That's a good thing. I bet the boomers were clutching their pearls thinking about all the dems being able to vote. My opinion is I don't care who you vote for, just vote every time.
Varies by region. Where I live, if you get a generic government ID, it nullifies your license. So if it's suspended, they take the card from you, and issue you a new one once the suspension is over. But if you get a standard ID card in the interim, it nullifies your license, and you have tonstartbback at your learner's permit. So that leaves you without ID, unless you've got a passport. And they take a while to get.
I'm in canada. If I get the provincial ID, it will completely void my driver's license. I would have to start from the beginning, as if I'd never driven before.
But I'd have to jump through all the hoops to get my license back. Take all the tests again, go to drivers education, etc. Or I can just wait it out and get my license back.
I would double check that. I would think they would not allow a gap in ID. I find it hard to believe that a government issue ID is invalid simply because you are applying for your drivers license.
Not worth the risk … the only time I made an exception was a guy who while he didn’t have a state id he had his prison id… it was for cigarettes and he looked like he’d had a rough day
The other day i carded someone who indignantly claimed to be 30. I was alone. I looked around for an unmarked suv, didn’t see one, and typed in her birthdate. Oops.
I guess the guy isn't aware that he can go to the DMV and get a standard ID card? Not that I'm proud of it, but that's what I did when I became a member of the not-so-exclusive DUI Club. I swear, that club will accept anybody
I own both an Illinois driver license and an Illinois state ID because it's perfectly legal.
The state ID goes into my wallet, and the license is kept in my glove box.
I haven't been pulled over yet, but in one motion I can grab both my license and insurance.
And then if I'm walking somewhere or getting a ride, I still have an ID on me if I'm not taking my car.
Yeah not very hard to get in, the day they dismissed my first DUI and kicked me out of the club they just let me right back in that night.
I thought it was pretty nice of them to include me again even though I was obviously pretty damn stupid.
Also when they hand you a dmv paper saying their id is on the way, but its not valid for store use. Then they get pissed and try to have someone else buy it for them.
For situations where you want to keep your driver's license separate from your ID.
Your drivers license always expires on your birthday, but whenever you order or renew your ID separately, do it at a time other than your birthday.
Also fun is when that would be perfectly valid, but they don't have it.
You say you lost it? Well, that paper IS your license rn, so you better be just as worried as if it were the plastic version.
I had a guy really trying to guilt me into selling alcohol on a 6 year expired license. Then asked if his friend could buy his stuff. Like, no, I’m not losing my job and getting fined so he can drink beer. People are nuts.
yeah, just because the dude's license is suspended doesn't mean he can't have valid id. they make ids for people who don't or can't drive, so the customer coulda got one of them. In my shop, we don't take any chances with anyone, if you don't have valid id, all you can buy here is soda pop...
when we first started having to scan them I had a guy with a license that expired before I was born, I am in my 30's. Cherry on top had his mommy come bitch me out.
Not worth the risk. At least in my state everyone gets carded, even my 94 year old grandma. If he wants booze that much, most states will give out alternate forms of photo ID.
I used to be manager in car rentals. One time, I had a woman travelling with her teenage daughter who cussed me up and down because I wouldn't rent her a car despite her license being 2.5 years expired. Nice thing about being the manager, I could tell to fuck off in corpo-speak and there's shit all she can do about it.
"Ma'am, I am unable to assist you or your daughter any further due to a lack of suitable identification. I am now instructing you both to immediately leave the premises. Have a great day."
I had one guy give me an attitude and then try to give me an ID that was 10 YEARS EXPIRED!! When I told him I couldn't take it, he gave me another one that was 5 years expired!! At that point I just told him "You're not getting any cigarettes tonight. Go away." And then he tried to send someone in to buy them for him, and I was like "Nope. Until he comes back with a current, valid ID, *nobody's* getting these Marlboro Lights."
These ass clowns are just wasted space.
I get why you didn’t sell it to him but it is ridiculous an expired ID is not valid for age identification. I understand why people need a current drivers license but it is not possible to age backwards. If you have something in your hand that verifies a person was 21 at any previous time then that is all that should matter.
Legally it does. That way you can't give your expired ID to a friend who looks a little bit like you but is too young to drink/buy smokes/vape or whatever.
Contributions that are disrespectful or degrading towards retail workers are not welcome in this community. We have a very low tolerance for this rule being broken. Very easy to get perma-banned violating this.
Couple weeks ago girl comes in with her grandma. It’s store policy if they can’t verify 21 when asked then I can refuse the sale. They both grabbing stuff then come to the counter. I have 2 jobs so I can’t remember people from 5 minutes unless your an every day regular. I ask girl for ID. Grandma says she doesn’t have one so I reply then I can’t sell to her since I can’t verify she’s 21. Grandma starts putting the girls stuff back but girl says “no fuck him! I’ve always got problems with him. We getting it!” The only reason I haven’t booted her was because of grandma. Saying fuk me is disrespectful & making you think your special & the rules don’t apply to you. An ID is a simple request. If you always have problems with me then maybe bring your ID. I have no desire to go to jail for anyone. Believe me…I lose my job & get jail time I’m hunting.
Their licence is expired but it's still a valid form of ID for age verification it just means they aren't allowed to drive under it.
They magically didn't suddenly get younger.
Yeah that isn't true at all. Expired ID is not a valid form of ID for anything. Age has nothing to do with it. If your ID is expired you are not buying alcohol at my store.
When I had worked at a gas station. I had some one had me a 10 year old expired ID. The guy looked early 30s, and the picture looked nothing like him. Now if it was a slightly expired ID. I would have no issues as long as the picture matches, but 10 years is a long time.
Suspended just means he can't get a drivers license. Can still get a state ID. Probably cheaper than the license anyway.
In Nebraska state IDs are free now since they’re required to vote
That's a good thing. I bet the boomers were clutching their pearls thinking about all the dems being able to vote. My opinion is I don't care who you vote for, just vote every time.
“Won’t that make it easier for the POORS to vote??!!” - boomers probably
Yup that is why Election Day is not a holiday, but this is Retail Hell so that doesn't matter!
I like this!
And he had more than enough time to obtain

