I will always remember Marchan as the Catcher of that wild 7-run comeback against the Nats back in 2021. Ended with a Bamboo walk-off Grand Slam. Nola had a great, clutch AB that led to a walk. I think we had like 25 guys make a plate appearance.
Probably the greatest regular season Phils game I’ve ever witnessed (and it was only 8 innings!)
I can’t wait to trade for Tommy Pham, have the daycare douse him in water, and then have Pham turn around and beat them with a bat because he is a fucking psycho headcase loser and keep him the fuck away from this team.
I'll probably be wrong but I believe in Marchan. In the little bit we've seen him, although he has no power he seems to put on a good swing and he looked solid defensively. Gotta have belief our development staff has got him ready for this lets go.
“ “Hey, I’m being a bitch right now,” Stubbs told him.
“You were being a bitch,” Long added.
“That’s exactly what was happening,” Stubbs said. “And now I’m just not being a bitch.”
Lmao. For what it’s worth Stubbs is slashing 273/360/318 over the last month. Only 25 PA because the dude never plays, but you’d take that. Just get on base and turn the lineup over.
Nick Pivetta was traded from the Phillies to the Red Sox on August 21, 2020. The Phillies received Brandon Workman, a burned-up closer who was not very good, and the mostly useless and completely forgettable reliever Heath Hembree.
Current Phillies who were teammates with Pivetta are: Aaron Nola, Ranger Suarez, Zack Wheeler, Bryce Harper, JT Realmuto, and Alec Bohm.
Rafael Marchan did appear on the Phillies in 2020, but his call-up was after Pivetta had been traded. However they would have been teammates during spring training. Additional spring training teammates include Bryson Stott and Johan Rojas.
edit: Matt Strahm would have been teammates with Pivetta in Boston.

The Mistake you are making here is continuing to try applying logic to the Nick CastaLeenos situation.
Club house likes him, management likes him, and his contract is 20 million per year. Whether he deserves to be an every day player or Not he is gonna keep playing. Unfortunately.
At least we can say he is a competent glove in Right field. Thats our silver lining.
There's also a large belief in sunken cost theory in that He can't possibly be as bad as he's been the whole season. You've rode with it for 2 full months and even if he has a bad stat line at the end of 2024 the 'rest' of 2024 can have him justify his position.
Some of that is probably a true. I don't think Castellanos will be as bad as he was April/May for the entire season... but that also doesn't mean the performance he gives you justifies a daily corner OF slot... Also it ignores his defense which despite the announcers pushing the 'error-less streak', Castellanos is an absolute pylon and allows for more hits/runs to be scored than pretty much any other regular corner OF in baseball.
Pretty excited to see Marchan in the line up. Conservatively I believe he will go 6-8 with 2hrs, 3 doubles, and a single. Defensively he will throw 3 Sox runners out. Won’t be his best night of the season but a good start.
Wow Mr. Pessimism over here.
Personally I'm more optimistic; I think he'll go 0-3 with 2 K's and 1 GIDP, while defensively he'll have 2 errors and give up 3 steals. You know, the type of game that starts HOF careers.

