Agree. Feel a bit cheated since they released three of the songs almost a year ago. Then one instrumental track, and then portals? We got three additional tracks. Love the three additional tracks, but just wish there was one or two more songs on the album.
it feels hella half assed and uninspired, which tracks because they basically admitted themselves they only threw it together because the singles were popular, which are already some modern day turnover shite. dont like a single song on it and its flow sucks
death is a warm blanket is their best too so huge plummet you hate to see it. i think their first two are kinda overrated anyway ngl but i at least like those two lol. this album sounds like it was made to be played at old navy or kohls or smth
I love it so much. I get why people may find it boring, but I can respect these guys as musicians to just be making what they want, and doing it well. On top of that Circling The Drain is arguably the best song they’ve ever written
I second this, this album is just next level, it's a no skip and every single damn song is a hit in my eyes.
Edit: I mean Belmont. But alkaline trio's release was such a nice surprise. Neck deep smashed it as well
I wasn't the biggest Aftermath fan (I still liked it and there is plenty of great stuff on it, but definitely prefer their self titled and Between You & Me sounds more) so I was interested to see what Liminal ended up sounding like overall. Very pleasantly surprised, it felt like they managed to reintroduce a little of that pure pop punk sound while maintaining all of the bells and whistles, almost literally, that you would expect from them.
Neck Deep
Bayside
Aaron West & the Roaring Twenties.
I really like all 3 of these albums. Alkaline Trio’s new album is also good. I’m looking forward to The Story So Far and Frank Turner’s new albums. They both have singles out already that are really good.
i like half of those. blink, gami, and koyo are solid. i think blood pretty easily tops all of those albums tho
but i also think it's alkaline trio's best album and they basically saved my life when i was in high school so i know where my bias goes. that said, it's such a massive stride forward instrumentally for them and tbh for the genre that i really think it's a classic beyond just my own adoration for the band
Yeah I feel you, I mean I like alk but I wouldn’t say they floored the competition this decade so far, but that’s the beauty of music subjectivity, nobody is wrong!!
true i just also dont really like the new school bands much. the neck deep wave never really connected with me at all but i get those who grew up on it love it so my take is gonna probably just come across as kinda old heady anyway lol
Yeah, I’m almost 30 so most of these bands are all next gen to me too compared to what I started on (good charlotte, nfg, blink, etc) and I wasn’t the biggest fan of neck deep until their last two albums, I think they’re finding a better tone for their style with these recent releases
i dig their older stuff a little more ha but again all is beautiful in subjectivity
and i can sympathize in a way because i think of that wave of bands i am most intrigued about what tssf can do off of only being sold on their newest stuff. i didnt get them until proper dose but its my favorite album i can think of from that wave
Just off the top of my head? Since 2020?
Spanish Love Songs
Bayside
Hot Mulligan
Koyo
The Wonder Years
Tigers Jaw
Pup
Origami Angel
The Menzingers
Have all released record(s) that exceed the newest AK3 record.
Don’t get me wrong, AK3 is awesome. But they’re not breaking any new ground, and they’re not doing anything better than they haven’t already done.
yeah i just disagree strongly lol. really disagree that theyve done what they do on that album better on other stuff since it's probably the most "different" alkaline trio album they've made. nowhere would a riff like hot for preacher or a chorus like scars have existed on another trio lp
not that new ground really matters in pop punk but i think alk3 are breaking "newer ground" than those bands in how far theyve thrown their traditional vocal split out the window, found new creative ways to blur those parts together, and swapped out the genres power chords for honest to god riffs. blood just challenges my sense of musical expectation in a way nothing i've heard this decade does (and i've jammed all of those), particularly spanish love songs when every song on brave faces everyone sounds identical
i definitely cannot cosign the menzingers lol i love their first 6 albums but their newest is honestly terrible. i'm so disappointed i only liked three songs and they'd all be weaker songs on any other album of theirs
Shit, I didn't realize Hello Exile was 2019. I respectfully withdraw them as being good since 2022 as I completely agree that Some Of It Was True is....terrible.
I agree with this completely. Menzingers dropped like a top 3 2010s punk album with After the Party, followed it up with an incredibly solid and really exciting release like Hello Exile, and then absolutely dropped the ball with SOIWT.
Also I just wanna say regarding your original comment, I’d take almost any alk3 album over that new(est) wonder years. My bias is pretty similar to illusivetomas, alk3 are my favorite band and I love nearly everything they’ve put out including the new record.. but goddamn TWY are one of my favorite bands too and they’ve just been writing nothing but snoozefests of albums this far in their career. THGOF genuinely only has like.. 3 good songs… maybe…
Funny, to me - THGOF is the best thing they’ve released since Suburbia, and may be their best record yet.
But that may be personal bias because of the lyrical content and how well it matches where I am in my life. It hit on a very personal level.
I respect it. I’m not a father or anything like that and I’m wrapping up my freshman year of college right now so the older TWY definitely resonates with me more.
Riley - keep your cool!
Microwave - let’s start degeneracy
Stay inside - ferried away
Carpool - my life in subtitles

