No one will ever see this, but I turned 16 in 2004. "Song 2," by Blur was the VERY FIRST song I listened by myself in the car when I got my license.
& then I upgraded to Gorillaz. Damon is fucking unreal & here I am 21 years later, adoring his songs & collaborations.
"No squealing, remember that it's ALL IN YOUR HEAD 💫🤘."
Christmas of ‘05 I got some money and promptly bought Demon Days on cd to play through my little personal cd player, running through the tape adapter in my ‘92 Oldsmobile, which was my first car.
It’s a finnish song, but nevermind that. The lyrics are about being lost in life and the title translates roughly to ”The manuals are missing”. If you like the sound of a crackling guitar, check it out.
Jukka Nousiainen - Manuaalit Hukassa
"You Took the Words Right Outta My Mouth" by Meat Loaf.
Every time I hear it, I'm back in the summer of '07, fresh from high school graduation. It's summer and it's hot and humid as fuck, and all of my old friends are still in town. I'm driving my newly acquired car to spend the night at a friend's house one last time with all of us together on the same small town before we leave for college. The smell of burnt sugar cane in the air, warm nights, and the greasy orange/pink of halogen lights is where my mind takes me. I'm 18 again and I'm full of possibility and potential, and the world is ahead of me... But all I want to do is be with my newly acquired friends for a few days more before life takes us in different directions.
What a fuckin' song, man...RIP Meat Loaf and Jim Steinman
"I Won't Forget You" by Poison. Not because I was a teenager in the 80s but because I was a teenager who, having been born in the 80s, listened to Poison with my first boyfriend and then after he dumped me and that song really just sums it all up, haha.
