I know this is a subpar musical but: Big Bright Beautiful World - Shrek The Musical The number seems like a pointless opening number, but makes much more sense in the context of his feelings and really gets me emotionally invested in the characters Now for a brilliant musical: Masquerade - Phantom Of The Opera The ending is just heartbreaking, and the reprise of the song manages to recontextualise it and realise it's about Phantom as opposed to earlier when it was taken at face value as a party scene. Also, that music box gives me chills.
