The Dodgers did this one time. They used technology from the beginning of tv and improved it every inning until they got to present day.

shadowszanddust

That sounds really cool

KGB4L

Literally had a thought a few minutes ago about it. Would be cool to broadcast every inning as a different decade. 80s 90s would slap. Do you have a link or any info what game it was?

kwattsfo

Probably mid-2000s. Around when HD was becoming normal.

ScottyBLaZe

I still remember the first time I saw HD at a Best Buy stoned out of my mind. It was incredible!

HumperMoe

When my family got our first HD TV I was so excited to watch live sports on it. The only thing on at that time though was tennis. My stepdad, brother, and I stared at the TV all excited screaming for my mom to get down stairs and check out the blades of grass on TV. How you can see them individually, it blew all of our minds. My mom still tells everyone that story, making fun of us. Still pretty amazing considering what we had just a few years earlier where snow and blurry pictures were the regular. The best way to describe it is, the picture quality is what people who refuse to wear glasses see.

stuntbikejake

There's a home Depot joke to make here... Long week, I don't got it, can someone help me out? Lolol

Highbad

There could be an in-stadium element as well. Have the screen simulate scoreboards of different eras, use decade-appropriate music (and organ, when you go early enough) and simulate the PA announcers' voices. Straw boater hat merch giveaway and retro food specials (but no suspending alcohol sales for the earliest innings, even if it's a National League field).

HudsonMelvale2910

I would absolutely love this.

-ll-ll-ll-ll-

That’s a LOT of work.

Silver-Rub-5059

Yes there’s no way they were physically changing stuff every inning. Smoke and mirrors. Would still love to see it.

Hugo_5t1gl1tz

Awesome

afairjudgment

There was a FOX Saturday afternoon game that did this as well maybe a decade or longer ago. It was one of the most enjoyable experiences watching a game on television I’ve ever had. I could be wrong, but I think the Cubs was one of the teams.

PittsburghGold

[Dodgers @ Cubs. This is pretty cool.](https://youtu.be/1bF-iG6QiCk?si=bq_CVt0eQ0kNYQ1D)

WorldsWorstTroll

I think these guys did it better than last night. They even changed the audio to match the time period.

GutterRider

Steve Lyons sighting!! And, no strike box. It’s refreshing.

schmokeabutt

I thought this was awesome. But after your comment, now I'm jealous they didn't do what you said.

ItsVoxBoi

Did they do the old school left of pitchers' mound camera?

nwostar

It was actually Fox in 2000 that did this during a Dodgers Cubs Saturday game of the week.

VeritasChristi

Source?

kwattsfo

My memory

SGRP_27

Holy shit this sounds awesome

DirtyRatLicker

that sounds awesome as shit

Fun-Cut-2641

Such good shit

Cfa7383

Wish they would’ve had the commentators play more into it instead of laughing the whole time

DirtyRatLicker

i think one of them tried doing a sort of “trans-atlantic” accent

JB_Market

Looks very cool. The 50th anniversary of the Mariners is coming up, I hope they do a 1977 broadcast for it.

BobBelcher2021

Same for the Blue Jays. Hope they sprinkle some snow on the field like the first game had!

kitteh619

Mets could do that for an 86 anniversary. Except it ain't snow

JB_Market

You'd probably have to wait till 2036 for the 50th, cause 2026 is going to be totally crazy with the world cup. It would get lost in the noise. Also Im extremely excited that Seattle is hosting some games. Going to take the whole month off.

CertainWish358

Hey some of those guys are doing much better these days… no need to push anyone towards a relapse!

Snowlandnts

Which nostril is it going through?

JB_Market

That would be awesome!

TacoMonkey69

Split screen did exist then. But they were incorrect in the implementation of the centerfield camera. The cubs actually were the first to use it, coyle was the first to use it on national tv.

DirtyRatLicker

I actually really like the splitscreen that was used. much better than switching from the centerfield camera to the dugout camera to show the pitcher and runner

Mr-Sunshine7577

Seriously?

I_read_all_wikipedia

They actually did the split screen how it looked back then too.

TacoMonkey69

Yes.

GanjaNinjaBoomin

REMARKABLE 😍

seanhalihan

It was good, but I’m glad it was only for a half inning.

500rockin

Agreed. For half an inning, it was perfect. Any longer would have been a bit much!

Bloody_Corndog

Yeah when they added the color back it made me appreciate it so much more lol

anonymousredditisnot

I know. My daughter and I were making dinner, and all of a sudden she said to me what happened to the game. I looked up and laughed. I was about to check if they had an alternate broadcast. I couldn't imagine setting up 3 old boxes in living room if mlb tv was a thing. LOL

TexasistheFuture

Great marketing move and I LOVED IT!!!

DaveP0953

Very, very cool. Brought back lots of memories.

Unique_Feed_2939

Are you 80?

DaveP0953

I'm 70. You 12?

Unique_Feed_2939

Do you don't have memories from 1954

InfamousCurve1109

So cool, I had to put a sweater on

tallslim1960

Awesome, but like I told my wife, it didn't look right in HD. They should have blurred it a bit.

rudmad

It would be cool to see older games with a modern scorebug. Formula 1 did this with the very first race

Madcap_95

I loved it. I wish the whole game was broadcast like that or at least more than just half an inning.