3. NOTHING MORE - CARNAL
4. Bon Jovi - Forever
I don’t think it’s pop punk but if you are looking for something that sounds a little different the new Mannequin Pussy album is soooooooo good. Every song is catchy as hell.
Saw them open up for the wonder years a couple years back in a small ass venue and then for movements just this past year. Incredible live and the new album is so sick
Casey and Bayside are my frontrunners so far.
Bayside have received a lot of mixed feelings from fans about the release format, but all the songs slap as a whole.
So happy to see alll of the bayside love here. This band has been killing it for decades and I feel like they are finally getting the recognition they deserve
Here are the albums I love from this year that I haven’t seen mentioned. A lot of these would be considered more “emo” than Pop Punk but genre labels are unimportant imo.
Paul Bunyan’s Slingshot by Liquid Mike
Good Journey by The Forecast
Third Wind by Gulfer
I’d Say I’m Not Fine by Barely Civil
UTOPIA NOW! by Rosie Tucker
No Matter What by Knavery
I mean, as far as pop punk goes, neck deep absolutely crushed their last album. It's on par with their best work ever! I'd also recommend the band the requiem. They remind me of my chemical romance. Lastly, If you like bullet for my valentine, I'd recommend kill the lights. They are so criminally underrated.
my personal favorites:
neck deep - neck deep
sunday cruise - the art of losing your reflection
aaron west and the roaring 20s - in lieu of flowers
riley! - keep your cool
In no particular order here are the ones that have stood out the most.
Alkaline Trio - Blood, Hair, and Eyeballs
Aaron West and the Roaring Twenties - In Lieu of Flowers
Carpool - My Life in Subtitles
Cory Wells - Harboring the Hurt I've Caused
Bayside - There Are Worst Things Than Being Alive
Sum 41 - Heaven :x: Hell
Belmont - Liminal
Fluorescents - Scream It At Me!
Green Day - Saviors
Neck Deep - Neck Deep
Not in the scene but some others:
Mannequin Pussy - I Got Heaven (Noise/Art Punk)
Nicolas Craven / Boldy James - Penalty of Leadership (rap written after Boldy James was in a horrible car accident with his view on life)
SNUFF - Off the Charabanc (old school punk band with a new album)
EKKSTACY - EKKSTACY (emo rap? but some post punk influences that peak through)
SPRINTS - Letter to Self (Alt Rock / Garage Punk)
The Last Dinner Party - Prelude to Ecstasy (Baroque Pop and surprisingly catchy)
BH&E - Alkaline Trio
Saviors - Green Day
Let's Start Degeneracy - Microwave
There Are Worse Things Than Being Alive - Bayside
In Lieu of Flowers - Aaron West and the Roaring Twenties
Heaven x Hell - Sum 41
Liminal - Belmont
Neck Deep - Neck Deep
----Non Pop-Punk:----
Trail of Flowers - Sierra Ferrell
Ohio Players - The Black Keys
Mantras - Katie Pruitt
Dark Matter - Pearl Jam
Don't Forget Me - Maggie Rogers
Faith Crisis Pt 1 - Middle Kids

