From @PhilliesNotes this is crazy and there is apparently no exaggeration nor bias about June Schwarbs
> Kyle Schwarber has 60 career HR in June in 172 G. That is the fastest to 60 HR in June in MLB history (previous: Mike Piazza, 60 HR in 191 G).
> The only player in MLB history to reach 60 HR in fewer games than Schwarber in June, in any month, was Juan Gonzalez in August (167 G).

Ignoring the 1st game line all 4 the single game records for AL/NL are 6 BB.
Bagwell 16inning
Harper 13 inning.
[Yep. I looked it up.](https://stathead.com/baseball/player-batting-game-finder.cgi?request=1&order_by=b_bb&timeframe=seasons&ccomp%5B1%5D=gt&cval%5B1%5D=5&cstat%5B1%5D=b_bb)
It was when everyone was saying the cubs "broke" Harper by learning to walk him. I fucking hated that when it was all over /r/baseball.
Schwarbs should get one for this:
> Kyle Schwarber has 60 career HR in June in 172 G. That is the fastest to 60 HR in June in MLB history (previous: Mike Piazza, 60 HR in 191 G).
> The only player in MLB history to reach 60 HR in fewer games than Schwarber in June, in any month, was Juan Gonzalez in August (167 G).
With Devin Williams out, the owner of the best changeup in baseball is up for debate
It’s crazy to think that Cris might be up there. I’m sure someone on a computer can look on FG to see numbers when he throws it. I’m gonna guess they’re elite.