I work with a Barves fan. We were talking Phillies before a teleconference yesterday and he was just like you guys are just too good this year. I resisted the urge to yell "Fuck the Barves!!!!1!!" Because I'm professional.
Okay, because I like my paycheck. But still. I resisted!
Still young. Im not giving up on him yet.
Plus for the first couple innings yesterday Rojas and Harper looked like the only people on defense who weren’t drunk lol
No reason to give up on him, I just get frustrated by people being adamant that he must remain on the team and in a starting role, when his spot in the lineup is one of the most obvious and simplest places to improve the team. Not firing him into the sun, but I would be happy to fire him into Lehigh valley for the rest of the year, or even just the bench if they prefer (which I think would be less than optimal but whatever).
I've been as down on his hitting as anyone, but he's not even all that bad relative to other center fielders. Outfield production on the whole is in the toilet this year.
And that’s fine, but outfield is still the very obvious place to improve this team, and Rojas is the easiest and most obvious guy to be displaced, platooned, etc when we do. I think everybody knows casty has been bad, but he’s just not going to be displaced over Rojas.
I mean; unless ya have a Great hitter with solid defense in Center field I cant rationalize sending him down. But if they traded for a .280+ Bat who had competent Center field defense sure. Im just not gonna send him down for just anyone cus when Rojas is Cooking on Defense its hard to find a better CF.
Im fine with letting him do his thing platooning in Center if we get a .280+ Bat in Left field . But we gotta do something out there
u/Deckard_Macready, I flew through Season One yesterday and just finished “Pop” in my rewatch. “Fishes” is up next and I’m pausing for a long smoke break to listen to *Pleased To Meet Me* and emotionally prepare myself.
Oh wow you got busy yesterday! I finished up to “Pasta” on this rewatch. Will be picking it back up tomorrow night. I wish you well through your rewatch of “Fishes”. I’m curious how a rewatch of that episode will go for me. Usually the second time around emotional scenes get me even worse. So I will also need to prepare myself.
Yup, even heavier that time around. And for how much I picked up when it aired, there are *so* many more layers than you realize at first viewing. It’s fucking brilliant and so’s every person’s performance in it.
I am even more excited to watch now. Thinking about it now I think I am picking up on a lot more on this rewatch and now the idea of getting even more from “Fishes” is very exciting. I am ready for Jamie Lee Curtis to blow my mind and hurt my heart all over again.
He followed that start up with 6 starts where he had a 6.75 ERA, 7.13 FIP, 1.63 WHIP, and allowed an opposing slash of .289/.362/.562 before he was mercifully yanked from the rotation and never started a game for us again.
I asked ChatGPT to write a story about Nick Pivetta getting demolished by the Phillies:
Nick Pivetta stood on the mound at Citizens Bank Park, the home of the Philadelphia Phillies. It was a warm summer evening, the kind of night where anything seemed possible in baseball. But for Pivetta, this game would turn into a nightmare.
As the starting pitcher for the opposing team, Pivetta had faced his former teammates before, but tonight felt different. The Phillies had been struggling lately, but tonight, they seemed poised for a breakout.
From the first inning, Pivetta struggled to find his rhythm. His fastball, once his go-to pitch, lacked its usual zip, and his breaking balls hung in the strike zone like ripe fruit waiting to be crushed. The Phillies hitters, smelling blood, pounced on every mistake.
Bryce Harper stepped into the batter's box with a grin on his face. He had faced Pivetta many times in practice, and he knew exactly what to expect. With a smooth swing, Harper sent Pivetta's fastball deep into the stands for a towering home run.
The crowd erupted into cheers, but there was no celebration in the visitor's dugout. Pivetta could feel the weight of each run given up, each mistake magnified under the stadium lights.
As the innings passed, Pivetta's struggles only worsened. Kyle Schwarber smashed a double off the outfield wall. Bryson Stott slapped a single up the middle. Alec Bohm drove in run after run with timely hits. Each time Pivetta thought he might find his groove, the Phillies hitters reminded him of his shortcomings.
By the time the manager emerged from the dugout to take the ball from Pivetta, the damage was done. The Phillies had put up double-digit runs, and Pivetta could only watch in silence as his former teammates celebrated another victory.
Walking off the mound, Pivetta couldn't shake the feeling of disappointment. He had hoped for redemption, a chance to prove himself against the team that had traded him away. Instead, he had been humbled, reminded of just how cruel the game of baseball could be.
As he sat in the locker room, staring at the floor, Pivetta knew that this game would haunt him for a long time. But deep down, he also knew that it was just one game, one bad night in a long season. And tomorrow, he would have another chance to take the mound and rewrite the story.
It is why I started on this sub. I was so sick I couldn't even get out of bed and was loosing a lot of weight. So I would just be on this sub and watch Phillies.
But it changed my mind. I originally was accepted to medical school and was going to go, but then I realized I am tired of hospitals so I wanted to work in a lab.
Yeah. I can’t imagine working in a Hospital every day
But i am A stereotypical male who hates medical environments because it reminds me of my own mortality

