Yes, in this case it's pretty clear that the commentor was being facetious, but in the age where a lot of people genuinely believe a lot of stupid bullshit and are all too willing to share their stupidity, it doesn't hurt to clarify. It's not really about the downvotes but more about not getting your inbox pinged every 30 seconds when the next person calls you out, even though we're all saying the same thing.
I will, however, say that what is cringe is bothering to write up an entire diatribe about how much you personally dislike the /s.