Trying be a “glass half full” guy here by pointing this out:
•2008: Celtics win NBA Finals, Phillies win World Series
•2024: Celtics win NBA Finals, Phillies win World Series perhaps?!?
What did Dusty do wrong? Getting a player thrown out by 0.1 inches, after two great throws, is exactly the type of risk a third base coach should be making.
I know the runner was slow. But he was only out by 0.1 inches, which required two perfect throws.
Dusty was already accounting for Bohm’s speed, so that’s not relevant. He correctly gambled that the transfer + relay + tag wouldn’t be perfect.
It was the correct decision. They don’t always work.
Well I guess we'll agree to disagree but there is so reason to even risk that when all the next batter has to do is hit a ball to the outfield. Especially with zero speed in bohm
The odds of scoring with 1 out and a man in third base is only 66% chance. It’s not a given that he’d score if was held at third, especially with the bottom of the lineup coming up
Maybe Dusty reads this sub, saw the billion comments from fans who are “really concerned about the offense”, and was just trying to avoid getting dragged in case the bottom of the lineup failed?
And you think those odds are lower than the odds of Brandon marsh striking out? Because that's what you're betting to happen in this situation (I'll give you a hint: Marsh does not strike out vs RHO more than 33% of the time).
Others described the error. I’ll add that it ended up leading to an unearned run: Machado ended up tagging from 2nd to 3rd on a deep fly to CF, and then scored on an infield grounder.
Machado hit a spinning single by Turner into CF, Marsh bobbled it and Machado went to second. Not sure if the ball was still spinning when it got to Marsh or if he just misplayed it
Looked like a little bit of both. He reached down for it and pulled up his glove and ball wasn’t in there. Probably because it was spinning, he misread it and it caused him to misplay it. But he didn’t have his eyes on it when he reached down with his glove so it was a bit of that too.
I know it’s a small sample size but can we please give Marchan a majority of the at bats while JT is out.
I’m not even saying he’s a better hitter than stubs, but we have a comfortable enough lead in the division that we should see if he’s the future answer at backup.
This is why I'm happy to give him some run. His defense is stellar. But let's not pretend that 4-4 tonight is anything to get excited about lol. I think the combined exit velo of those four hits was equal to one of the Schwarbombs tonight (not actually, but you get the point).
Either way, feels like we have above-replacement level guys at so many positions in the depth of this club for the first time in decades. It's fun to be one of the best run clubs.
[Phillies Win!](https://imgur.com/ZgCBA4l)
Nice rout to wash away the weekend series. Great game by Sanchez, big bombs by Schwarbs and Bohm, a freaking 4-4 night for Marchán. He's only the 2nd player all season to do that.
There is part of me that is so burned out by the Sixers that Im numb to the Celtics inevitably winning tonight. I hope I don’t ever get like that about the Phils.
Holy shit this game was so cool! I knew having Trea and being back in Philly would inginite something. So proud of these guys tonight! We really needed this. The offense is so good at home. It's already been proven that Phillies fans travel well but they still lost a lot the past 2 series. It was painful to watch. I love these guys coming back though! Let's find a way to win on the road. It's not lack of fans.
Bohm hitting a homer on the first pitch after a mound visit was comedy gold. I’m surprised the Padres pitcher just didn’t run to his dugout at that point
reminds me of the last Padres series when Bohm knocked a first pitch homer off of Dylan Cease right after they finished talking about how Cease had only given up like 2(?) HRs to righties all year lol
This team is fun. I have chills. It's mid June and I'm fully invested. I graduated HS in 08 and that run was fun because I partied through it. I was mentally invested but from a "Life is short party hard" mindset. This team is different. I'm at a place in life where I'm actually fully invested like on a personal level. I got engaged during the 22 run, married just after the 23 post season, and this year my wife and I have a partial Sunday plan. I've been to more games this season already than I have in any previous years. We watch just about every single game at home and it just feels good. They are out there having fun and its fun to watch. It makes me feel good and it's honestly reinvigorating. This season cannot be derailed it's been next man up every time. At this point I don't know how this ends but I'm having fun and this will be a team that sticks with me. I hope one day to be able to share stories of this team with any kids i have. This is how you show up for your team, in sports, in work, in life. Its a team i am proud to root for and would be honored if my eventual children show the same character.
God dam! It's impossible not to be romantic about baseball.
We don’t have much catching depth in the org. Marchan with a bomb a few days ago and then a 4-4 game with a laser to get a runner out is a great sign. Seems like health is a major question though. Been injured a lot.
I should have made it clearer that I meant MLB ready catching depth. JT going down was a bit of a nightmare scenario, luckily Marchan has done a good job filling in. We do have some prospects, but our top 3 catching prospects is a 17-year old, a 24-year old who projects as a backup and a 20-year old who did not play catcher a whole lot in high school. I think we should be looking at drafting a catcher early in the upcoming draft, but JT has been durable during his career and not showed signs of slowing down so might not be a problem we have for some time.
Dear MLB,
Next time you send a team out of the country…make it the Braves or the Mets, heck why not both?
Signed,
A Philly fan
PS - Back to back away games after a series in London? You must really hate the Phillies or something. Well prepare to take back those words as we’re going to get pumped up!
I’m tired of this complaint. The Phillies were home for 14 of the 20 games before the London series. The Mets played on the road immediately before London. Who cares?
They didn’t lose because of the schedule. They lost because the Orioles and Red Sox are good.
Yeah, I agree. Enough with the pissing and moaning. These same people would dunking all over any other fan base who had the nerve to make this kind of excuse.
Did the extra travel and time changes hurt? Yeah, probably. But enough with the excuses. This team should have taken 2 out of 3 in Boston and the Orioles are just good. Enough whining.
Yup. If you want to blame the schedule for going 2-4 after London? Then you should credit the schedule for the disproportionate home games BEFORE London which allowed them to get to a 10-game division lead
I think the Red Sox are a little better than their record might suggest by virtue of the fact they’ve done that in the AL East. But I 100% feel the Phils should have gotten 2 out of 3 there and probably would have had the pitching been managed better in Game 2.
Their record has been exactly .500 something like 16 different times, they're two games over after a 3-game winning streak, and a 6-4 record over their last 10. That's decidedly average, by any definition.
Then let’s not call people morons for wanting to replace a backup catcher who has a negative fWAR for his career, and a negative fWAR since the end of 2022
To be fair, like the one thing Stubbs is on the team for (based on reports, the organization, the pitching staff, realmuto, etc.) does not show up in his WAR.
Instead it shows up in our pitchers WAR, as his only reason to be on the team is his game planning. Which by all accounts, is elite.
So you wanna DFA stubbs while JT is out on surgery rehab after a Backup catcher who just had his 2nd or 3rd start this year had a good game? Not to mention the guy is integral in gameplanning throughout the week with the pitching staff.
You think thats a good idea? Smart stuff dude. Thats a great idea
I like Marchan. It’s not time to DFA Stubby, but I am also curious to see if we’ve got a backup catcher who can produce a bit more than Stubbs. He looks good and I want to know what he can do with more reps.
But it absolutely remains to be seen.
I think people, admittedly including myself, are hoping we unexpectedly struck gold on someone who rises to the pressure beyond our expectations. What a story line it would be.
I think they are just happy Marchan went 4-4.
I mean, I am seeing a lot of "Stubbs only provides vibes comments," and I don't think anyone who follows the team actually believes that.
I think everyone is just riding the high of the game and memeing.
I also know you don't think Stubbs only provides vibes since you read the athletic and Gelb. And I know you like realmuto enough to know what he said his own weakness was and who fixed it.
If you want to bait me, you have to do something else other than things I absolutely know you know the facts around.
Especially Mr. "Stats don't say everything" and "Whatever makes our pitching staff comfortable should be prioritized".
Yeah. There is some of that. But there is also a large group of fans that have an irrational hatred of the guy who are just waiting for the first opportunity to get rid of him.
If Marchan can show he can consistently swing the bat and hold up defensively all game then you obviously develop him into your backup catcher over Stubbs eventually , but the idea of Just dfa-ing the backup catcher who helps with game-planning and is a huge part of the locker room (not to mention he is hitting pretty well currently) is just wild.
Just give it some time people
Good to see us dominate the NL
The Phils are 13-2 against the Padres since “That’s What’s In” was released by their fans.