I want to see him do it again tonight, for old times sake.
It happens to all of us.
Today, I completely misread a chromatogram. Even though I have been watching and working with this for 20 months, today I thought I saw something different and it completely changed what I thought for like 20 minutes.
Now I know why you didn't think JT Realmuto was declining/going to decline! You don't watch the games! /s
Yes he is a lefty. Although I agree if we get rid of Soto we need another lefty.
Can’t wait for the people that will melt down if Pivetta does well even though he is having an excellent year on the mound.
I’m going to get grief but I really harbor no ill will with Pivetta, man just needed a change of scenery
Honestly, I feel bad for /u/inthedrink
I have watched the Phillies face a few of my friends, and it is so hard rooting for one player to do well against your favorite team, especially when they are a pitcher.
Watching Rhys being interviewed on MLB Central right now. Love that dude, showing respect to us fans and our team, and just a well spoken solid dude. 🥲
OK so this might get some hate, but it should be absolutely nothing.
Casty has shown that when he starts thinking in the batter's box he is a worse player. Topper has mentioned this, so has Casty himself. He should just be "feeling it".
But as Topper said, he tries to get Castellanos to think about everything when they are in the cages and doing batting practice. He is hoping that Castellanos will start learning these things, and it will be second nature when he is actually in a game.
That is what I think makes Topper a good manager. He understands what different players need.
This is why I at the very least understand why they never sit him when he's cold. He's absolutely not the type of player that will benefit from a day off the regroup. It sucks, but unless you are totally giving up on him you have to keep playing him.
Just read the Gelb article, seems like JT has been playing with this tear for most of the year. Dude is such a tough SOB, getting into that squat hundreds of times a day with that injury has to be brutal, but our guy was still logging a ton of innings and putting up pretty good numbers
I’m really glad they’re getting it taken care of. With the lead the Phillies have built up and so much baseball season left there’s no reason he should have to suffer through that anymore.
One time my foot fell asleep while I was sitting down and I had to go get another beer from the fridge. As uncomfortable as it was I got the job done.
I’d like to think I got that JT in me
Does this look accurate for who will be pitching this/next week:
Wheeler TUES (Win @ Red Sox)
Sanchez WEDS (Tonight @ Red Sox)
Nola THURS (@ Red Sox)
Suarez FRI (@ Orioles)
Walker SAT (@ Orioles)
Wheeler SUN (@ Orioles)
Sanchez MON (Padres)
Nola TUES (Padres)
I'm going on Sunday and Tuesday, just curious if Wheels and Nola line up the way I think they do.
Can’t beat a pitchers’ duel like that one. Fernandomania genuinely changed the sport, and both of those starting staffs were ridiculous in the mid-80s.
I saw Clemens’ return to Fenway in the 2001 ALDS vs Pedro. People back home didn’t believe me when I told them the Red Sox vs. Yankees atmosphere was like being at an Eagles-Cowboys game — fights every other inning, non-stop chants for 4 hours, it was insane.
Glad we got to enjoy similar energy and passion for baseball at CBP during multiple Octobers over the past 17 years.
I think maybe referring to jerry west passing away. If the name is unfamiliar youll def know him if you saw his picture

I posted the article on the main page, but I still find this quote funny.
> So in contrast to the beefy Realmuto, the Phillies now have the smallest catching tandem in the game. Marchán is listed at 5-foot-9 and 170 pounds, Stubbs at 5-foot-10, 170. And having seen Stubbs up close, he must’ve been wearing ice skates and toting around about $100 in nickels when he got measured.
I am just going to say it.
I have no strong feelings towards Nick Pivetta one way or the other. I just know what he has been in Boston was exactly what the Phillies hoped he would be. And when he was with us articles were literally written about how it didn't make sense why his ERA was so high when his peripherals were so much better.
There are so many reasons to dislike this guy. Maybe his peripherals showed he coulda shoulda been better but until last year he’s fucking sucked and he acted like he’s a star. Here’s one example from our friend /u/videogangsta. I wonder if he remembers posting this lol

His glove is amazing. His fielding though... Is terrible. But if he can somehow get to a ball you know he will catch it.
Yeah, competent. #He’s no Johan Rojas :)
I wouldn't even say competent which is my main point.
There's also a large belief in sunken cost theory in that He can't possibly be as bad as he's been the whole season. You've rode with it for 2 full months and even if he has a bad stat line at the end of 2024 the 'rest' of 2024 can have him justify his position. Some of that is probably a true. In the last 3 series. https://preview.redd.it/bl2r83deo66d1.jpeg?width=500&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=59b4a6f2995fe8f703ece6f9869fa2217e163b16
Where’s Chase Anderson?
Hey! You can find some of my own comments talking about Diekman. I loved the guy especially since I had bowel issues and he had some as well.
You definitely strike me as a guy who has bowel issues Big Bowel Issues Aura ![gif](giphy|bkKvvzE9PEcTK)
Yeah. I can’t imagine working in a Hospital every day But i am A stereotypical male who hates medical environments because it reminds me of my own mortality ![gif](giphy|sDjIG2QtbXKta)
Nick Pivetta is still with the Red Sox? Nick being with the Phillies was dark times. Him and Vinny Velo. Lol
So are the Yankees good?
no
Go Phils 🫡
[473 feet](https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/sporty-videos?playId=b0874709-a127-4ad0-9211-dde95409f4ef) I want to see him do it again tonight, for old times sake.

