A consideration for the "dies to removal" crowd: This triggers on cast. This has no ETB trigger. Unless some other permanent puts a triggered ability on the stack when it enters, the non-active player never receives priority before the active player casts their [[Myr Enforcer]], [[Sojourner's Companion]], or [[Thought Monitor]].
I want to put this in my [[Henzie]] deck lol. Shit seems pretty great
I'm trying this out in Maelstrom Wanderer commander deck.
God damn this would have gone stupid in my [[Imoti]] deck too bad I took it apart
"Holy shitamole" -me, upon reading the last line Side note, is this mono-u tron's reckoning?
Reminds me of the second Transformers movie where they get Megatron from the bottom of the trench.
My Intet, The Dreamer deck is going to love cheating in my battle-cruisers with this and Sarkhan's Unsealing on the board.
this goes crazy in hydra tribal, on lower x casts you're ramping more colorless to pay higher x casts, and then drawing 3 as well.
Even outside of the second ability this seems good as just a token generator in non green decks. Like I think this makes my [[brudiclad telchor engineer]] deck that has very few ways to even trigger the second ability (anything there are some).
Crab people. Crab people. Taste like crab. Talk like people.
Cant see this played in modern because it’s three mana and doesn’t replace itself right away. Again, seems more like a commander card
Why have we gone back to Spawn instead of Scions? Power level? Nostalgia?
[[Murktide Regent]]
I would slot this directly into my sea monsters deck
God damn crab people took our hedron
well this slots into my Imoti deck
immediately slapping this in my animar deck
Insane value, love this
Card transcription > Kozilek's Unsealking 2U > > Enchantment [uncommon] > > Devoid (This card has no color.) > > Whenever you cast a creature spell with mana value 4, 5, or 6, create two 0/1 colorless Eldrazi Spawn creature tokens with "Sacrifice this creature: Add C." > > Whenever you cast a creature spell with mana value 7 or greater, draw three cards. End transcription
Hmmm... splash blue for Eldrazi Tron? This card has some potential.
slap this shit into arixmethes so my ramp spell puts me up 4 mana instead
Thats escalated Quickly
I know non-standard sets don't do the whole story-telling thing. But seeing the Eldrazi again, and this card in particular, has some really fuckin big story implications. Will they continue the assault on Zendikar? Did Emrakul free herself from Innistrad's moon and go to Zendikar to free the other Titans? Will the Eldrazi leave Zendikar and hunt for another plane to devour?
Affinity's going to be so busted for the week that people don't respect it with sideboard cards that immediately win the game.
Sarkhans Unsealing strange Twin Brother.
