If u mean that poll where modric was rated as the worst signing of the season. It was bombared with madrid and Barca fans voting.
Modric was worst and Alex song was second.
Nah Madrid fans really thought he was a bust that wasn’t just a poll
I’m a Spurs supporter and I was constantly arguing how he’s a lot better than the Madridistas say
Heck [this](https://www.reddit.com/r/nba/comments/17lklza/chuck_on_katgobert_that_was_one_of_the_stupidest/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3) is what people were saying a mere 2 months ago...
The wilder thing is... he probably should already have 4.
The year Draymond won, Rudy's defensive metrics were a decent amount better than Draymond's, but Draymond was kind of hosed the year before when they gave Kawhi the award over Draymond who had a better year, and they made it up to Draymond.
He could already have 5 honestly, Draymond’s and Smart’s easily could’ve been his. Crazy to think we could’ve had a possible 6x DPOY and people still bash him.
He is a 7’1 rim protector and the ENTIRE Jazz defense was him
He would have to close out on a shooter, defend the drive, defend the rim, switch out, defend the shooter, defend the drive and then defend the kickout, all in one possession basically every possession
His offense is trash but let’s not pretend that he’s bad. There’s only a couple players in all of basketball history that could handle the defensive pressure he has.
His offense isn’t trash, it’s just limited. But the things he can do as a screener, vertical threat, and (very) low post player are still valuable to an offense.
People don't recognize how important Rudy is on offense because of his limitations. Rudy may not be an offensive star but he is really important on offense, plus he averaged about 16 ppg on nearly 70% shooting for a couple of seasons.
He is arguably the best screen setter in the NBA. Not only does he set great screens but he uses great angles, etc. on his screens as well.
He is one of the best offensive rebounders in the NBA and defenders can't leave him when his teammates attack the rim because he is a rebounding threat and lob threat.
He draws help defenders away from the corners when running at the rim after screens (and draws double teams away from the ball). Between rim runs and perimeter screens his teammates get so many open threes.
He also has one of the best FG% in NBA history and is 4th in the NBA in foul drawn rate this season (needs to improve his free throw shooting this season).
Ad provides better perimeter coverage. Gobert provides better rim protection.
If ad and gobert were on the same team.... Holy smokes. Best defense ever.
> Rudy should start wearing goggles with the number of shots to the face he's taking
Though I try to hide it, it's clear. [I wear goggles when you are not near](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WEQ0l_m3Xm0&ab_channel=MacyGrayVEVO).
It reminded me of last weekend with Joe Rogan saying “bad look for Leon” after he won every round in a title fight because Colby Covington pinned him in the final minute, lol
“Biden is clearly in such cognitive decline, it’s worrying. Did you see what he said about how we captured all the airports in the Revolutionary War?”
“Oh it was Trump that said that? Well, he just made an oopsie”
They are very bubbly and “fun” but biased to the point they are no longer fun to listen to at times, and Kayte is just annoying. Not because she is a girl but because her takes are just bad, in hindsight she caters to the very casual fan(which is her job) but it gets repetitive and she rarely has anything interesting to say
DPOY yeah. Unfortunately with All NBA going positionless I can't see him getting in there but you never know. Long way to go in the season and Wolves are goooood
What? Raad the comment I replied to. "Rudy definitely has a bigger impact on the Wolves than AD does on the Lakers"
I was pointing out total impact. I didn't say a damn thing about DPOY
Kawhi Leonard won a dpoy because his team sucked without him. And he missed a ton of games and didn't deserve that award. Just adding to the conversation.
Can't really win MVP just with defensive impact. Who was the last defensive specialist in MVP conversations? Maybe Dwight Howard in 2011 but he also put up 23PPG on 60% from the field and he still didn't win (and that's also 13 years ago and nearly a different era).
With the numbers some players are putting up these days you gotta do something really special to get into MVP conversations.
Why though?? His defence alone is equivalent to a 30 PPG scorer in your team I'd say. You haven't seen how he impacts the game just by being there. Hope you understand in our next matchup against Nuggets
Hope I understand? Lol.
You sound like you only started watching gobert after he's on your team.
I have gobert as the best regular season defender of this generation. He's still not an MVP candidate. He's not meaningfully better than he was with the jazz and the field didn't get weaker either. Doesn't matter how good you are as a defender, you have to be at least KG/Duncan level offensively to get MVP.
This isn't me underrating gobert. This is you overrating him because you haven't seen a player like him.
Jokic is historic offensively.
Embiid is averaging 33 ppg and is a top 10 level defender
Anthony Davis is averaging 25 and is a top 2 defender
there’s no insult in being behind those 3, Rudy is the best defensive center in the league
[Adjusted net rating](https://dunksandthrees.com/), SRS, etc. all paint the Celtics as the best team in the league.