No_Arugula_6548

I thought my tv broke 🤣🤣

KungFuSlanda

Idk man. I think the MLB should loosen its restrictions about sharing baseball clips on social media if they want to expand the game and get people excited mid-season. Pump cool merch. Buy uniforms that don't show genitalia This seems gimmicky. Baseball is still fun. People are getting into cricket and the WNBA for goodness sake... Up the quality of the broadcasters. Let the players have some fun, get those managers bellybumping umps, and you'll see a revenue spike An old timey insta filter isn't gonna do it

wikipuff

What's wrong with the WNBA or Cricket?

Asleep-Ask-4004

they’re not mlb

Weekly-Batman

Fox never misses out on a gimmick.

seattlesportsguy

Should have done the entire game this way

dust_storm_2

Or at least a separate feed...

WAStateofMine

I liked it! Wish the inning had lasted a little longer!

denney7230

Hated it

x-BrettBrown

Very cool the grayscale was a bit silly but the wide shots were absolutely beautiful. I hope the modern broadcasts use some of these camera angles in the future

Routine_Butterfly102

Had to run into the other room to show the wife how cool it was

GanacheIcy_

its really cool when they throw back some good classics for us

Mr_Saxobeat94

Nice job by Fox all around.

Fit_Crab7672

Reminds me of how I would try to manipulate the rabbit ears to pick up an out of town station so I could watch a Giants home game that was blacked out and I watch through the screen snow and spotty audio.....and love it.

Chaminade64

I kept thinking they should have shrank the image down to the size of a 19” TV screen…….if they’re gonna remind you of the past then give us the real deal. I’m guessing 19 inches was a banging TV back in the 50s.

dwwdwwdww

it was fun/interesting.. glad they didn't do it for the whole game...

Zigglyjiggly

Loved it

lscottman2

i’m old enough to remember there were no instant replays, you had to wait for the news to watch the film of close plays.

RememberingTiger1

I loved the count graphics. Reminded me of watching The NBC Game of the Week!

dust_storm_2

Moar, please! | Honestly they should do this at least once a year in every sport for every team. There is SO MUCH potential for the turn back the clock games, including with advertising and broadcasters (even using the sound effects for the ball hitting the bat). I could honestly see it being a thing where attendees even dressed up to the nines.

08_West

I watched the first few innings from a bar (I had to ask that they change the station to the game, as usual) but I missed this! Kinda bummed.

LikesAView

I liked it

GrumpyOldCrow

Willie Mays

Effelljay

The entire broadcast was exceptional

wickedjonny1

Freakin awesome.

TulsaWhoDats

Stupid

DataNo7004

It was different, recall the Sports Channel & early MLB network showing games/World Series from ‘50’s.

MissionStock2545

Classic

fiendzone

It's cool but I would rather watch the regular broadcast. It's like the Nickolodeon NFL games.

Mr3Jays

I loved this.

Big_Copy7982

Cringe

Chalfu

It was a treat. It seemed well thought out and authentic enough to be appreciated by this fan. It was not over the top and they didnt seem to be trying to hard that it came off cheesy and cheap. I'm sure alot of people have picked it apart and injected their ideas of perfection, but from intention to implementation I think they and MLB did a great job.

HaxanWriter

I think it’s stupid. Which is typically Fox in a nutshell.

KuriusCpl

It was dumb. The whole effort of MLB trying to absorb the Negro Leagues as their own is disgusting.

sungo8

Honestly I can’t wrap my head around why baseball doesn’t do more fun stuff like this. Lean into the history and devote a few primetime games every month to a different gimmick? The Rickwood game turned into such a great celebration of old stories and history. The first Field of Dreams game was magical! I know it’s easy to make fun of, but break up the monotony of a 162 game season and do a few special things.

KingSlimeTTT

I wish there was a way to watch the whole thing like this

yaboyChick

I didn’t turn the game on until this inning and was so confused lol

Mykrroft

I really thought the whole production was swell, Batiste, Mays tributes, the venue, I even rewound to make my kids watch the 50s style broadcast.

DinkleMutz

This would be a cool feature for MLB The Show 25.

NitramTrebla

The negro league storyline and any other vintage moments sort of have that vibe.

MetropolisLavaworld

I prefer the camera angles to the current ones.

FlobiusHole

Not as good as Reggie being real.

Jamal12687

Absolutely loved it!

Flashy-Paint-7182

"OVERRATED! OVERRATED"

DirtyRatLicker

I would love to watch a whole game like this

MyBuddyBossk

I absolutely loved it

Revolutionary_Bad876

I thought the idea was super cool, but this… this sucked, at least without any sort of display that is, they are lucky nothing interesting happened that inning because it would have been very easy to lose track of. Looks wise though I like how they made the game feel, it’s just my opinion about the rest of it however. Either way I’m super glad they gave this a shot and even though my Giants lost, it was a game to remember!

beachbear4life

I loved it! Reminds of when I was a kid and I would watch with my Dad and Grandfather. They should do more like that! There is too much data analytics being shoved at us, this keeps the game as it should be. BTY there should be NO auto umpire!

wikipuff

This was brilliant. Wish more broadcasts did this.

byebyebrain

now can they get the Commentators to shut up and we can watch the game with just the crowd noise as well..PLEASE

MiltonRobert

Hated it.

DistributionParty506

I just couldn't stand it. Honestly almost turned the game off.

Flashy-Paint-7182

That is the exact point I did change the channel

Doingo-boingo

Corny

Flashy-Paint-7182

"OVERRATED! OVERRATED"

Piratefan4life

Loved the simplicity

OlGusnCuss

Very cool.

Tiny-Try8890

It was awesome, too bad the half inning wasn't too exciting

in_time_in_tune

well done 👏🏻

SignificantBenefit74

Pretty cool

BitterStatus9

Goofy gimmick. Why is everyone splooging over this.
