Might be the worst performance i have seen from the reds in the last 14 years. Even my 11 month old has started a new game of dropping the ball after watching the last 3 games and thinking thats how the game is meant to be played.
Reds for woeful. Referee getting flack for the reds which were the right decisions, he should be getting flack for his one sided refereeing at the breakdown and him and the TMO completely missing a blatent shoulder charge on Lawson Creighton
Was incredibly lenient on almost anything MP did. Tackle off ball, knock on, offside on knock on, name it.
But we did get away with about 400 high tackles, so, you win some you lose some.
Too many comments to read so it's probably been said, but the ref made a mistake by not giving a straight red to tate. Because if that they were able to bring a player back when they shouldn't have. It meant a twenty minute red card instead of a thirty five minute one. So I'm glad that moana managed to pull through anyway.
Can sympathise with a player that feels the ref isn't protecting him from opposition actions (forearm to throat) but you're a professional rugby player, and giving retaliation that is worse than the initial act is never going to be let go and you should know better, you're the fucking captain. Learn from Darcy Swain on Jonny Hill.
Brilliant from Moana! I wish they could find a proper home so they can build a decent following.
Reds look a shadow of themselves from only a month ago
Tate was a stupid swinging arm in a tackle as revenge for getting a face push fend, Fraser was a lazy shoulder in the chin when he should have lowered himself.
Pretty dumb stuff from professionals
Awesome. So happy with a win. Tbf almost gave up on the season. Glad the boys proved me wrong. Seems like Whangarei at least has some people showing up for them so that's a bonus.
You’re right. I didn’t account for the new 20 minute red card rule. That makes it much harder to be aggrieved. I’ll just hang my hat on the last forward pass 😀
Match take time:
-The game was pretty awful in the 1nst half, but as the minutes passed, the game became more exciting to sit through even if the quality of the rugby being played said otherwise.
-Moana Pasifika were pretty decent in the first part, but they mostly had no answer to whatever the hell the Reds were doing in the 2nd half. They were lucky to have the other Havili to win the game for them.
-The Reds, on the other hand, were baffling to say the least. They were nonexistent in the 1st half. By the 2nd half, they had improved quite a bit (I'm being generous here) but that didn't stop two Wallabies getting red carded for the same offense. If I was Schmidt, I would have steered clear of the Reds.
-Tate... I much as I like you, what you did was some of the pettiest shit I've ever see someone do in a rugby pitch.
-William Havili best Havili.
-The referee was clearly a Moana supporter.
Anyway, this is all I have for now. See you all in the next match, and cheers for now.
Righto - reds fucked it themselves but... can I get a few more angles on that last offload?
...it looked pretty forward and no one seemed to even question it.
Reds deserve a big L there. Absolutely hopeless. Have really had our pants pulled down starting with that loss to the Force.
Great physicality from MP tonight, better team on the field today.
Forgive us for enjoying a little optimism, I've learned that joy and belief in your team are not appropriate feelings when you are an Australian Rugby supporter.
The ref gave Moana a lot of leeway in this game but you can't blame Moana for the Reds' two best players making dumb decisions.
I actually thought Kalani Thomas managed the game well and they performed better in the second half than the first, but having your two best players go off is pretty daunting to come back from
A couple of them yeah, and at the wrong time. But also gifted the reds fifteen minutes with an extra player. Tate should have been full redded rather than just the twenty minute red.
It's sorta messed up that McReight and Tater have the same punishment considering one's a technique mistake and the other is blatant thuggery but eh. The field review system works more often than it doesnt.
Stoppable Force (MP failing to score a single point with a man advantage for 30 minutes) vs Movable Object (the Reds first half + their second half discipline)
Clear yellow, maybe even a red because he's totally upright with no intent to wrap?
Sorta like the Jordie Barrett tackle in so much as there wasnt much time to change his position but he's upright the whole time, so likely a red
wait but why isn't that one a straight red on field? he's literally shoulder charged him square in the head? I'm feeling very old man yells at clouds right now
They check for a bunch of factors then give the red. Its so the game doesn't stop and the TMO checking is done behind the scenes so the audience can watch rugby continue.