All of that is much more indicative of how good a team is compared to a single regular season game
It’s a wild argument to make I must admit… that the games matter less than the statistics about the games.
To be clear, I’m not sure I can argue that the Timberwolves are better off of just one game, but I don’t think I’d confidently make the counter argument given the only game they played each other the Timberwolves won.
The Wolves also lost to the Hawks, who are clearly much worse than them.
The point is that we know that a single game doesn’t determine who’s better, that doesn’t change just because the 2 teams are similar in record. Actual team measures like adjusted net rating and SRS show the Celtics being the clear best team in the league.
You can't argue that the Lakers have 2 MVP caliber players when they are not even a top 8 team in the West.
On the other hand, you guys have DLo. So you might need 3 MVP candidates to even that out.
You’re not wrong. Rudy’s a better defender overall this year. AD has been great too, but Gobert doesn’t have the same offensive level as those 3, so they are better overall.
Still happy with Gobert. He’s made everyone better on defense.
Rudy has been my fav Ayer to watch in the last 5 years or so.
He does so many little things that go unnoticed by the boxscore or the media etc.
Just incredibly impactful on BOTH ends.
If Naz Reid Reid started alongside towns we would have a better offense and a way worse team. He can't create anything on his own, he isn't a good passer, he is a bad free throw shooter, he can't post up, he has stones for hand. When teams are not running him in the p&r that even limits him further. I watch like 85 percent of the wolves games a year I love Rudy this year. He is also not a good offensive player.
Except he is. Jazz had the top offense with Gobert setting high screens and scoring at the highest efficiency of all time. There is more to offense than hooping/isos
Arguably having the most impactful season on the number one team. Sadly offense is pimped in this era and defense put in the corner. Rudy turning that around 💪🐺🗼
Timberwolves winning championship as number one defensive team would be awesome (and make KG hard)
Does it matter? Come playoff time he will get cooked by guards. He can’t guard anything out of the paint. If he comes across a team which plays on the perimeter this dude is finished
Did you watch the first quarter? If there was anyone closer than 2 yards of him while he was "gathering" the ball refs would call a foul.
2 quick foul on 3 different centers in less than 10 mins that's a record for sure.
Haven’t seen the opinion on a trade from 1st year to 2nd year switch like this since Luka Modric
4 championships incoming 🤞
As a Tottenham and Timberwolves fan, I hope for the same outcomes for the Rudy trade
Surprise you are not support San antonio topspurs hehe
If u mean that poll where modric was rated as the worst signing of the season. It was bombared with madrid and Barca fans voting. Modric was worst and Alex song was second.
Nah Madrid fans really thought he was a bust that wasn’t just a poll I’m a Spurs supporter and I was constantly arguing how he’s a lot better than the Madridistas say
Song was actually terrible at Barca tho. We absolutely rinsed them
I haven't seen a tackle like that since Joe montana
I said Joe Mantegna
Heck [this](https://www.reddit.com/r/nba/comments/17lklza/chuck_on_katgobert_that_was_one_of_the_stupidest/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3) is what people were saying a mere 2 months ago...
This guy definitely winning DPOY
4x DPOY is wild… And morons still will say he sucks because he can’t guard 3 players on every possession
The wilder thing is... he probably should already have 4. The year Draymond won, Rudy's defensive metrics were a decent amount better than Draymond's, but Draymond was kind of hosed the year before when they gave Kawhi the award over Draymond who had a better year, and they made it up to Draymond.
To think Draymond resents Rudy's ass for winning dpoy over him when he wasn't even close each time Rudy won.
That's kind of the funniest part
Lol your username is gold
I've heard Draymond talk about defense a lot. I think the problem he has with Rudy is he doesn't really consider blocks and steals to be defense.
He should have also won Smart's award.
Smart's felt more like they wanted to give it to a Boston guy, but Timelord got hurt and didn't qualify the amount of games he needed.
Yeah kawhi stole his dpoy but he somehow blames Rudy for not winning more.
He could already have 5 honestly, Draymond’s and Smart’s easily could’ve been his. Crazy to think we could’ve had a possible 6x DPOY and people still bash him.
But sometimes he does which is crazy.
He is a 7’1 rim protector and the ENTIRE Jazz defense was him He would have to close out on a shooter, defend the drive, defend the rim, switch out, defend the shooter, defend the drive and then defend the kickout, all in one possession basically every possession His offense is trash but let’s not pretend that he’s bad. Big coming from a Lakers fan. AD is a worthy candidate too
Ad provides better perimeter coverage. Gobert provides better rim protection. If ad and gobert were on the same team.... Holy smokes. Best defense ever.

