Later 3SGEs have more power than earlier ones.

Upward_sloping_penis

Wikipedia has a breakdown of when euro models had revisions to the power numbers. You’re looking at a 1990 vs 1996. It changed.

I don't know the NA mr2 well enough to say for sure but they probably increased the HP in the later years. Same thing happened with the turbos. Early models were 200-220 HP depending on the market. The later revisions were 238 HP. It's also possible they were made for different markets with different emissions standards.

Spwd

I believe the rev 3 turbo's were 245bhp as standard.

StrangeCitizen

You're probably right. I was just going off the top of my head.

Champion_Kind_Sports

241hp. 245PS.

BallerMR2andISguy

The NAs got a power bump in 93.

For european market general rule: 90-91 MR2 mk2 rev1 with 3SGE gen 2 without catalytic converter 160 hp 92-93 MR2 mk2 rev2 with 3SGE gen 2 with catalytic converter 156 hp 94-95 MR2 mk2 rev3 with 3SGE gen 3 with catalytic converter and no EGR 175 hp 96-97 MR2 mk2 rev4 with 3SGE gen 3 with catalytic converter and EGR 170 hp 98 MR2 mk2 rev5 with 3SGE gen 3 with catalytic converter and EGR 170 hp note: there is some exception for exemple germany got catalytic converter since 90

Spend the extra and get a later model 10.1993 onwards with the 3rd gen 3SGE if you are staying with a non turbo car. A much more polished car and they don't run big end bearings like the 2nd gen 3SGE loves to do, especially if you want to take it to the track.

If you buy the 168hp and remove the racing stripes and stickers, it will definitely lighter and go will be faster.