Mix of pop punk, hxc, and random stuff all requested in 23
Sum41, Neck Deep, and Games We Play all had great albums. I’m not the big of a sum41 fan, but that album is amazing
Also Green Day’s album wasn’t bad. It had a few bangers on it.
Mannequin Pussy (not pop punk necessarily but definitely has punk in it.) also, very excited about the new One Step Closer album. More hardcore, but the singles have been very good.
I’m not sticking to strictly pop punk: Arrested Development, Benny the Butcher, Alkaline Trio, nothing, nowhere., Laura Jane Grace, Glitterer, Stay Inside (current aoty for me), Aaron West and the Roaring Twenties, SeeYouSpaceCowboy, The Ghost Inside, The Goalie’s Anxiety at the Penalty Kick, Brother Ali.
Shoreline— Because I've not seen it here yet. I saw them open for SLS in February, they recently supported Knuckle Puck, and tonight I finally caught their headline show. Amazing album and very solid band.
I'm also loving Bayside and Microwave right now.
[playlist](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/7DwgK3VqP0LTSPm3X3wXM2?si=xg4Ith44R1KabdoPIvJ1PA&pi=u-_FGYNjsnSlGf)
It's microwave, neck deep, alkaline trio, sum41, Green day, quarters of change, and Bayside for me
Hot take and I’ll get downvoted to hell for this but miss me with the new Neck Deep album. It’s pretty bland.
Pop-punk Adjacent but the new Aaron West and the roaring twenties is easily the best project to come out so far this year.
New Microwave just dropped!
Bored of Being Sad and Ferrari are SO GOOD
My favorite album of 2024 so far! Its amazing, start to finish.
I'm so sad to say I don't vibe with it. Maybe it will grow on me later
Aw. Thats okay. Sometimes things just dont jive with us. I personally really love how layered it all is, and ive always been a fan of their lyrics.
I feel the same. Very underwhelmed, considering how good some of the singles were.
I think the deep cuts were the weakest songs (especially strangers and the intro/interlude), but omni is top tier
Agree. Feel a bit cheated since they released three of the songs almost a year ago. Then one instrumental track, and then portals? We got three additional tracks. Love the three additional tracks, but just wish there was one or two more songs on the album.
Lacks intensity for me when it was my complaint about the last one being too intense lol. Omni is an amazing song.
yeah its their worst easily : (
I’d love to see this take explained because how lol
it feels hella half assed and uninspired, which tracks because they basically admitted themselves they only threw it together because the singles were popular, which are already some modern day turnover shite. dont like a single song on it and its flow sucks death is a warm blanket is their best too so huge plummet you hate to see it. i think their first two are kinda overrated anyway ngl but i at least like those two lol. this album sounds like it was made to be played at old navy or kohls or smth

It's solid, but only just. Ferrari and Let's Go Degeneracy save it.
I love Microwave, one of my all time favorite bands. But, I just can’t click with this album. It’s not bad, but it’s not for me.
I wish I liked it :-(
Album is a huge snooze. Big letdown.
Belmont's new album has been insane. But agree with all the others noted too, Alk3 and Neck Deep
Belmont's new release is from another planet.
I second this, this album is just next level, it's a no skip and every single damn song is a hit in my eyes. Edit: I mean Belmont. But alkaline trio's release was such a nice surprise. Neck deep smashed it as well
Belmont is the answer.

Aaron west is going to be hard to beat for me.
I don't think there's anything due for release this year that will top it for me, across all genres I listen to.
Same. Nothing announced yet at least
AW20 is literally perfect. Just the perfect listen-through album. Lyrically beautiful and so damn catchy I find myself constantly singing the songs
Neck deep for sure
Best pop-punk album this decade. Saw them live earlier this year, best show I've seen live. The sound and energy were perfect.
[удалено]
probably the best pop punk album of the decade thus far
Well this is certainly a take.
yeah a good take where is there competition? 2020s has been a really dry decade for the genre otherwise imo. nothing has come close
It’s been dry? Idk, new blink, neck deep, WSTR, no pressure, Koyo, origami angel, knuckle puck all been pretty good for me
i like half of those. blink, gami, and koyo are solid. i think blood pretty easily tops all of those albums tho but i also think it's alkaline trio's best album and they basically saved my life when i was in high school so i know where my bias goes. that said, it's such a massive stride forward instrumentally for them and tbh for the genre that i really think it's a classic beyond just my own adoration for the band