Nothing really lost using this system and things gained from a thorough, non time impeded check.
so they get an extra player back because that wasn't a straight red on the field? but also what was the justification for it not being a straight red, as he literally swung his arm into a player on the floor's head?
Out of curiousity, in a scenario like this where an essential role is given a card, they subbed on the second halfback. Which position typically comes off first if the coach has to choose?
Generally a centre will be able to cover the responsibilities of a winger pretty well, and also be more adept at defending in the line. With a man off there will be a little more position fluidity, wingers are normally a bit more specialised bout their position. But it depends on the specific personnel on the field.
Do people not like Kalani Thomas? he was one of the best halfbacks playing in the NPC, I genuinely rate him. I'm jealous he's not a part of the NZ system
Definitely has the talent and great energy. Unfortunately he's come on a few times and failed to seal a game.
Hasn't got very good game management in terms of when to play fast/slow off the back
He's never looked very good at this level. He's young and lots of coaches rate him, so I'll give him the enefit of the doubt. But yeah he's not shown a lot so far.
yeah I wasn't going to whine because we're honestly playing like shit and have been undisciplined. but that had to be close to tackled without the ball.

Reds are certified frauds

Anyone record the cards? I missed both
Tate was a stupid swinging arm in a tackle as revenge for getting a face push fend, Fraser was a lazy shoulder in the chin when he should have lowered himself. Pretty dumb stuff from professionals
Awesome. So happy with a win. Tbf almost gave up on the season. Glad the boys proved me wrong. Seems like Whangarei at least has some people showing up for them so that's a bonus.
They go great against 13.
I'm pretty sure it was never thirteen despite what was being shown on the tv screen
You’re right. I didn’t account for the new 20 minute red card rule. That makes it much harder to be aggrieved. I’ll just hang my hat on the last forward pass 😀

Love hearing the cheehoos ring out from the crowd haha
Righto - reds fucked it themselves but... can I get a few more angles on that last offload? ...it looked pretty forward and no one seemed to even question it.
Might have been but was a poor ref decision not to give tate a full red, allowing someone to replace him after twenty
Looked pretty forward but if they pulled that back there would have been a riot by the seven people in the crowd. Dire all round.
Reds deserve a big L there. Absolutely hopeless. Have really had our pants pulled down starting with that loss to the Force. Great physicality from MP tonight, better team on the field today.
Reds crowning themselves as Champions in March is starting to look a little silly
Season isn’t over yet champ…
Forgive us for enjoying a little optimism, I've learned that joy and belief in your team are not appropriate feelings when you are an Australian Rugby supporter.
tHe lEs kiSs ErA bEgInS!!!1!1!
Just remember: no optimism allowed.
I thought it looked silly then.
Remember when we beat the Chiefs and took the Canes to extra time lol
Btw what has happened to the reds? Just completely shat the bed in the last month
Trying to be too cute, not doing the basics, way too many errors. Uru alone dropped the ball cold in their 22 4 or 5 times this game.
Drua esque in their implosion (but they defended better)
They really put the "Reds" in Reds
Low on quality but it was entertaining. Reds threw it away with indiscipline. Really pleased for MP though.
Lol. GG Moana, great they get a win at home. Reds need their less flashy, more winny team setup.
The ref gave Moana a lot of leeway in this game but you can't blame Moana for the Reds' two best players making dumb decisions. I actually thought Kalani Thomas managed the game well and they performed better in the second half than the first, but having your two best players go off is pretty daunting to come back from
Havili is turning into a really quality first five. Good to see
He is quality. Did you see him play for Tonga in the World Cup? He was very good
Yup rated him at the RWC, thought he was up there with Tonga’s best players
What the hell happened to the reds man
only got ourselves to blame for that one. Well done Pasifika.
Surely that last pass was forward ?
MP were clearly on the right side of the ref today, barely had anything called against them all game
nah reds don't deserve to win this one, poor flook I was pissed until I saw him drop in pain
Well deserved win for Moana, we played like fuckwits and don't deserve it.
WILLY HAVILI BEST HAVILI
BEST HAVILI SCORES!