If you have an ID you have an ID. Even if your license is no longer valid the state issued ID is. That would not leave you without an ID.

That sounds like US-level bullshit! I'm shocked!
What the fuck. What kind of backward shit is this? Why couldn't someone even have both?
Not worth the risk … the only time I made an exception was a guy who while he didn’t have a state id he had his prison id… it was for cigarettes and he looked like he’d had a rough day

Yeah that's what I'm thinking. NYS does issue non driver id cards.
Every state issues them. I promise you
Every state issues them

In Nebraska it’s valid if they also have their expired ID Folks. You can order your new ID three months before your birthday. *three months*
Yeah, if they have the expired ID and the temporary one then it would be fine.
It is handy to get your ID, say, 6 months before your birthday, so they don't both expire at the same time.
What?
For situations where you want to keep your driver's license separate from your ID. Your drivers license always expires on your birthday, but whenever you order or renew your ID separately, do it at a time other than your birthday.
Most places let you have a state ID or a license, not both.
I don't think that's true in all states....I'm in PA and I have an ID and was told I could also get a license at the same time.
Ope, you’re right. In Colorado I could only have one or the other
It was handy in California to have both.
Also fun is when that would be perfectly valid, but they don't have it. You say you lost it? Well, that paper IS your license rn, so you better be just as worried as if it were the plastic version.
That does suck, though.
I had a guy really trying to guilt me into selling alcohol on a 6 year expired license. Then asked if his friend could buy his stuff. Like, no, I’m not losing my job and getting fined so he can drink beer. People are nuts.

What does "fuck off" sound like in corpspeak?
"Ma'am, I am unable to assist you or your daughter any further due to a lack of suitable identification. I am now instructing you both to immediately leave the premises. Have a great day."
Not having a valid driver’s license would seem a logical reason to not rent you a car. Did she really expect you to do that?
Someone tried to buy alcohol with an ID that expired in 2015 I was fed uppp
I had one guy give me an attitude and then try to give me an ID that was 10 YEARS EXPIRED!! When I told him I couldn't take it, he gave me another one that was 5 years expired!! Passport is also valid. He could’ve also gone to the dmv and gotten a standard ID. It’s his own fault not yours.
If he cared enough, he would've got a state ID, lol.
If he lives in the USA he can get a county id then
I've never seen a county ID before. Only state IDs and DLs.
Get his ass 🔥
Had someone come in with an ID that expired in 2009.
I get why you didn’t sell it to him but it is ridiculous an expired ID is not valid for age identification. I understand why people need a current drivers license but it is not possible to age backwards. Normally I’d agree but bc he also had a suspended license and was belligerent, OP was probably keeping a DUI’r off the road.
I completely agree. It is all a $$$ grab.
Question: if the ID clearly states their age/date of birth, would it really matter if it's expired?
Legally it does. That way you can't give your expired ID to a friend who looks a little bit like you but is too young to drink/buy smokes/vape or whatever.
It's sooo dumb.

I bet he didn't walk there

In my state and the previous one I lived in any state citizen can get an ID. I’ve had to get them years ago because of license suspensions.
Their licence is expired but it's still a valid form of ID for age verification it just means they aren't allowed to drive under it. They magically didn't suddenly get younger.
It’s not a valid form of ID. It becomes invalid when it expires. It’s almost like that’s the point of an expiration date
Yeah that isn't true at all. Expired ID is not a valid form of ID for anything. Age has nothing to do with it. If your ID is expired you are not buying alcohol at my store.
Or any store that follows the law. Not worth a fine.
I agree people have to follow the law, but it's a dumb law. It's all about more money for the state.
State ID'S are free in the state I live in.
In my state there have apparently been stings using people over 21 with expired IDs so I would recommend caution.
God, they are so greedy and fucked up! Stings reek of entrapment, especially when the person is over 21! It is getting ridiculous...
By that logic I should be able to buy stuff with an expired credit card.
Nope.
You are wrong.
When I had worked at a gas station. I had some one had me a 10 year old expired ID. The guy looked early 30s, and the picture looked nothing like him. Now if it was a slightly expired ID. I would have no issues as long as the picture matches, but 10 years is a long time.
