A foundation repair company. There are places who specialize in preventative and restorative procedures to prevent basement flooding. I would get with them before anything to make sure your foundation isn’t just crumbling. Then, on top of that you might have to hire a mason for the brick repair.
The general consensus in a group of people with experience should most definitely hold some weight. That’s why they asked. Don’t turn a sentence I wrote into a catch all blanket statement for every situation you can apply it to. It ain’t that complicated here.
well, the general consensus in some areas means there's some guy in the sky watching everything you do and will send you to a firey land if you don't give him money on sundays. If you still think the simple act of wide belief means it holds weight, be my guest.
Perhaps you should stop guessing and read my exact words. That should clarify the issue for you. Not interested in debate lords on Reddit, man. I get it, you’ve got something to prove. Go prove it to someone who cares.
I read your words and I'll stand by my statement that basement foundation companies are scams and never address the root problem. They just want to put a bandage on the problem and hide it. They're not qualified to be working on structural builds, they're not certified. That should tell you all you need to know.
Hire someone with the qualifications in the field you're having work done for. If the work isn't done right it can make a bad problem 10 times worse.
Ask me how I know. I just spent 25k with basement repair companies that ended up destroying my structure. I'll be fighting them in court for the next few years because of this.
If you want to just blindly accept the "general consensus" then be my guest. It's not my money on the line.
Ah I see. Your experience speaks for all. Again, I’m not into the debate lord bullshit. Too old to give a shit anymore. There’s probably a chance you and I would get along in real life. But internet arguments are pointless. It’s wasted energy on me.
Not all of them. I've dealt with reputable companies that do honest work. However, if the OP wants to go this route, they're more than welcome to. As always caveat emptor.
honest work? Do they have structural engineers that actually address the root cause of the problem or do they just put bandages on the problem and cross their fingers it holds long enough for the warranty to expire?
Call your neighbor, stand before the crack with a beer in hand. Then you exchange ideas for how it's gonna get repaired, take another beer then another one and next thing you know it's tomorrow morning and you have forgotten about the crack.
Ram Jack foundation repair. A steel pier or 7 will each go down to bedrock, essentially putting your house on steel posts, hidden by the soil and guaranteed for life...

You added greatly to this, thank you.
I’d say a general consensus is better than a standalone comment when someone is clearly looking for advice.

just because the majority agrees on something doesn't make it the best course of action. That logic is flawed.

FYI, basement foundation repair companies are a complete scam.. Avoid them at all costs and utilize a structural engineer and actual masons.

Call a mason. A free mason would be even better.
And cost a LOT less presumably.
Call Ghostbusters

If I’m seeing that right…I imagine the brick is just decorative? If there is any chance it’s structural I’d call a structural engineer.
Looks like a veneer
That’s the work I was searching for but my brain kept saying fascia.
I have a cousin named Mason.
Sucks for him. Tell Jar I said hi.