Flook shot by a sniper
Playing with a dislocated shoulder for the last 10 minutes lol
rough
should have gone off after that injury earlier..looks like dislocation
Lol, the ref is gifting Moana penalties
A couple of them yeah, and at the wrong time. But also gifted the reds fifteen minutes with an extra player. Tate should have been full redded rather than just the twenty minute red.
lfg what a try
Well that was pretty good, I begrudgingly admit
Thank fuck for that.
Nice boys
WOW!!!!!!!!!!! HOLY FUCK!
Finz Up
This dude should never ref another professional game
At least neither of them tried to fight the crowd.
William Havili has been pretty good this year. I never thought he'd be the better Havili but this year he's clearly been the form brother
playing a fijian song again :D
So the Reds down to 13 players now?
14. 1st red was 20 minute.
Damn that penalty was tough. Side line ref could have maybe said something?
Its been said multiple times in this thread the reds tackling height today has been borderline dangerous. Enjoy ur red mate.
Both teams trying to lose. This neutral loves it.
Who of 'tahs 'saders will hold my beer this?
reds doing a drua with 2 redcards today lol
It's sorta messed up that McReight and Tater have the same punishment considering one's a technique mistake and the other is blatant thuggery but eh. The field review system works more often than it doesnt.
Bad technique and thuggery can cause equal damage though? Didn't see the Tate one, but anyone tackling like Mcreight did is asking to be sidelined
tayto and Wrighty have a wedding to go to next week or something?
Stoppable Force (MP failing to score a single point with a man advantage for 30 minutes) vs Movable Object (the Reds first half + their second half discipline)
coughing baby vs coughing baby
So the Reds have two captains who both got reds.... Somes up the match pretty well
Liam Wright is the other captain, he’s still on.
Liam Wright is the other captain
HIA for Havili? He seemed to be in quite some discomfort after that
upgraded to red, should have been red from the start
Bad hit but he is wrapping. Deserved red but doubt it’s too much of a suspension
REDS PLAYERS. STOP. DOING. STUPID. SHIT.
Red, yellow, who cares? They could get 10 red cards and Pasifika would still knock it on.
great TLDR for the game
Would be happy to be a Highlanders supporter atm
moana now need a miracle to win this ....
They have one
Whoever is playing the Reds in the next couple of weeks will be really happy
Kiwi teams the next 3 weeks for the Reds 😂
Clear yellow, maybe even a red because he's totally upright with no intent to wrap? Sorta like the Jordie Barrett tackle in so much as there wasnt much time to change his position but he's upright the whole time, so likely a red
Easy Red for the Red
The Reds best players just taking turns being grubs
😭
Reds don't make it easy for themselves.
wait but why isn't that one a straight red on field? he's literally shoulder charged him square in the head? I'm feeling very old man yells at clouds right now
Because straight red is only for serious foul play e.g. punch, headbutt, elbow, eye gouge. High tackles always start yellow for off field review
That's mental, I get for the 'borderline' yellow/reds but a shot like that should always be a full red
They check for a bunch of factors then give the red. Its so the game doesn't stop and the TMO checking is done behind the scenes so the audience can watch rugby continue. Nothing really lost using this system and things gained from a thorough, non time impeded check.
Some times I fucking hate rugby
we can't do anything right without doing wrong at the same time. We are the true neutral of rugby.
that's a red has to be unfortunately
Might get left off being the second guy in (I'm thinking positively).
Game over. Pasifika don't have another point in them. Hopeless in this second half.
Finally, some good fucking rugby
I reckon Jordie Petaia could be a really good player, he's improved a lot and has a good read on the game.
He’s starting to get more consistent, easy to forget how young he is still
fuck his collarbone
I LOVE SUPER RUGBY.
the ceiling of this red team is so fucking high and yet they are often in the basement
Much better coaching this season should help
Spoicy
Hunter Paisami has impressed in the second half. Best player on the pitch
brilliant!
Where were these hands in the first half? Couldn't even breathe and run at the same time then.
nah thats good stuff
That's good cricket
Pasifika have royally fucked this up.
This game really is going to come down to who wants to lose less.
so they get an extra player back because that wasn't a straight red on the field? but also what was the justification for it not being a straight red, as he literally swung his arm into a player on the floor's head?