well glad to see we’re not the only club that has struggled against the Giants
didn’t we sweep?
we did but historically we haven’t fared well
i think giants have 2nd most wins in mlb history, and phillies have most losses ever. fuck history. focus on the now 😂
yea i am as in 2010-2024 and we were really bad like 2019-2022 or something like that, pretty recent history.
well luckily we didn’t sign Neris
HECTOR NOOOO!! Classic HONKTOR moment
Freddie Freeman is about to have one of the worst ToppsNow cards of all time tomorrow /u/perryplat199
GUARENTEE. Only 2 cards tomorrow both form this game. Freeman and now Greg Jones
Bet he still gets it for 5 anyway.
Schwarbs should get one for this: > Kyle Schwarber has 60 career HR in June in 172 G. What happend
HES ABOUT TO COME UP AND TRY TO TIE A MAJOR LEAGUE RECORD!
Is it 6 BB in a game
👍
Didn’t someone just do that like last year
Well they said Bryce, Andre Thornton (Indians in the 80’s) and Jimmie Foxx (30’s) so I assume not
Seager had 5 in a postseason game last season which is the record. That’s what I was thinking of.

I mean I have always said the eye test is fine, but you need numbers to back it up. Since two different people have two different eyes.
Four? I don’t have two same eyes
Are you happy? You just gave me the headache you so desperately craved.
Always. My night is complete. On to tomorrow.
Wow Celtics are gona win their like 20th championship and Boston’s like 50th major sport Championship. Ooooh so exciting

Good for them. Don’t care.
the mets are whooping the rangers holy cow

A strikeout lol. So what happens if he hits a pop up? Or he walks? Or he grounds out to the pitcher?
13-3 against the Padres since “that’s what’s in”
To think I traveled all the way to Petco for one of those three games
We are the Padres Padre.
WE OWN THESE PADRES ONCE AGAIN
Coolest part of the game for me? Marchán going 4 for 4 with 2 runs and 2 RBI.
Didn’t get to see any of the game, what was marshy error?

Wow. That's. I never bothered to watch it until now but that was worse than I expected.
I had fun, let’s do that again tomorrow.
Why was harper out in the 9th?
Stott was out too. Just defensive replacements in a not so close game
Thank you
I know it’s a small sample size but can we please give Marchan a majority of the at bats while JT is out. I’m not even saying he’s a better hitter than stubs, but we have a comfortable enough lead in the division that we should see if he’s the future answer at backup.
Was thinking the same thing. I like Stubbs as a person and a teammate, but if an injury were to happen, he’s not my every day guy.
Neither Stubbs nor Marchan should play more than 60% of these games.
Totally agree, he’s also a phenomenal defensive catcher.
This is why I'm happy to give him some run. His defense is stellar. But let's not pretend that 4-4 tonight is anything to get excited about lol. Let’s give it up for Christopher Sanchez. Awesome stuff tonight. A good way to bounce back.
Awesome stuff with a tough and inconsistent strike zone. I’m not making excuses, but for a guy to not lose it amid some odd calls, pretty impressive.
He's gonna be a monster when he understands that this is who he really is
In to say, I missed Kruk tonight.
So is Bohm okay from the limping?
That was more of a pimp walk than a limp
Amputation scheduled for Wednesday. Should be back in about 4 weeks
[Phillies Win!](https://imgur.com/ZgCBA4l) Nice rout to wash away the weekend series. Great game by Sanchez, big bombs by Schwarbs and Bohm, a freaking 4-4 night for Marchán. He's only the 2nd player all season to do that.

