This is the endpoint for the old Telstra Velocity network. You will likely find you are in an Opticomm serviced area now if the velocity has been transitioned.
Check your address here: [https://www.opticomm.com.au/residents/](https://www.opticomm.com.au/residents/)
If it comes up, you can still get fttp, its just through Opticomm instead of NBN, but still pretty good plans and pricing options available, and you have lots of choices of companies that service your house still.
I could be wrong but I don't think so, I have one of these boxes, it is a NTD as marked (network terminal device). It doesn't work as a router/modem and you'll need a separate device for that connected by an ethernet cable to the NTD to get a wireless connection. Your NTD should be in place near a fibre optic connection which would be somewhere in your home
The NTD is the modem. Presents Ethernet a plain router can use e.g. Nest/Eero that do not include a modem. Can even use a non-wireless router unless you want a router with Wi-Fi.
People have answered what is is but I'm not entirely sure how you've got ahold of it on its own.
Normally, they are wall mounted with the fibre running into the box from the back.
I can't see this in your case, so just hoping the fibre is still intact somewhere.
The device in the picture was in a draw, with no power cable in sight lol. The fibre cable seems to be fine and I've plugged that in but I need to wait for the power cable now
Most likely this property falls under Telstra Velocity (fibre and tv) network. Not NBN.
Velocity was sold to Opticomm. If that is the case, then all you need to buy is a router, since Opticomm uses FTTP.
Thank you.
So the device in the picture isn't nbn related but instead it's a velocity box? And if I connect that to my router and configure my router properly it should work?
I forgot to tell you that Telstra Velocity is still transitioning into Opticomm. So there's a chance that your property is still under the Telstra Velocity network.
Only one way to confirm is to go to Telstra website and enter your address.
If Velocity is still active, then you need to call 1800 008 994. If already changed to Opticomm, then yes you can connect to any Opticomm ISP.
Was that device at the premises? If so provided you plug the power and fibre line back in and there's no issues with either, and you have a service provisioned there, then yes it should work.
Yes it was. Although there was no power cable, previous tenants must have nicked it lmao. Will have to contact the ISP and get a new one. But then it should work! Awesome, thanks

Thanks mate, so if I have this box and buy a modem/router I should be able to get internet to the house, that's all I need right?
You don't need a modem/router for that, you just need a router.
Thanks for bearing with me. So what's the point of the box in the picture?
That is the modem, I'm just saying that you don't need a modem/router combo for fibre. All that you need is a router.

Most likely for telstras version called Velocity.
I believe they're opticomm now. So you might have luck contacting them.

Thanks mate, appreciate it, will look into that further

Not uncommon. Happens all with time with NBN to
The clue is in the big Telstra logo on it
