It's even worse as a job hunter. I'm starting to get full on texts from scammers wanting to be a "payroll assistant" claiming I'd get checks to put into my personal bank account and then would send to them lol.
I am an instructional designer and can confirm - when I look on there for jobs, it never sends me ones that actually match my resume or qualifications.
Iāve had the opposite experience with indeed. Spent $400 and every candidate it vetted was unqualified for the position I put. Granted, Iām not 100% confident it was indeedās fault since the developers that applied were lying on their resumes. So maybe I just got a bad hand?
Itās possible, but I only know as a job seeker that real employees are posting jobs. That might not mean much for you, but if a job seeker doesnāt trust Ziprecruiter like myself, you would be wasting even more money continuing with Ziprecruiter. I donāt trust monster or careerbuilder. I barely trust LinkedIn job posts, but I do trust Inmail to a degree.
Perhaps reaching out on LinkedIn could save you some money and build up a network of professionals too.
Indeed is really expensive too... but we use it sometimes. A lot of our best hires came through referrals though. Also posting on Facebook got us some too. I think maybe I've hired like 2 or 3 from indeed and like 15 from other places. A good amount reach out over Instagram too.
It's a scam for job seekers too
Mostly its used as a resume harvesting tool
For example, they see which resume makes it to the interview stage then sells the opportunity to another person to show up for the interview and be hired but the qualifications aren't actually his. Happened a lot with our India remote software hires so we make everyone take our technical test even if the resume say they have "senior engineer" experience. You'd be surprised how many "seniors" fail basic programming stuff like parsing strings if we quiz them during the interview but pass if we sent them a test to hand in later.
Software consultant here. Itās a big misconception on what constitutes a āsenior software engineerā. Many times simple stuff like string manipulation isnāt even on their radar for responsibilities. Usually once you get to that stage you are more focused on architecture or leading teams than spending time writing small bits of code. And Iāll be the first to admit I have to constantly look up and refresh myself on some basics that I havenāt touched in a long time. Itās not as clear cut as saying āif you canāt remember how to do a substring in swift why am I hiring you?ā. These tasks are soo simple to just refresh yourself on that many programmers just donāt prioritize them in memory in favor of the actual real library calls that will save real time.
There is an infinite amount that a senior dev has to remember that docking them on something they can look up in seconds isnāt the right path forward. Itās one of the reasons hiring devs is soo hard. Heck, I even made the mistake of hiring a guy who used to work at Disney for a client. He answered all my technical questions perfectly and his resume was spotless. He then proceeded to destroy my codebase with anti-patterns and made it into spaghetti code.
But, I will say that these hiring sites still donāt work. I spent $400 on indeed and not a single āvettedā candidate met my requirements. I had much better luck with referrals.
I suspect what the parent poster was whining about were the "senior devs" which don't even know what parsing a substring means let alone how to use a substring function.
There's a big difference between someone who can say, "if you want me to break that comma delimited string into chunks, I'd take a moment to see if the language had a pre-built function to do that, otherwise, I'd step through the string one character at a time looking for commas" and someone who doesn't know where to start. Bonus points if they can talk about quoted strings and the like.
Yes, that would've been an acceptable answer to say I would "use substring or an equivalent and google the syntax". Parsing strings was just an example, my point was some candidates lacked foundational knowledge even if they no longer need to write code thenselves
I clicked into a ZipRecruiter job lead from a google search. I must have logged in with google or something, because now I'm getting about 8 or 10 email messages a day "reminding" me to apply. I was mostly looking to see what was there, not actively job seeking.
Trust me do not use them. Their resumes are blank af, their customer support blames you for the problems, I would rather use indeed (expensive but works) or another resource or some local job board.
Source: my work tried them and they're totally lacking.
Yea I got hired thru indeed on 2 out of the 3 jobs Iāve had . Even got a job offer from the federal govt thru a job I found on indeed. Indeed and LinkedIn are my go to.
lol
all of these things are scams i learned back in the monster dot com days that these job search sites were a way for scammers to pull resumes and gather data on ppl in order to job cat-phish them and all things nefarious
All these job sites are all scams littered with scammers.
Government needs to lay down the ban hammer or something because all of this is just a massive legalized crime ring that for some stupid reason no one cares about and people continually get robbed over and over. /rant
Be careful with indeed.com as well. Tons of fake job postings posted. 4 āfakeā job postings for our Firm. Both employer and applicant data being sold by both ziprecruiter.com and indeed.com.
ZipRecruiter is a complete waste of time & money. Looking for a licensed electrician in Maine and got all overseas responses, even though I specifically checked the box for US citizens only.
I just ran identical paid ads on Indeed, ZipRecruiter, and LinkedIn. I paid $100+ to both ZR and LI forā¦not a single applicant. 2 or 3 views, even. Iām not sure what I paid for. After I cancelled the LinkedIn ad, they charged me an extra $40 for reasons as obscure as their regular billing.
I got a dozen applicants for a specialized job within 5 days on Indeed. Interviews are stacked out tomorrow (wish us luck!).
Employees should always jump ship for something better. Zip Recruiter is def scammy, but not solely to blame for high turnover. Itās usual more internal.
My experience with Zip Recruiter has been pretty positive, though I had a monthly subscription. The quality of the candidates that I got through Zip Recruiter was significantly better than Indeed, which had a lot of what seemed like bots or fake applicants. I'm talking same resume, different name and email address. I also got a smaller number of resumes but they were of better quality.
I've done free trials of ZipRecruiter, Indeed, and some others and have never had any kind of success. Glad we never formally signed up. These platforms make it so easy to apply that they're used often used by welfare recipients to satisfy their "looking for work" requirements, if applicable in your state, to continue receiving the handout. We had dozens of applications and sent dozens of interview requests and, not exaggerating, every single one no-call, no-showed on the interview. I don't even bother posting those places anymore when we have an opening.
I disagree with you. I was on unemployment myself. Getting $2600-3500 per month better than getting $1200 per month. Also, some companies force you to jump through the hoops by filling out long applications with references, just entering the same information from you already uploaded resume, etc. Basically some jobs you click to send resume and it sends you to external (company website and then you have to enter all info again).
As a developer, this is embarrassing you can't contract out an individual or web agency to set you up a recruit portal or application portal. I want to feel bad for you but these corporations prey on idiots. You being the misinformed idiot who wants a wave of recruits for 100 dollars eat shit and kick rocks you lazy scumbag.
L0000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 20 DOLLARS A RESUME YOU HEMMORAGE MONEY WORSE THAN I DESTROY BRIDGES.
I used them for about 2 weeks last month to find an employee and had no issues. Itās not the cheapest solution, but I found the exact person that I needed.
Won't lie this is kinda depressing for me. I've been applying to endless amounts of jobs on ziprecruiter and indeed. Gotten no bites except a whole lotta scams
Bill Burr is probably the last dude that should be selling zip recruiter. Like wouldnāt it be nice Bill if the shit you tried to sell us wasnāt trash?
So I only use Indeed for job searching. I canāt even comprehend using any other job board. Like I know they are out there, but for some reason, I donāt feel the need to look outside of Indeed.
Interesting. I was able to sign up to only pay for the months I was active. I think it ended up at 2 months. We got over 80 applicants, we ended up hiring 2 instead of 1 as they were both a great fit. The website was easy to use, and saved me a ton of time. YMMV.
ziprecruiter is a haven for shitty and scammy job posts as well.
Iām an employer now and wouldnāt dare use them because the employers on there seem to be a revolving door with high over turn meaning $500 a month is a decent deal for them rather than Indeedās pay-per-applicant type structure.
I remember I got a charge of a few hundred dollars. I immediately stopped our ad, but I was too busy to fight the charge at the time. Iām not even sure what it was for because I didnāt get that many applications, certainly none that resulted in an interview.
ZipRecruiter is the worst recruitment platform Iāve used. Their systems are so awful, might as well be a scam. Indeed seems to have a way larger and legitimate pool of applicants.
The applicant pool on ZipRecruiter felt consistently smaller, and none of the applicants were responsive to outreach. Itās just dog shit.

