There's no recognized breed-standard in the US besides toy, mini, and standard. Toys with extra long legs are still toys until they meet the low-limit height measurements to be considered a mini.   You can ask toy breeders if their lines produce tall/long-legged toys, but finding a reputable breeder with healthy bloodlines that has litters to your preference might be a (pun fully intended) tall order.

EscapeDue3064

Yeah I figured. Jazzi was definitely from a backyard breeder. I got her for free actually when she was 5 years old, from a lady on facebook who bought her as a 6 week old puppy (red flag) and was getting rid of her due to simply not wanting to pay for and manage her atopic dermatitis that was fairly easily managed with a special diet and daily medication. She also announced her pregnancy a few months after she got rid of Jazzi, so I suspect that was another reason she wanted to rehome her😒

Re-ink_the_pen

Ugh, some people should not be allowed to own or breed any animal. I'm so glad that Jazzi and you found each other and that she knew how much she was loved.  Good breeders are definitely out there, so best of luck finding the right one for you!

PrinceBel

A correctly built Poodle should be as tall at the wither as they are long. Short legged Poodles are a result of drawfism and poor breeding. If you want a Poodle that looks correct, go to a breeder who shows in conformation. You didn't say where you are located, but some breeders I recommend who show and do appropriate health testing include Rayah Poodles, Safranne Poodles, and Aery Poodles. These are mini breeders, not toy breeders. I don't know any toy breeders who do appropriate health testing. Most are in denial about Toys getting hip dysplasia. A well bred Poodle is going to be more expensive. But the upfront cost is nothing compared to the vet bills you will pay over the lifetime of the dog.

I’m in the US, in Georgia. I’m prepared to pay good money for a well-bred Poodle when I decide to get another one. I loved Jazzi dearly, but she had a particularly bad case of Atopic Dermatitis that was only ever 80-90% managed with meds and a special derm diet. She came from a backyard breeder originally. I got her for free from a lady who was just giving her away for free on facebook 😑

DigitalClutter

A great breeder for toys in GA is G8rcreek, they show their dogs in confo, agility, obedience. You can google them up if you’re interested. Other toy breeders to possibly check out are Custom, Clarion, Silvabirch, and Dreem. They all should have testing for their breeding dogs on ofa.org. Eta—-I also want to note that so many toys are bred poorly with a long body/short legs that people often aren’t used to correctly proportioned toys (which should, like all varieties, be equally long in leg and back resulting in a square dog)—-often these toys seem leggy when people are used to seeing the squat looking byb dogs.

EscapeDue3064

Thank you so much for the info! Maybe my girl was a breed-standard specimen after all.

PrinceBel

It sounds like you gave her a good home where she was very loved. So sorry for your loss.

EscapeDue3064

She was so so loved. She was my baby. I hate to think what would’ve happened to her if someone else who wouldn’t have given her a good home saw her being given away for free and got to her before I did. She had a lot of special needs with her skin too. I cringe every time I see an animal being given away for free. So many bad things happen to them.

The comment on that third photo!! No other living being can throw shade like a poodle. I'm sorry you lost your Jazzi. My Pepper is an oversized Toy (she was supposedly a Toy, according to the breeder, but she's mini sized). I think the categories are pretty flexible.

EscapeDue3064

She was the shade QUEEN. They’re the best.

SmallMushroom5

Since poodles are all the same breed with height categories you can't really have an "overly tall" toy. If it's taller than toy, it's a mini. If it's taller than mini it's a moyen or standard depending on where you're at. Poodles should all have a kind of lanky but elegant look, regardless of size. Look through the poodle club of the country you're in and see their registry of poodle breeders of the size (and maybe color) you're looking for. Talk to the breeder you're considering about what you're looking for and you'll find out if it's a fit. Sorry for your loss and good luck with the next one ❤️

EscapeDue3064

She was in between the Toy and Miniature size category. She was just all legs. I assumed maybe she was the result of breeding a Toy to a Miniature. I’m definitely doing my breeder homework for the next one. She was a rescue I got for free.

Solar_Fairy

So my mini boy is referred to as an oversized mini as he's gone taller than the set standards for height, he's similar that his legs are just longer. I assume it's the same for a toy, so she'd be an oversized toy?

EscapeDue3064

Her groomers/vets always commented on how she was a tall Toy and how long her legs were.