Hoffman isn't a lefty though? Strahm and Alvarado?
Oh I wasn't even paying attention to that and ignored it thinking he would say Alvarado. You ok /u/BatJew_Official?
Clearly not lmao. I'm not sure how I completely forgot Avy and Strahm were lefties, and then completely misread our BBRef page. I swear I'm sober lmao
It happens to all of us. Today, I completely misread a chromatogram. Even though I have been watching and working with this for 20 months, today I thought I saw something different and it completely changed what I thought for like 20 minutes.
Somehow I completely misread the bbref page. Alvarado and Strahm are both lefties, and Hoffman is not
> If we replace him we need a lefty because the only other lefty in the pen would be Hoffman Matt Strahm, "Am I joke to you?"
Wait is Strahm a lefty? I swear I just looked over BBRef and didn't see the little * next to his name
Now I know why you didn't think JT Realmuto was declining/going to decline! You don't watch the games! /s Yes he is a lefty. Although I agree if we get rid of Soto we need another lefty.
I'd still like the trade if we can swing it, but I'm deleting the comment and hoping we can all forget about it
Can’t wait for the people that will melt down if Pivetta does well even though he is having an excellent year on the mound. I’m going to get grief but I really harbor no ill will with Pivetta, man just needed a change of scenery
How many accounts has u/inthedrink taken over today?
Famous Nick Pivetta fanboy u/inthedrink
Honestly, I feel bad for /u/inthedrink I have watched the Phillies face a few of my friends, and it is so hard rooting for one player to do well against your favorite team, especially when they are a pitcher.
We’re either going to smash Pivetta or he’s gonna go 6-7 scoreless. No in between.
I prefer the former
Watching Rhys being interviewed on MLB Central right now. Love that dude, showing respect to us fans and our team, and just a well spoken solid dude. 🥲
Describe Casty's plan in the batter's box in one word.
Plan?
Improvisation
Attack
They said to only say one word
https://i.redd.it/onkipdum766d1.gif
Non-discriminatory
Improvised
vague
Golfing!
There's a plan?
Oops
Lunge
Hope - or using a pool term, poke-n-hope, maybe he's more of a hope-to-poke guy
Swing
Pray
Guess
Just read the Gelb article, seems like JT has been playing with this tear for most of the year. Dude is such a tough SOB, getting into that squat hundreds of times a day with that injury has to be brutal, but our guy was still logging a ton of innings and putting up pretty good numbers
I’m really glad they’re getting it taken care of. With the lead the Phillies have built up and so much baseball season left there’s no reason he should have to suffer through that anymore.
Yeah the lead is huge. Name of the game is get to the fall as healthy as possible now
[удалено]
It was an injury from earlier this season
I didn’t interpret it as carrying over from last season but something that came up early this year. I could be wrong though
One time my foot fell asleep while I was sitting down and I had to go get another beer from the fridge. As uncomfortable as it was I got the job done. I’d like to think I got that JT in me
Your wDAWG is sky high
Got that dawg in you 🐶
Does this look accurate for who will be pitching this/next week: Wheeler TUES (Win @ Red Sox) Sanchez WEDS (Tonight @ Red Sox) Nola THURS (@ Red Sox) Suarez FRI (@ Orioles) Walker SAT (@ Orioles) Wheeler SUN (@ Orioles) Sanchez MON (Padres) Nola TUES (Padres) I'm going on Sunday and Tuesday, just curious if Wheels and Nola line up the way I think they do.
Wheeler vs. Burnes on Sunday should be awesome. Enjoy!
Reminds me of a Mets-Dodgers game I attended in 1985. The starting pitchers were Gooden and Fernando. Great shit.
As of now that looks correct.
Does that mean Wednesday the day game is Ranger day???

He can;t bat. We don't need another \~600 ops guy in the lineup.
Biggio sucks, they can have him.

I love the part of my day when I play “is there a snake in the box”
Schrodinger's snake
Every single time.
With the news that was just announced, here’s hoping Castellanos goes off
wahts the news
What news? Shkreli and the Wu-Tang album?
I think maybe referring to jerry west passing away. If the name is unfamiliar youll def know him if you saw his picture https://preview.redd.it/61uf7a4g866d1.jpeg?width=156&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c5e4b9b33a64db4fcba3f8a7b2b44969deda1fd3
Live look at the Red Sox clubhouse: ![gif](giphy|8rDoSanobPatCZqPg8|downsized)
Goes off to another team, hopefully. Guy is seriously terrible. Should’ve dumped this turd in London.
Sir, you may want to reevaluate your flair
Apparently I should to but I didn’t add it nor do I currently see it on the app I’m using
They better light Nick Pivetta up, cause everyone else did when he was with the Phils.
We’re chasing Pivetta out of this game.
I genuinely laughed out loud
Just cause he small dont mean he cant play
it was hilarious seeing him next to Alvarado postgame.
I wonder if he remembers posting this lol https://www.reddit.com/r/phillies/comments/cfewuo/nick_pivetta_passiveaggressively_bitches_about/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=mweb3x&utm_name=mweb3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button Edit: used this link in haste lol go to my next post below with the quote
Probably wasn't that bad of a statement in hindsight but after 4 years of watching him give up 2 HR/9 I had enough and needed to let it out.
