They got refenced in the sulfurous springs reprint back in dominaria united, but that little demon on the original is one of my favorite guys in mtg.
Bring the foglio's back and give have them do the art of him as a legendary creature.
The last set had Jolene literally uppercutting a guy out of his boots, leaving them suspended 5 feet in the air with smoke coming out.
[[jolene, plundering pugilist]]
That sounds a bit like Bugs Bunny shenanigans with less slapstick.

Absolutely insane art in the best way. Combining cartoon principles of motion and distortion with Magic's usual level of detail and rendering creates a very indulgent effect. It's like getting Leslie Nielsen to do comedy - the more serious-looking these characters are, the funnier it becomes when they behave in such a slapstick manner. I hope Mahy had as much fun making this as I am looking at it.
Ok, I looked and I didn't see anyone say it so I will if I must.
Am I the only one who thinks it looks like he's floating with roped up testicles? Lol sorry it had to be said.
Between this and the dinosaur pro wrestling, I wonder if this is a preview of a plane that's more cartoony? It seems weird to see more than one uncharacteristically goofy art in the same set, but it *is* a setting-neutral set, so it could be some sort of preview!
Horrendous artwork, but this feels really strong in limited. Combat trick that stays as a permanent buff, that also has maindeckable flier removal attached? Sign me up
I would rather have the odd card with goofy-ass art than 10,000 more cards that are like stock standard realistic poses that could have come out of Blender.
Like, I would rather there be something as divisive as [[faithless looting|STA]] in every set if it means there's more experimentation with art.
You have my axe bro.
Art is supposed to make you feel something. It’s supposed to make you talk about it, discuss it. That’s why this card has successful art. That’s why that faithless looting especially had successful art. It got a bunch of people that usually didn’t talk about art to talk about it. Whether or not they enjoyed it is immaterial. Art doesn’t care if you like it or not.
I don't like that faithless looting either. My point is that art is subjective and if you don't want every card looking exactly the same you gotta have some that look weird to some people.
Bad card art has to exist for good/fun card art to exist, and not accepting that means you just have mediocre card art x1000 instead.
But you're again extrapolating extremes that don't happen. The art of cards didn't all look the same before those you mentioned, I don't really have to choose between those extremes. I appreciate some consistency in tone in MTG, this to me steps that line. I'm okay with different art styles and even a little humor. I just think this is a tonal shift for what I think Magic is.
You should look at the card art from earlier sets. Early sets were *way* more experimental artwise than the modern ones; stuff like [[recycle]] were fairly common.
In my opinion MTG lost something when they moved away from more stylized artstyles.
>You should look at the card art from earlier sets. Early sets were way more experimental artwise than the modern ones; stuff like [[recycle]] were fairly common.
Not that common, people always give me that example. I also dislike that one, I'm not saying MTG was without goofiness before, but there's definitely been a tonal shift to more light hearted humor in the later sets. And not like Bloomburrow cutesy humor, this other kind.
>In my opinion MTG lost something when they moved away from more stylized artstyles.
Okay, but stylized doesn't have to be "so cartoony and goofy the eyes pop out and people are punched out of their boots". That's just one style that in my opinion doesn't work.
And that brings us back to "art is subjective". I like these things, you don't. Both of those opinions are fine (because they're opinions and there's very rarely such a thing as a factually wrong opinion)
Yes, I agree on that. But I'll add that every artform must set limits, the same way I wouldn't want certain types of humor in Lord of The Rings. If everything had a "just put a bit of everything for everyone" philosophy media would all feel the same.
Most cartoony art we have had in a non Un set in a long while.
The name and the art distracted me so much that I just assumed this was a fight spell. It is not.
Feels like it really should've been a fight spell specifically to fight creatures with Flying. Missed opportunity.
Honestly might've been a cool fight with upside they've been doing
Next step: Bring the Foglios back!
I’d be ecstatic
They got refenced in the sulfurous springs reprint back in dominaria united, but that little demon on the original is one of my favorite guys in mtg. Bring the foglio's back and give have them do the art of him as a legendary creature.
I bet this was leftover art from an unset, the mh sets have to be perfect for unused art
Slush art is the term for it. I’m not sure this fits with the theme of unfinity though
It looks more like it was from the set with all the asses. Smartass, dumbass, city of ass lol

Toonforce ought to be a thing in canon MTG. After all toonforce is sorta a kind of magic.
Tbf Gruff did pull out a piece of paper and say "nah you lose, it says so right here on this note I wrote"

Reminds me of that movie where Charlie Sheen shoots off a chicken like an arrow.

[[Loot, the Key to Everything]] is arguably more cartoonish than this
That's just a cute critter, this has eyes bulging out of their sockets and the inherent comedy of a druid flying on balloons punching a giant buzzard.
[[Auntie Blyte, Bad Influence]] does look a bit cartoony going by the shoulder advisors trope.

People collecting silly green kill spell art are eating well with this set.

Good bot
Gear 5 aaaaaa card
Luffy Tunes can not be contained.
Where is this, Bablovia?
Goofy enough to be a Foglio original.
Tinkaton hunting down Corviknight.
She fowl on my strike til I destroy target creature with flying
Is that the same dude fighting/punching animals in a bunch of other cards? Guy really doesn’t like animals.
He likes to beat his meat.

Large Marge?
Plummet in shambles.
I will literally do this to Atraxa. I will float up in a balloon and slap a bitch. It might be my last act on God's green Earth but I'm doing it.
Because of how amusing the art style looks, I’d say, “That’s a fowl!” 😂
Now I'm no optometrist, but I'm pretty sure eyeballs don't look or function like that.
This is a really funny card
New favorite art
I thought Signature Slam was going to have it locked up, but here we are. BAGOCK!
Might run it in a deck just so I can play looney toons sound clips
GREAT GOOGLY MOOGLY
Worth noting, this isn't perspective: that buzzard is the size of an elephant
Ok, I looked and I didn't see anyone say it so I will if I must. Am I the only one who thinks it looks like he's floating with roped up testicles? Lol sorry it had to be said.
Looney Tunes ass art.
'Tis clearly Looney Tunes *face* art.
This is art for an Unset
I honestly thought this was am uncard while scrolling.

Should have been Surrak.
Are we getting a Discworld crossover ! awesome, shouldve been a punch card
Finally, maindeckable plummet in limited

Does reomforce work at instant speed?
Yikes, every time I think about getting back into the game shit like this pops up and I remember why I left in the first place.
Should have been Falcon Punch
Testicle balloons are very distracting
When I did the last one we each got 3 packs in group of 8 And did a rd robin. That was able to keep prices low
I can’t wait to see the Family Guy, Peter vs Chicken alters
The more I look at this...
What a crap drawing, how come it is validated as MTG card that is blowing my mind!
This feels very out of place and I bet wotc is just slapping anything together like "who cares how stupid it is they will buy it anyway."
Horrendous artwork, but this feels really strong in limited. Combat trick that stays as a permanent buff, that also has maindeckable flier removal attached? Sign me up

The art from Mirage and on has been straight ass. I miss the original artists. We need more Phil’s and Kaja’s and less of whatever the hell this is.
