Kid you not one Christmas my brothers fiancé wanted this silk robe from VS. I was like .50 away from free shipping. Without it they wanted to charge me close to 15 bucks to ship that damn robe. Some contractors I hired left behind about half a box of these bad boys, most useful loose screw to have in your arsenal. Next time a friend buys a house I’ll toss a couple of these into the gift. Useful to have on hand lol

My thoughts exactly. Last few times I did this I got some alcohol swabs because I use them a lot. Most people have a first aid kit that is missing consumables like iodine/alcohol pads, band aids, antibiotic ointment. Cheap and you'll be glad you have them when the time comes.

Those also expire! Lots of people don't realize that.

I find it useful to have some birthday/greeting cards on hand and those can be pretty cheap.

Oh it is. Because the one for 34.99 will be higher up the list than the one for 35.00. You are more likely to click on the first item. While it may not decide wether you buy it or not, your head will likely think it costs 34 dollar instead of 35. Untill you consciously think about the price, notice the .99 and round up to 35.

I also think that practice started at the 10 intervalls (20 became 19.99) because at first glance it looks to be waay less because your a full number lower on the first digit.

That sucks. I used to use that for most orders to get donations to a local bird sanctuary/rescue. There was a year- end report that showed they'd get hundreds extra through that program, and that was a big difference for them.

I usually try and think of something else that I actually need. Dish washing soap, salt, peppercorns, toilet paper, shower gel, toothpaste, floss etc. Cheap consumables that I know I'll need soon anyway.

I made an Amazon wish list of low value items, books my wife would like, and toys for the kids. Whenever I need a little extra to fill out shipping I browse my list and pop an item in to top it off. In the last few weeks my daughter got a bluey toy and my wife some dnd books and I saved on shipping, everyone is happy.

Thanks to my proximity to the local warehouse I can often get stuff the same day or very early the next day. Just the other day I ordered something around 9pm and it was on my doorstep as I was leaving for work the next morning.

Yeah I have two that are very close so I can get a lot of stuff fast. I am talking more about OP’s situation. Item listed as 2 day or overnight shipping. Go to purchase it and you need X amount of qualifying items. Don’t list the shit as something if it’s actually not it.

Reminds me of them shipping items/orders under 1kg with a very bad courier in Germany. They always said guaranteed delivery date, never came on time if at all. Used to order 1kg of flour with it to get it with DHL instead. Nowadays Amazon delivers with their own fleet, so it’s always on time, they have to learn how a doorbell works though. Also had a similar situation, ordered a birthday candle for a couple cents. It came from Italy. I believe shipping was more than I paid for that candle.

If I'm trying to order something I need in a hurry and need to make it qualify for next day shipping, I always add a household staple to the cart. Something I use and will need to buy anyway, I'm just buying it sooner than I otherwise would. Coffee or cat fountain filters, lotion, a pantry staple, my girl's favorite catnip toy if she's nearly out.

I've had like $5-10 stuck in Amazon limbo for a while because even if you intend to use free shipping, at checkout it wont let you choose to use your gift balance if there's not enough to pay for standard shipping (basically, if you bought a $40 gift card you would not be able to use it to pay for a $35 order).

I had this at another site. Added cheap pen. Pen stock was delayed so they delivered the item I wanted. Then the pen a few days later. So instead of giving me free delivery on an item a cent below the threshold they gave me free delivery twice.
