I think the belief is that it chops up/ disrupts the oxygen molecules, making the air you breathe in useless and you die if lack of oxygen.

My myth is that stagnant air can kill you. So a fan is always running wherever I sleep. Temperature is not a factor.
I genuinely cannot fall asleep WITHOUT a fan or some kind of motor providing noise. Otherwise the silence will keep me up all night.
I discovered this about myself a few years ago. I have the fan on all year round. When it’s below freezing outside, the fan stays on but facing the wall.
