You kinda can't. You gotta make a whole new file for desmume. I use the universal randomizer so i'll explain using that. So, say your randomizing a platinum game. You should have the game saved still, as the UR doesn't eat up files (at least for me). Reput in your fresh platinum game in (not the already randomized one) and put all your options in. Save, Put the new randomized file in Desmume, and it should work!! Hope this helps!!

mandy_miss

How are you saving the new randomized file in Desmume? That's where i get blocked. Also, do you mean using the "save settings" option? Or the "(randomize) save" on the right? I havent been successful in altering my current game either way

FandomDolphinDev

You save the file using the Universal Randomizer! It should make a randomized file, THEN you put it in desmume! (Hopefully that’s what you meant?)

FandomDolphinDev

Be warned though that if you’re trying to re-randomize a file that already has a save, that won’t randomize again, you can only make a new randomized save that has no data currently in it.

mandy_miss

I really appreciate your response! Especially on an old comment of yours. Thank you for clarifying. I take it i can’t alter randomization settings on a current save file that im playing?

FandomDolphinDev

No problem! And yeah, you can’t alter an already randomized save file, you can only make a whole new one. The Pokémon are pre-randomized when you do it the first time so it’s impossible to re-randomize on a save you’ve already randomized

mandy_miss

It makes sense, sadly. I just wanted my pokemon to be able to learn any TM/HM and for my pupitar to evolve at level 40 :’( And i only wanted it after the 7th badge…lol

just rerandomize the rom and give it the same name as the old one. this way you have a newly randomized rom but you can use the old save

genius tysm

Lol, it’s not going to be much help after three years, but I just did this. I randomized the ROM, then put the file in the same folder as the original, removed the original, and changed the name to match. So far it looks like it’s working, but I only made very minor tweaks.
