Every public high school is required to have certain core classes like math or science or history, but then they get to decide what extracurricular or elective classes to also do based on their funding. This includes music, agricultural science, computer science, automotive technology, cosmetology, art, foreign languages, etc. Hell, my senior year, I got to take a video game design course.
I know in my high school, in order to graduate, you had to take a couple of government classes, that go over basic knowledge of how our state and federal legal systems work, basically things that everyone should know, but there was also a teacher who taught a more nuanced law class for students who wanted to build a foundation in law before even getting to law school
