All 4. Especially if your other tires already have 30k miles on them they’ll be too worn and will cause strain on the drivetrain, happened to me a few months ago and had to buy a new set

Thanks for the reply! Mind expanding on "happened to me a few months ago" part?

My fault, I popped my front right tire a few months ago and had to replace all 4 tires. They have to be within 2mm or you need a whole new set and with yours having 30k I imagine you’ll need all 4 because the others will be worn down

hmg9194

No problem, thanks for the explanation! I figured maybe you had replaced just one and had problems shortly after 😅

jmvxc

Haha no worries, you’ll be alright if you swap the single tire for a little bit but I wouldn’t think of it as a permanent solution. Check out tire warranty when you’re buying might be worth considering

hmg9194

Well I just decided to call my closest dealership after I couldn't find anything in my manual and they said it is totally untrue 🤣 🤷🏻‍♂️

hmg9194

And I have the warranty, problem is my mechanic told me (from experience) they will not replace all 4 due to 1 tired being bad

Shiro_UwU7

if staggered no just replace both tires on the one effected axel with the bad tire.

hmg9194

Thanks for the reply! Suppose that would complicate tire rotations in the future 😅 and I don't think they are staggered, tire shop I mentioned quoted me on 4 of the same tire

MarkusRuleTheGym

Not Sure if MB is the Same but the guy at Audi tild my uncle about his sq5 that He should replace all 4 tires if the difference between both axles is greater than 2mm so New tires have 8mm and if the old tires are less than 6 they should be replaced aswell. But at least you should get two new tires. And i dont know about you but the other tires need to be replaced at one point anyway so you should get them all together.

hmg9194

I think my tires are rated to go to 50k+ miles so it would be a shame to have to buy all 4 new tires.. Thank you for the technical info including the MM and whatnot, gives me a basis to go off of.

dolsey01

Warranty may be for 50K but the reality is usually closer to the 30K you have on them now. You do have to other options, finding a used tire with the same tread depth, or having a new tire shaved to the same depth as your existing tires. I just went through this with my AWD Audi, I chose new tires.

Front to rear doesn't matter on the 4Matic system. Ex: you could have 8/32nds rear and 4/32nds front, that's ok. Side to side they want within 2/32nds. Mercedes use open differentials, this isn't like a Jeep Wrangler.

Fast-Good-7162

Spoke to a Mercedes engineer about this once. And they don’t actually give a recommendation on how to go about replacing the tires. They even said you could do just one tire at a time. But it would be more ideal to do both on the affected axle to avoid strain across the system