Yeah, I posted a job with them and they zapped my credit card for over $600 and I had to report it to my CC company.
You got zipped!
Zip zapped!
I just ugly laughed
Same me..poor.šAny news update by your CC now ?

All I get are low paying jobs, and I have an MBA. Actually happens on most sites. They love to low-ball me.
You look like a perfect fit for Walmart. They are hiring near you! Great benefits and pay starting up to $15/hr.
Who are you, my mother? "Chick-fil-A Is hiRiNg for $18 an hour! You could go work there!"

Is it owned by match.com? š
My favorite part of using OK Cupid has been them showing me the same 10 people I've already swiped left on.
Indeed is more reliable as my experience as a job seeker. It will likely be your go to as a SMB owner as well.
Yup, Iāve hired plenty of employees through indeed and will for sure be sticking with them in the future.

Hi I applied at ziprecruiter.com also one company shelby sod emailed me that I passed the application and I am going on orientation

ZIP recruiter is even a scam for those looking for jobs. Trash company. I hope this Reddit post can help save someone time!
you can post on indeed for free.

Iām sorry you found this out the hard way. Lesson learned for future: all it takes is a 30 second google to learn that itās a scammy company.
Fck that. Thanks for informing us.

Yep...wonder if we ask scammer if they hiring at this point.
where is the HQ of the ZipRecruiter?
you can sue them,if you think you can prove the scam.
Look what Crunnhbase shows `ZipRecruiter has raised $769M`
What's a better alternative to Zip? I'm looking for a new job to supplement my income and I'm on Zip and Indeed.
Iāve hired probably 20 employees with indeed.
Thanks! I'll do more there.
Hi if you want to include me I'm looking for a job
Indeed started doing something similar - had to dispute a $800 charge last year. Not sure where to post job ads anymore.