hater alert
Just being a lakers fan doesn’t mean anything haha
They watch AD more than they watch Gobert and still said he’s for sure DPOY. Fuck yeah that means something.
Yea, we're way past the DPOY discussion. Now can he actually be in the MVP race?
Jjjj9
Love me some big French men
Je t'aime aussi, citoyen aléatoire
étoile du nord
Is that a baguette in your pocket?
Nah. I'm just real happy to see you
Rudy should start wearing goggles with the number of shots to the face he's taking
He needs a construction helmet
> Rudy should start wearing goggles with the number of shots to the face he's taking Though I try to hide it, it's clear. [I wear goggles when you are not near](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WEQ0l_m3Xm0&ab_channel=MacyGrayVEVO).
I can’t believe the kings announcers actually said Sabonis was winning the battle
Legit could not believe my ears
It reminded me of last weekend with Joe Rogan saying “bad look for Leon” after he won every round in a title fight because Colby Covington pinned him in the final minute, lol
Reminds me of Joe Rogan saying almost anything
*"OHHH HE'S HURT"* Fighter was simply picking their nose
"OOOOOH HE'S HURT" Fighter was picking his opponents nose. Then wiping it on them for extra insult.
“Biden is clearly in such cognitive decline, it’s worrying. Did you see what he said about how we captured all the airports in the Revolutionary War?” “Oh it was Trump that said that? Well, he just made an oopsie”
Fuck joe rogan, sorry just hadda say it
one elbow in the face to a poster dunk and they're on their knees
He had that dunk.
The one where the refs just decided to ignore the brutal elbow to face…?
Yeah that one.
If it's anything like when he played for the jazz, Rudy getting elbowed in the face is clearly a foul on him.
He did that to Nurkic twice last time we played too. Didn't get called then either.
IM GLAD WE SAYING THIS BC I HATEEEEEEE SABONIS!! HA T E
And while we’re on the hate train of players never getting called for blatant fouls, can we talk about Embiid for a second??
Oh uhm, no.
I appreciate you
You're correct. We've already talked about it. It's now on the fans of who you play next to talk about that mean man hurting them from the FT line.
Curb stomper embiid
Nice to be on the right side of this for a change lol
Haha fair enough
The plus minus difference was around a 60 point difference between them when they said it too. Absolutely hilarious.
They even interviewed Matt Barnes about how was Sabonis winning that matchup and was like um Rudy has 19 and 16 right now what are you talking about
you can’t add plus minus like that lol but yeah advantage rudy regardless
It accentuates the point nicely.
Wait.... They did?
I laughed out loud when Sabonis hit a 3 and did a celly in the 3rd quarter after Gobert was dicking the entire Kings team down.
I don’t know how Kyle Draper and Kayte both still have jobs 🥴
I think we all know why.
Our announcers are honestly AWFUL. I wouldn’t worry about it
I enjoy them
They are very bubbly and “fun” but biased to the point they are no longer fun to listen to at times, and Kayte is just annoying. Not because she is a girl but because her takes are just bad, in hindsight she caters to the very casual fan(which is her job) but it gets repetitive and she rarely has anything interesting to say
Exactly I dont care shes a woman shes just corny as hell
Me too. This team really misses monk.
The guy who was 0- in the 4th?
There was a battle?
Our announcers are some of the dumbest in the league.
Rudy "The Worst Trade In History" Gobert
Kings commentator said that Sabonis was winning the matchup while the Wolves were up 20 Not sure what game she was watching
I was cringing as a Kings fan when she said that
nah she a draymond fan, thinks games are won by elbows to people's heads.
Sabonis had a couple nice fakes on Rudy that got him some points but defensively it was no contest
Imagine how much we could have won by if he didn't get outplayed by Sabonis.
Legendary glaze job by the commentators. Would have you believe Rudy was getting dismantled
Right, wolves were letting sabonis go 1 on 1 all night to not give up open 3s, of course he got a few buckets vs gobert.
Masterclass
BIG RU GO BUURRRRR
Unanimous DPOY
It will now
Has that ever happened?
Ben Wallace 2002 116/120 (96.7%) Dwight Howard 2011 114/120 (95.0%) Rudy Gobert 2018 89/101 (88.1%) Rudy Gobert 2021 84/100 (84.0%) Joakim Noah 2014 100/125 (80.0%) Those are the closest to unanimous.
Such a fun game. I love watching the kings play. GG kings fans, I never felt safe even when we had a 20 point lead
Reminds me of the mid-2000's era. I hope these teams battle for years. I love it.
