the mechanism for liberalisms success is that it favors feedback over control
autocracies have control, due to their hierarchies they're insensitive to the wants and wishes of much of their populations which generally give them first mover advantage, whether this is in a military sense, a policy stance, or a cultural one. the downsides are widely discussed on this sub so I won't belabor the point further other than to say that no amount of control allows you to make perfect decisions because you always have imperfect information and by being an autocracy you have less information on your own people than you might otherwise need, which in turn drives you to devote resources inward counterproductively.
democracies on the other hand, because they maximize feedback, create iterative loops that allow them to emergently deal with threats or problems given time and mass. this is the magic of democracy, the realization that you do not need to craft a bespoke response to each issue. when democracies fail, it's because they're hit with a black swan event of such severity that it overwhelms the feedback system or the iterative loops get hacked by bad incentives and the system decoheres.
to annihilate liberalism you need to annihilate america and america is too large to be destroyed by a black swan event. hence the latter approach. hack the feedback loops so that they return bad data and the system never adapts the way its supposed to. human psychology is fixed by our biology plus some ability to learn. this is a relatively fixed target, since no human will prioritize psychological defense against political attack other than political nerds. in contrast, political attack technology scales with media technology and exploits basic social instincts in people and is deployable en masse.
so the basic plan is to exploit the basic fact that no one puts politics high on their hierarchy of needs and flood the space with fake news and exploit any and all social divisions, while discrediting anyone that attempts to use media to counter your attacks. decohere liberalism until it devolves into smaller-order entities which can be defeated in detail or rendered impotent by pressure from autocracies. it's not impossible, liberalism is not a natural state of humanity, tribalism is

When I was a kid, whenever the Olympics would come around there would always be these features about how this or that top athlete was a genetic freak. I vividly remember that about Michael Phelps, about how his proportions, hand sizes, ankle angles, etc. all make him a better swimmer than the average human. I assume a lot of this is true for a lot of top athletes (e.g. the world's best sprinters have better fast-twitch muscles).
But people mostly talk about sports that a ton of people do in some variety: swimming, running, etc. What about contests that very few people every compete in, that are generally limited to rich people with access (like many winter sports)?
How many people are out there with the absolute perfect physical characteristics for ski jump, but who will never touch a pair of skis in their life?
To add to that how many people chose the profession that they would be great at? or even identify them in the first place. Also just because you're good at something doesn't mean you like doing that or willing to make that investment and effort required to reach that level.

the mechanism for liberalisms success is that it favors feedback over control autocracies have control, due to their hierarchies they're insensitive to the wants and wishes of much of their populations which generally give them first mover advantage, whether this is in a military sense, a policy stance, or a cultural one. the downsides are widely discussed on this sub so I won't belabor the point further other than to say that no amount of control allows you to make perfect decisions because you always have imperfect information and by being an autocracy you have less information on your own people than you might otherwise need, which in turn drives you to devote resources inward counterproductively. democracies on the other hand, because they maximize feedback, create iterative loops that allow them to emergently deal with threats or problems given time and mass. this is the magic of democracy, the realization that you do not need to craft a bespoke response to each issue. when democracies fail, it's because they're hit with a black swan event of such severity that it overwhelms the feedback system or the iterative loops get hacked by bad incentives and the system decoheres. to annihilate liberalism you need to annihilate america and america is too large to be destroyed by a black swan event. hence the latter approach. hack the feedback loops so that they return bad data and the system never adapts the way its supposed to. human psychology is fixed by our biology plus some ability to learn. this is a relatively fixed target, since no human will prioritize psychological defense against political attack other than political nerds. in contrast, political attack technology scales with media technology and exploits basic social instincts in people and is deployable en masse. so the basic plan is to exploit the basic fact that no one puts politics high on their hierarchy of needs and flood the space with fake news and exploit any and all social divisions, while discrediting anyone that attempts to use media to counter your attacks. decohere liberalism until it devolves into smaller-order entities which can be defeated in detail or rendered impotent by pressure from autocracies. it's not impossible, liberalism is not a natural state of humanity, tribalism is

When I was a kid, whenever the Olympics would come around there would always be these features about how this or that top athlete was a genetic freak. I vividly remember that about Michael Phelps, about how his proportions, hand sizes, ankle angles, etc. all make him a better swimmer than the average human. I assume a lot of this is true for a lot of top athletes (e.g. the world's best sprinters have better fast-twitch muscles). But people mostly talk about sports that a ton of people do in some variety: swimming, running, etc. What about contests that very few people every compete in, that are generally limited to rich people with access (like many winter sports)? How many people are out there with the absolute perfect physical characteristics for ski jump, but who will never touch a pair of skis in their life?
To add to that how many people chose the profession that they would be great at? or even identify them in the first place. Also just because you're good at something doesn't mean you like doing that or willing to make that investment and effort required to reach that level.
