Mine was suddenly wearing something completely different, assumed it was a weird glitch - went back to select the gold suit again, and had to pay if I wanted it đ Thieves!
This sucks, but they arenât thieves lol. There was a bug which let users select this suit for free when it was never supposed to be free. Annoying but what can you do?
Even if it was a mistake to release it as free instead of paid, they easily could have just let it slide. But no, after ignoring the misery they unleashed with the avatars, they double down like this. It's gross how much they're focusing on penny pinching instead of making players happy even in the slightest đ

Actually, it is not. As for any game with purchasable cosmetics, they cover themselves in the terms of service that you do not actually "own" any of the items you buy through the game, but pretty much are only paying for access which can be rescinded at any time (which protects the company from having to give refunds if they decide to shut down the game).
Will they probably give people back their outfits? Yes, but do they legally have to? No.
Terms of service do not transcend consumer rights. No individual can ever sign away their legal rights in any form of contract, and a court will always rule against the company in such a case. Even if Niantic writes such a thing into their ToS, it doesn't make it legal.
You'd actually have to file a class-action lawsuit in that case. The updated ToS that came out last year, that had everybody up-in-arms, restricted disputes to be ruled by an arbiter, first. The only way to get around that is a class-action lawsuit at this point.
But they didn't say that, and that's the important part, I've seen lawsuits (obviously for bigger things) where even with a small link at the bottom doesn't protect them, and that's in the USA

This isn't legal. If you want to do something about it, go give the app a negative review and voice your complaints. Uninstalling sends a message, continuing to play also sends a message but in a very bad way for the future of the game. You can talk to your bank about reversing charges, as they have taken away something you paid for, even if it was a long time ago.
Edit: Since some people think it's legal since the item was free. I understand the layman has no idea how most legal issues work, but there are legal protections in place through consumer protection laws that do directly outline scenarios that this type of practice would fall under the jurisdiction of. Just because there is no CURRENT legal framework to explicitly detail this as "illegal" does not mean that it is **legal**. It also does not mean that existing laws can't be utilized to set a precedent that would thenceforth create such a framework. All it takes is that one first suit, and trust me it's coming. It might not be this particular issue or even Niantic that gets hit with it, but there are cases in the oven already.
If you reverse charges on your card for something you bought, through Google play, the app may ban your account, just an FYI before you go doing this.

There's a fundamental logical flaw in people being okay with a company taking away something from them that they bought just because they're afraid that they'll get banned from the game for having the AUDACITY to want a refund. There have been tons of people reporting that when they go through customer support demanding a refund that Niantic basically ignores them, feeds them a script "haha sorry. thanks for playing!", or basically leaves them on "read" in the support chat itself by ceasing to respond at all. People should be WAY more pissed than they are, and it's because they feel like something of theirs is being held hostage...... because it literally is. It's borderlining on Stockholm syndrome.

this happened to me with an outfit I'd bought previously when the rollout began in the UK a while back đ I got onto support and complained and they reinstated the outfit for me but it took a good few attempts at conversing w/ niantic
Not happy. I went from wearing a goldish Eevee top and gold bottoms, to an Eevee top and crap pants. I thought the gold stuff was free/reward. I guess the gold stuff was too popular so they decided to get us to buy it back. I'm definitely not going to buy it.
I can't remember if we unlocked these through a new year's event? Or did they used to be purchased until they were unlocked after the avatar update? Could have been a mistake in the update, but even if it was, it's messed up to take that back now. Especially after fucking everything up so bad. At least explain why. I thought for sure they were event rewards prior, does anyone remember?

I actually paid for the gold jacket a couple of weeks ago and they took it away. Put up a ticket and all I got was, "We're Sorry you're having trouble." So, I reported them to the BBB (Better Business Bureau). Let's see if they actually respond like that to them...

Edit: I coughed up pokecoins for it when it was first introduced a cpuple of years ago, and some people are saying they got it for free. Maybe the glitch was the free listing, and that was "corrected." Still crappy though. I wouldn't care if everyone got it for free.

That agreement is in place in order to avoid mass refund requests if they decided to close the game. *Technically* you could use it as a legal standpoint to justify any situation but it's an obtuse take, it doesn't make any sense to just let you buy stuff in game, then taking it away while it's still available to buy. No sane person would conduct a business in such a shitty way, guaranteeing the loss of customers. It's obvious that this was a glitch since it occurred during a massive overhaul of the clothes shop system.

You guys are still bitching over this. Niantic gives people a ton of new things and because it doesnât suit your needs itâs the worse thing in the world. Spend some time and you can actually do better than it was before. I swear some of you will just find anything to complain about no matter what

Yes but there's a level of faith you put into the company and if you believe they will do right by you. They broke the good faith and we can bitch about that if we want. No, there isn't much we can do about.. so let us bitch so we have a little power over how we feel about it. Besides, I haven't complained about it at all .. I just thought that one post (the one I responded to) that made it sound like people were complaining about nothing, was rude.
That agreement is in place in order to avoid mass refund requests if they decided to close the game. *Technically* you could use it as a legal standpoint to justify any situation but it's an obtuse take, it doesn't make any sense to just let you buy stuff in game, then taking it away while it's still available to buy. No sane person would conduct a business in such a shitty way, guaranteeing the loss of customers. It's obvious that this was a glitch since it occurred during a massive overhaul of the clothes shop system.