Ru Go Burt
DPOY yeah. Unfortunately with All NBA going positionless I can't see him getting in there but you never know. Long way to go in the season and Wolves are goooood
Top 5 MVP candidate. Playing like prime Wallace
[удалено]
Wait what? Rudy definitely has a bigger impact on the Wolves than AD does on the Lakers
IDK man the Lakers crated without AD. Lost to the damn Spurs
So you want to give him the Kawhi Leonard dpoy award. Rudy is anchoring the number one defense in the league.
What? Raad the comment I replied to. "Rudy definitely has a bigger impact on the Wolves than AD does on the Lakers" I was pointing out total impact. I didn't say a damn thing about DPOY
Kawhi Leonard won a dpoy because his team sucked without him. And he missed a ton of games and didn't deserve that award. Just adding to the conversation.
Alright alright, I getcha

Yeah he has help, and wins more accordingly. And it’s not like AD doesn’t have lebron, debatably the most impactful player ever…
No

Why is a player handicapped for having other defenders?
Gobert isn’t “handicapped” it’s just very important context regarding the teams situation.
What's the context? play on a worse team to get more credit?
For real, when you’re a bad team, you’re accused of empty stats and when you’re a good team, you’re accused of having too much help.
Gobert is the best defender of the three you listed he is 100% one of the best of his generation and belongs in the same tier as those guys.
No
Cook
Cooked*
Not a top 3 option for scoring? Obviously haven't been watching the Timberwolves play. Or even look at tonight's bkx score. Or title of the post.
Why should PPG matter *at all*? It's a defensive award. Edit: my mistake I thought this thread was about DPOY not MVP.
Most impactful player on number 1 team, should at least be in MVP conversations.
Not when you have two 0.500 teams with 2 MVP CANDIDATES EACH!!
No. Gobert didn't deserve to be in mvp conversations when the jazz were the number 1 team in 20-21 and doesn't deserve it now.
Why though?? His defence alone is equivalent to a 30 PPG scorer in your team I'd say. You haven't seen how he impacts the game just by being there. Hope you understand in our next matchup against Nuggets

That’s definitely true. Gobert has still been insane this season tho, 100% the most impactful player on the Wolves
Wild to think the most impactful player on the best team in the NBA is a tier below the 3 “best” players at his position….
Jokic is historic offensively. Embiid is averaging 33 ppg and is a top 10 level defender Anthony Davis is averaging 25 and is a top 2 defender there’s no insult in being behind those 3, Rudy is the best defensive center in the league
But it’s true. Also the Celtics are the best team in the league not the Wolves
Yes they proved that when they lost to the Wolves.
Both 22-6 and wolves beat Celtics for the tiebreaker
[Adjusted net rating](https://dunksandthrees.com/), SRS, etc. all paint the Celtics as the best team in the league. All of that is much more indicative of how good a team is compared to a single regular season game

Just talking about standing my man not trying to go that deep
I don’t think you’re wrong and you’re making good points to back it up. I just hope we get to find out in a 7 game series this year :)
Wolves beat Celtics.
So did the hornets A single regular season game doesn’t determine who’s better
Doesn’t make your case stronger.
The Wolves also lost to the Hawks, who are clearly much worse than them. Nahhh he is not incredibly impactful on offense. He is by far the best defensive player in the league but he is at best a neutral offensive player.
He just went 10-13 and had 6 offensive rebounds on the “other end”. Boy what are you smoking?
Nice job cherry picking his best offensive game in two years and pretending like it's the norm.
Doesn't he have like the highest % of all time? Then there are the screens and lob threat opening space.
If Naz Reid Reid started alongside towns we would have a better offense and a way worse team. He can't create anything on his own, he isn't a good passer, he is a bad free throw shooter, he can't post up, he has stones for hand. MVP
MVP Campaign marches on
Arguably having the most impactful season on the number one team. Sadly offense is pimped in this era and defense put in the corner. Rudy turning that around 💪🐺🗼 Timberwolves winning championship as number one defensive team would be awesome (and make KG hard)
Then he'll just have to settle for FMVP <3
Against the Joe Ingles Magic hopefully. Jazz will get theirs one day
Folks, it’s time to stop calling this team spooky and to start calling them scary.
He should be higher in the MVP conversation, but (unfortunately) he will only get DPOY as a form of consolation.
Come playoffs and he will be back to his utah self.
Does it matter? Come playoff time he will get cooked by guards. He can’t guard anything out of the paint. If he comes across a team which plays on the perimeter this dude is finished
How you calling him dpoy when my man locked your whole team down while getting through your offense like it was Swiss cheese?
Whistle
Did you watch the first quarter? If there was anyone closer than 2 yards of him while he was "gathering" the ball refs would call a foul. 2 quick foul on 3 different centers in less than 10 mins that's a record for sure.
Please notice me Mr. Embiid!
The Stifle Tower strikes again.