Damn

At this point I don't know how this ends but I'm having fun and this will be a team that sticks with me. I hope one day to be able to share stories of this team with any kids i have. This is how you show up for your team, in sports, in work, in life. Its a team i am proud to root for and would be honored if my eventual children show the same character. God dam! It's impossible not to be romantic about baseball.
We don’t have much catching depth in the org. Marchan with a bomb a few days ago and then a 4-4 game with a laser to get a runner out is a great sign. Seems like health is a major question though. Been injured a lot.
We have 3 catchers in our top 30 prospects if I’m remembering correctly. It might have been top 25 I forget tbh.
Ya we don’t have any guys that are ready to come up if needed. We traded the one great catching prospect we had to the Angels.
It sucks right now but that was worth it. He wasn't gonna be getting much playing time with JT here.
Detroit hitters with a lack of plate discipline that would make Castellanos blush
And that's with Javy Baez on IL!
What happened to Harper? Why does it say we have 2 first basemen?
My guess is giving him some rest given the 7 run lead. Same with Stott.
So glad we’re home. I don’t wanna leave 😌
Production from the 9 spot is glorious
I didn't like Marsh's defense today, though.
He was vibing bc we were up 50
I really like Marchan. I hope this time with JT out gives him enough reps to show what he can do for us.
Dear MLB, Next time you send a team out of the country…make it the Braves or the Mets, heck why not both? Signed, A Philly fan PS - Back to back away games after a series in London?
Well, yeah all of baseball was doing that lol
Orioles are really good, Red Sox are pretty average.
I think the Red Sox are a little better than their record might suggest by virtue of the fact they’ve done that in the AL East. But I 100% feel the Phils should have gotten 2 out of 3 there and probably would have had the pitching been managed better in Game 2.
Boston is 37-35 with a +38 run differential. That’s above average by any definition
Their record has been exactly .500 something like 16 different times, they're two games over after a 3-game winning streak, and a 6-4 record over their last 10. That's decidedly average, by any definition.
No, the definition of average is literally .500
Yes, which they've been 16 different times, and were under 3 games ago, and likely will be again soon. They're an average baseball team.
Boston has the 11th best record out of 30 teams. What do you think “average” means?
So, they're the best of the middle third. They were exactly .500 at the start of our series with them. What do *you* think average means?
“a number expressing the central value in a set of data” Wow, that was easy. You’ve still yet to answer.
Our boys just needed to come home 🤙🏾 Great win!

This team is really starting to piss him off
That’s honestly them in a good mood.
HAHA I saw this comment and almost said something. Decided to sit back and let them eat their words
Firm but soft
Marchan has 1 good game and every moron under the sun gets on reddit and wants to dfa stubbs lol 😂 ![gif](giphy|UGxfEt5POsukg)
You realize Marchan is gonna take Stubbs job in 2025 right? Stubbs contract is expiring, and he’s pushing 32 years old
Maybe.
I will call them morons and i will be correct in doing so
Marchan is 25 and has already been a more valuable major leaguer than Stubbs in six seasons. Stubbs couldn’t even get to MLB until age 26.
No, I don’t want to do that. But it’s not unreasonable to think Marchan is better
I never said it wasn’t
Oh, just “moronic,” my bad
I like Marchan. It’s not time to DFA Stubby, but I am also curious to see if we’ve got a backup catcher who can produce a bit more than Stubbs. He looks good and I want to know what he can do with more reps. But it absolutely remains to be seen. I think people, admittedly including myself, are hoping we unexpectedly struck gold on someone who rises to the pressure beyond our expectations. What a story line it would be.
Made a similar point in the game thread and was told I’m taking the comments “too literally” 😒
We’ve been waiting for a better backup than trash ass stubbs ❤️
Moron #1 ☝️

![gif](giphy|d48u9sQfiGaKhctO|downsized) Okay Stubby
I think they are just happy Marchan went 4-4. I mean, I am seeing a lot of "Stubbs only provides vibes comments," and I don't think anyone who follows the team actually believes that. I think everyone is just riding the high of the game and memeing.
TIL I don’t follow the team
I also know you don't think Stubbs only provides vibes since you read the athletic and Gelb. And I know you like realmuto enough to know what he said his own weakness was and who fixed it.
JT feeds off the vibes too what can you say