Probably need to tweak the rules so that the tmo can also give full reds
All bunker Reds (as in yellow by the ref, but red from the TMO) are 20 minutes. Straight reds that are given from the ref lasts the full 80
He’s asking why it wasn’t a straight red to begin with
Fraser had been playing good at least
He's getting hoed from the ref. It's criminal the amount of jackals he's been denied
Out of curiousity, in a scenario like this where an essential role is given a card, they subbed on the second halfback. Which position typically comes off first if the coach has to choose?
a wing or a flanker (usually 6)
Wing
Good to know, i never grew up with rugby and would've guessed centers
Easier to defend in to out than vive versa
Generally a centre will be able to cover the responsibilities of a winger pretty well, and also be more adept at defending in the line. With a man off there will be a little more position fluidity, wingers are normally a bit more specialised bout their position. But it depends on the specific personnel on the field.
Would love to see Moana just meme their way into the finals through performances like this
Side note is anyone watching on skysports? Sky sport 1 and 2 saying no satellite connection but sll the other channels working fine lol
sky Uk shows the nz feed and its fine lol
Maybe its a sign for me to watxh more League now 😂😂 its working fine haha
How the hell is Joe Schmidt gonna fix this shit?
Not picking them is a good start.
pick more brumbies?
I saw like 3 offences in that lineout and none were pinged haha. Jumping across, not straight, playing the jumpers arm.
Also was no way near straight lol
Fuck off Creighton
Worse Brothers 5/8 in Red: Creighton or Dallan Murphy?
fuck the filth
Bring back the Stingrays
halfbacks getting red card, 2 weeks in a row..
I picked the Reds, I'm rooting for Moana - but jesus the ref's giving so many breaks to MP
So much good from reds cancelled out by a decent amount of stupid rugby. Why can't Aus teams (minus Brums) just play smart rugby 😭
You can't convince me that Campbell (I think) didn't deliberately kick that straight at the AR lmao
Surely that gets pinged? Late
Isn't that at least a penalty?
Reds are fuckin it up.
Is that bloke really onside?
and now it's the linesman's turn to cop one.
Fuck me can we hold on to the ball. I'd like to see dropped ball inside oppositions 22 stats
Do people not like Kalani Thomas? he was one of the best halfbacks playing in the NPC, I genuinely rate him. I'm jealous he's not a part of the NZ system
Definitely has the talent and great energy. Unfortunately he's come on a few times and failed to seal a game. Hasn't got very good game management in terms of when to play fast/slow off the back
Never seems to click for the Reds
He's never looked very good at this level. He's young and lots of coaches rate him, so I'll give him the enefit of the doubt. But yeah he's not shown a lot so far.
I always wonder how long a player who cant catch the ball and kills momentum 4+ times a game would last in an NZ team.
Haha I don't actually know who you're talking about
Ofa's made a decent career out of those stats.
Is constant knock ons a game plan?
Pasifika don't look capable of scoring another try, even with a man advantage. This will go to the wire.
So the Reds have been really shit ever since JOC called for a Reds heavy Wallabies team
Ptsd from Eddie, none of them want selected
Kiss out
Jock's been good in the 2nd half so far.
At least this is still better than the first half
Paisami 🤝 not being able to hold the ball.
Classic Paisami
GG Moana, Creighton on
Uh oh Creighton has arrived
Offside
Just tuned in. Who got a red card and why?
Tate, swinging arm to head.
tato the potato
Tate. Swinging arm to a players head in cleanout. Real silly stuff.
Is that not clearly offside? Lmao Went straight to the MP player
I'm 99% sure that's a penalty about half the time. I guess the coin flipped the other way.
Surely that was an early tackle on Seru Uru
Flook looking like me out there tonight
fucking christ campbell
MP got away with so much there Coming in the side, playing the ball in the ruck, and an early tackle
I can’t believe what they’ve been allowed to do in our mauls also
I traded Kalani Thomas in the fantasy last week because he was never getting any gametime Tate swinging arm'd my fantasy budget too
seems to me he was tackled before catching that
yeah I wasn't going to whine because we're honestly playing like shit and have been undisciplined. but that had to be close to tackled without the ball.
I'm sure the ref will go back for the early tackle!
Selfish selfish...
At least with Tate off he can’t tap and go
And Vunivalu is off!!
Life's little victories.
Uru is such a wild card, absolutely no one on the field from either team knows what he's about to do,
