I saw a pink, violet/red spot at the bottom during totality

Yes, same here. HUGE! A reflective surface maybe?

MissLyss29

Yes in Cleveland Ohio I saw a small violent spot on the bottom but my husband could not see it. We were not using binoculars or anything

Solar prominence, according too the group of astronomers I’ve been hanging out with today. We got some pictures of it.

My family and I witnessed this as well. No clue. Blew my mind. (Aerospace engineer here)

I saw this too, an orange bright light near the bottom of the eclipse. Saw it in 2017 and immediately recognized that that was something different this time lol

Solar prominence "Remarkable! "During the recent solar eclipse, skywatchers were treated to a rare and mesmerizing sight: a prominence, also known as a red dot, emanating from the sun during totality. Prominences, which are occurrences of hot gas or plasma trapped in magnetic field loops extending from the sun’s surface, are not uncommon, but they are typically small in size. The chance of observing one during an eclipse is noteworthy, though not exceptionally rare. However, witnessing a prominence large enough to be seen with the naked eye during an eclipse is considered a remarkable event."