yeahhh : (
I think the No Pressure album is way better
It was awful…
Bayside’s new album is a complete banger from front to back.
Yesss it's all I've been listening to lately
I had to deliberately pry myself off it last week lol
The whole album is great but I've been particularly into "Go To Hell"
Seeing them this weekend. The setlist is excellent.
Really fuckin with the new Riley! album
777 is such a great opener, and the rest of the album slaps
Riley - keep your cool! Microwave - let’s start degeneracy Stay inside - ferried away Carpool - my life in subtitles Sweet pill - star child Thank you I’m sorry - repeating threes I swallow ghosts - deluxe kick bike
Neck Deep Alkaline Trio Bayside Sum 41 Lovebreakers (don't sleep on this folks!).
>Lovebreakers (don't sleep on this folks!). Who are they similar to?
Sorta Powerpop Green Day but from the UK.
Aaron West no questions
Really? I found it so damn whiney. Like, cringe/embarrassed to be listening to it level.
How many times did you listen? I find with all AW20 songs it gets better as I listen more
Ok this I'd pulling from many genres but here's my (ranking) list so far Albums: 1. The Requiem - A Cure to Poison the World 2. Green Day - Saviors 3. Pearl Jam - Dark Matter 4. Forgot to include bad omens concrete jungle ost and one step closer album as anticipated
I wasn’t a fan of saviours
Ok
I don’t think it’s pop punk but if you are looking for something that sounds a little different the new Mannequin Pussy album is soooooooo good. Every song is catchy as hell.

Here it is!!!!
Sum 41 and Neck Deep for me. Bayside is right up there but since most the songs have been out for ages it's hard to say it's a new album for me.
The new Green Day and Alkaline Trio are tied for me, need to get round to checking out the latest Neck Deep
Casey and Bayside are my frontrunners so far. Bayside have received a lot of mixed feelings from fans about the release format, but all the songs slap as a whole.
It's just the way things are now though sadly with most releases. It's a fucking great record though.

Alkaline trio’s Blood Hair and Eyeballs is 10/10, it may only have 10 songs but every one is perfect.
ALK3 and Neck Deep.
Neck Deep’s self titled is not only the best album this year, it’s the best album in several years.
In no particular order here are the ones that have stood out the most. Didn't think I'd see Boldy James referenced on a pop punk subreddit. Also, wasn't it Boldy who was in the car accident? Not Nicholas.
You are completely correct. Fixed.

Drug Seeker's newest album "Manic" is tite
Sum41, Neck Deep, and Games We Play all had great albums. I’m not the big of a sum41 fan, but that album is amazing Also Green Day’s album wasn’t bad. It had a few bangers on it.
I have been enjoying Neck Deep and Sum 41, but nothing has jumped out as much as some albums from last year yet for me.
Green Day’s “SAVIORS” has grown on me quite a bit since its release in January
Rn it’s a tie but I can’t wait for TSSFs new album
Alkaline Trio; Blood Sweat and Eyeballs is on constant repeat for me.
Bayside, Alkaline Trio, and Neck Deep are towards the top for sure!
Mannequin Pussy (not pop punk necessarily but definitely has punk in it.) also, very excited about the new One Step Closer album. More hardcore, but the singles have been very good.
I'm loving the new album from Cold Years. Just dropped last Friday!

The singles from CHILIØs new record are bangers
Easily Neck Deep self titled
Aaron West is my favorite album of the year, though Akkaline Trio, Bayside and Green Day all had great albums this year.

Alkaline Trio!!
I really like Liminal by Belmont, definitely my favourite of the year
Youth fountain. Together in lonesome. Start to finish fantastic.
Big ass truck
Microwave had a killer album
Neck deep. I really liked Green Day’s new record, not revolutionary but fun. New Summer 41 was fun too. Psyched for what can’t swim is doing.
Mean Jeans - Blasted
Beyond the beneath
I mean lil lotus nosebleeder dropped a deluxe in march, if you haven't listened to the OG though it's worth it. Neck deeps self titled was also fun
Does anyone have a spotify playlist with all of these albums in?
[playlist](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/7DwgK3VqP0LTSPm3X3wXM2?si=xg4Ith44R1KabdoPIvJ1PA&pi=u-_FGYNjsnSlGf) It's microwave, neck deep, alkaline trio, sum41, Green day, quarters of change, and Bayside for me
Bayside, Belmont and Microwave. Also loved Sum 41s album
Hot take and I’ll get downvoted to hell for this but miss me with the new Neck Deep album. It’s pretty bland. Pop-punk Adjacent but the new Aaron West and the roaring twenties is easily the best project to come out so far this year.
I think this question gets asked every week
