Here is the miserable story on rentals in Perth at the moment:
It'll be tough. The last few years we have been building less and less dwellings while record numbers of people have migrated here. There's nowhere left to live.
Your best bet would be asking your school/uni if they have student accommodation or can help you in any way find someplace for you to stay.
If not, a real estate agency won't let to you without you having seen the property. So you would have to stay short term in a hotel/air BNB or the like while you find a place which could end up taking quite a while and costing quite a bit. So be prepared for that.
How many more students can Aus bear?
Just wait till you try to find a place, after you have used up all available funds at the Airbnb.

Out of 1716 people, most are looking/pleading for space/slots/spots, rather than providing.
And private rentals agencies.
You will be paying a lot, if you pass the vetting process for rentals, that is.
Best of luck.
The unis will accept your money to study here, and the Aus govt will accept your visa fees, but none of them will help you find accommodation, or housing.
Take a look at google maps, pick a ruler and go 25cm, that is about 5/10km in real life, or Belmont Forum/High Wyecombe, to the sea, and check out the 2 major websites above, avoid Perth CBD, North Perth, East Perh, West Perth, and check out rental rates per week.
Write down on a piece of paper the suburb names, so that when its close to move time, you can see any openings on the websites I mention above.
Then put your details with as many real estate agents as you can, ...
Best of luck.
Lots of international students come that time too, so as others have said, you will be fighting for availability, either with other students, or those who are looking, but working here too.
Not to mention, you will also have to/want to/need to find suitable work, with a limit of 48 hrs a fortnight.
I live in an arse end suburb of Perth. Yesterday I thought the neighbours were having a party, cars up and down the street.
Nope. Rental viewing for a $600 a week dump.
Are you asking about moving to Perth? This is a *very* common question. You can find previous threads about this [HERE.](https://www.reddit.com/r/perth/search/?q=moving%20to%20Perth&restrict_sr=1) Your question is probably answered already in there.

Is Vet school Murdoch University? I would make sure you have accommodation secured before you move here, but finding a share house with other students is not as difficult as everyone here is making it out to be.
Yeah welcome mate - lots of nice places - even by the river or by the ocean. Rentals are tight so try and sort before you come - have a look at freo, Coogee, Scarborough South Perth. To be honest there’s loads of nice places and it’s a really friendly city.
The 0.4% vacancy rate represents the houses that are above the weekly median rental price of $650. My advice would be to get two or three housemates to share a larger house for around $700 to $1000 per week. It would be reasonably affordable to split the cost among three people. While the housing crisis is real don’t lose hope or let negativity get you down. It’s 0.4% vacancy rate not 0% so there’s still a chance to find accommodation.
Adelaide's vacancy rate is caused by government/private inaction though.

Its population grew by 14% *over ten years* (2011-2021). And its not like Brisbane and Perth, where we saw relative surges in activity over short periods, Adelaide has been plopping along pretty consistently at that rate.

Studying at Murdoch? You may be able to find space for a tent in Beeliar Regional Park.
What's the vacancy like there at the moment?
Has it become the new Camp Herrison?
lol this sub might as well be called "perth is full, Don't even think about it"
Unironically - Fuck off! We are full! We have literally become what we hate.
It’s like we knew it intuitively before we understood it logically.

Dude, you are so fucked for accommodation. Seriously reconsider
Good luck. Perth is full. There is nowhere to live!!

Mate, do yourself a favour and scroll the perth reddit and weep at how many people are becoming homeless. I hope you enjoy sleeping in a car
I’d stay in Canada, (I been twice for months on each trip)
It’s becoming quite the shit show here now. I’m savings my coins to move back to Perth eventually. I’d say OP is doing a solid by leaving.
Vancouver has a rental vacancy rate of 0.8%. Perth has a rental vacancy rate of 0.4%.
By Vet School, I assume you mean Murdoch University. There are plenty of cosy spots to camp in the bush nearby, and some of the toilets have showers.

I also made some pretty dumb decisions in my 20s but - hoo boy! You got me beat. This one's a corker!
dont move until you secure housing

Just don't bother, you're not special and you're just causing us extra pain
this is a troll

Pick another city, like Adelaide as unless you have guaranteed accommodation lined up, you'll be living in a tent.
Also full here. Same vacancy rate - 0.6% - as Perth. Equal lowest in the country.

That doesn’t change the vacancy rate for our Canadian mate, though.
True, just it could be solved in about 5 seconds by *anybody* doing *anything.*
Brisbane will be much warmer in the tent, just pitch it on high ground.