Solar_Fairy

Yeah the so tall but light comments are common from them. Or the is he a standard puppy I get with his odd dimensions. The only other thing anecdote I can add for finding one maybe is my breeder does show minis (here in uk) and stated they bred with the hope of the pups to grow to the top end of the height standards for a "more impressive presence in the ring" so some may go oversized in the litter, to which I replied I wasn't bothered as I wanted a companion pet not looking to show.

cprgolds

Well you have an extra inch in the UK. UK tiy height limit is 11 inches at the withers, whilst US and Canada are 10 inches. So one could move a tall toy from the UK to US and voila, it becomes a miniature. LOL

TropheyHorse

I thought all poodles were naturally long of limb? The ones I've known definitely are. My girl is, and her brother always managed to be the tallest but the lightest little micro dog on the playground. I call my girl "lady lovely legs" because of her elegant legs. I think short legged Poodles are a result of poor breeding and this stupid attempt to create "teacup poodles". Sorry for your loss, it's always so hard to lose a beloved family member like that. She was gorgeous.

EscapeDue3064

Thank you❤️ I really don’t like the short-legged Poodles and “Teacups” shouldn’t even exist. I’ve seen some Toys with legs so short they almost look like Dachshunds. Not a fan. But I know they’re just a result of backyard breeding.

TropheyHorse

What? Yeah that's definitely not right. That is the result of unethical byb for sure.

cprgolds

I have a "normal" leg length toy. I was unable to brush her out for a couple of weeks and her legs got matted. After cutting the legs real closely, she now looks "long-legged". She looks just like in the photo. The long legs may just be an illusion from lack of coat.

EscapeDue3064

Could be. Every “leggy” Toy I’ve seen also had a short haircut. We kept Jazzi trimmed short due to her atopic dermatitis. It was just so much easier to manage with her fur short, and she seemed to prefer it that way. Every vet and groomer she’s had has commented that her legs were longer than usual for a Toy though. Last summer we went to a random Pet store in Naples, Florida while on vacation and 2 cashiers commented on how long her legs were, and that was even after her lower back/hips were locked up from arthritis and she couldn’t fully stand up straight. She walked hunched up like a raccoon once the old age arthritis set in when she was around 15. She was on 100 mg Gabapentin twice a day and the Librela arthritis injection every 8 wks, but still had a bad time with it in her lower back/back legs. She traveled primarily in a stroller at that point.

Rabid_Platypus_195

I have a leggy toy, they're called oversized toys

No_Airline_9550

omg those eyes🥺 I’m so sorry for your loss. I’ve had poodles pretty much my entire life as well. Out of all my poodles, the oldest one was 19 and current oldest is 17. It’s interesting because they both had/have longer legs and torso like Jazzi! However, they are mother-daughter so the genetics is probably playing a big part.

EscapeDue3064

My last Toy Poodle lived to be 19. Jazzi girl almost made it that long😔

Janezo

The dog I grew up with was a toy poodle with long legs. She was gorgeous. I’m so sorry you lost Jazzi.

Technical_Egg8628

Yes please.

Wool_Lace_Knit

Your Jazzi was a beautiful little princess. What a blessing you had so many years with her. Jazzi was blessed that you rescued her and were so committed to giving her the best life possible. I had a long legged toy 1987-2003. She was a beautiful blue silver girl. Our last poodle, another silver was square, beautiful confirmation and lived to be 16 1/2. I also have been poodle-less for the first time in over 50 years of having poodles in my life. We would love another one, but the costs now of a well bred dog our beyond us. I am keeping an eye on rescue groups and am considering adopting a young senior.

EscapeDue3064

She was indeed a beautiful Princess. Thank you for your kind words. I was born in 1988. I was 15 and a high school Sophomore in 2003. That seemed like a lifetime to me then. Your baby lived a good, long life. I would prefer to adopt another rescue Poodle, but there don’t seem to be many purebred Poodles in rescues near me anymore when there used to be a lot 10-20 yrs ago. The “designer breed” poodle mix trend has contributed a lot to this and I hate it. We have 4 indoor cats also, so it might be better if we got a puppy to get it used to the cats early on. We love cats, but never wanted 4 cats at once lol. We had a feral mama cat living on the property we bought 7 yrs ago, so we caught and kept her litter when they were 6 wks old, to bring them inside and socialize them for adoption. This was in 2018 and a very busy kitten season where I live, so I couldn’t find a rescue to take the spicy babies. They were all slam full. My husband and I just decided to keep the litter and TNR’ed mom immediately lol. Now mom is living the fat, spayed life and her sweet, now 6 year old babies are living the fat (also fixed), domestic indoor life. They were never overly fond of Jazzi because she wasn’t raised with cats and while she never hurt them, she was extremely jealous of them getting in my lap if she was nearby. She’d mildly harass them sometimes for a few seconds for the fun of it (chasing them across the room half-heartedly). They co-existed peacefully, they just never liked each other. Except for 1 of the cats, she loved Jazzi despite her insufferable Diva tendencies and mourned when she passed😔

Ocean_Explore-123

She’s beautiful, sorry for your loss! I have an oversized Toy and she is tall but light and I agree that it’s a great size. She was the biggest in her litter and grew taller than her parents. Go to a good breeder and maybe get one of the bigger ones in the litter. I think any size would make an amazing companion though!
