Or the data and findings they are able to collect from one of the most serious cases of CTE in history leads to scientists finding a methodology for healing and reversing brain injuries
I remember thinking he could be the greatest to ever do it. The craziest part is I genuinely thought he was a quiet, good dude who kept his head down and just worked. How wrong I was !
What's really crazy about Jerry Rice's numbers are that at age 30ish, AB still would have had to double his yards and TDs after age 30 to catch Rice. Even with his amazingly prolific 2012 to 2018 period, he was still only halfway there despite that Rice played in an era far less favorable to QBs and WRs.
It wasn't just the numbers, it was his STYLE of play. There are other shifty receivers with good hands, but I've never seen anyone quite like him. Plus his chemistry with Ben was automatic
It was incredible. I miss it so much. I’ve watched a couple videos about how they would improvise routes and Ben would throw into a soft zone kind of anticipating that AB would understand to float into the more open area.
I miss it so much!!
Yes rice has the best stats given the time period he played in and length of his career
However, from a pure talent, skill, and ability perspective, it is 100% arguable that AB was better
I would take prime AB over prime Rice on my roster every single time
Ha! Yea, he was, those first couple years he was just unbelievable. And it seemed like he was flying under the radar until he started leading the league in receptions. Just can't stand thinking about the "what if's) with that team
Man he was so fucking good. It makes me genuinely sad how the last few years of his career went. He’s a horrible person, so fuck him, but he was so fun to watch.
Such a good receiver, but whenever I think of him I just think of 3 moments.
1) Kick return where he kicked the kicker in the face.
2) The burfict hit on him.
3) Doing star jumps while he left the NFL for good
Walked around the house naked while a woman he hired to paint something for him was there IIRC. Threw gummy penises at another woman outside his house. Tweets shit like "Caitlin Clark looks like she keep it hairy". Crybabied his way off the Steelers because he was butthurt Juju won team mvp and it wasn't all about himself anymore. Tried to fight and/or scream at Dick LeBeau in practice and Troy had to step in. He threw furniture out the window towards people at his backyard pool and almost hit a little kid down there at the time.
His shithead ways are part of why despite his obvious talent, he ended up at Central Michigan instead of a bigger program, and why he wasn't drafted until the 6th round. The word was out that he was a difficult person before he even got to the NFL.
I have a life outside of social media. All I've seen is him being crazy, I haven't seen him do anything that would warrant him being a called a horrible person.
He’s had warrants out for his arrest for unpaid child support.
He threw furniture off a hotel balcony when kids were in the pool
He threw rocks at his moving company and didn’t pay them
Warrant out for domestic violence
Had charges pressed against him for battery
Those are just the main points. Doesnt take into account
-tweeting he bets Caitlin Clark “keeps it hairy”
-calling the raiders owner a cracker
-making jokes about fucking tom Brady’s ex wife
-farting in a doctors face and recording it
- he was also accused of sexual assault
-kicked out of FAU before football even began
One that really pissed me off. He purchased an Arena football league team. Got a ton of press when he insinuated that he'd suit up for a game... Then he stopped making payments, getting the team kicked out of the league.
This put many people out of a job... Then it comes out that he never even paid his players for their last game anyway. Read in to it. Pretty wild ride.
Throwing a couch out of a window and nearly killing someone? Sexually harassing a woman in Dubai? There's also a story of a doctor saying that AB purposefully farted in his face during a physical. There's definitely more stories.
There’s a reason he was at CMU and not at a bigger school because of grades and attitude. He was always a shitty-ish person but his gridiron glory turned him into a god in his eyes
One hit does not change a guy's personality *that* much. He was already an asshole, if the hit did anything it just made him a little bit more of an asshole.
It can. Source: my girlfriend is an occupation therapist.
Daily she deals with people recovering from head injuries. She always says it's impact to the front that can change personality and make someone erratic and violent.
Not an excuse for anything. Just a reason. She's seen the hit and believes it was enough to cause the changes.
I'm not going to argue with what your girlfriend said but there's something to take into account here. She's dealing with people *recovering* from head injuries, she's not seeing how they were before the injury. A head injury absolutely can bring out tendencies that a person already had and make them worse, which in this case, is what may have happened with AB. We know he was a legitimate asshole *before* the burfict hit, so I'm sorry but, no, the hit didn't make the changes.
She deals with the family too. She often has to explain sudden changes in personality. Sometimes family members can't understand why someone is so different.
We can get into this till the cows come home because there are a lot of counter arguments even to this comment about family members but at the end of the day I don't think it's worth it nor do I believe a lengthy conversation about it on a football sub is appropriate. I'll just say that I am not sold on the fact that 1 hit can change a guy to the extent that people believe it did with AB and move on.
It's clear you are not even remotely close to having read up on brain injuries and the extent to which they can up-end a persons entire life.
I'm sorry, but "1 hit can't change a person that much" has no basis whatosever. Its just your naive, biasd view on something that actually does scientific research behind it
His 6 consecutive seasons with 100+ catches is arguably the most dominant thing we have ever seen a Steeler do. There was a time when he was just unstoppable, and that period was a really long peak for any player at any position
NFL Network has been playing a lot of older Steelers games over the past several wks. I almost forget how good of a football player he was… at everything: running routes, blocking, etc. No denying the dude was great. Sadly he was sidetracked, for whatever reason, but was destined to be in the HOF
AB is still arguably the best receiver I ever had the chance to see play. He's definitely in the same breath as T.O. and Randy Moss in my opinion and would match those numbers if he would of got the chance to start his rookie year and would of played as long as them. Man he is so fun to watch.
Good Ole Mr Big Chest. could have been an all time hero. could have been a legend. instead, he had like 5 great years with a top 10 quarterback then went cookoo. Instead we'll all still be talking about Hines Ward and Santonio Holmes. Receivers who took us to the big show and finished.
Not ashamed to admit I still have his Jersey lol
I know time will come around and it'll be cool again to wear his jersey...
I mean his time with Steelers is legendary. Hate him or love him...
AB is still our guy.
No but his head wasn't that massive and ego wasn't that sensitive either as when he was basically the top receiver in the NFL. Nothing about his actions needs a head injury to explain
Most dominant receiver I've ever watched. AB litterally required to CBS and over the top safety help and was still open. I truly believe he is the best receiver to ever play, his ego was his ceiling and he will never be looked at the same as the mosses and rices of the world. By pound for pound the most dominant wr ever.
I'll always miss the countless times that he'd do something unbelievable, and I'd think that there was no way that he actually got two feet down or secured a ball but that it would be amazing if he had. Then, they'd show the replay and he did, in fact, make the play.
I'd take end of game, one drive to win, prime Ben and AB over absolutely any other duo, without hesitation.
He was just so damn good, at any moment watching you knew he could just pull some ridiculous move or catch out of nowhere and shift a game. Such a shame and sad with him just going off the rails. Dude was just so special, it was awesome seeing him play.
Listen‼️……. you don’t understand this man was destined for all Time greatness. His motto, back then was “head up chest up eyes up prayed up. How perfect is that? I don’t know if it was the berfect hit but something happened to that man definitely changed
Eccentric to say the least, but certainly and obviously could be it misguided if he had a stronger support system, and a healthy minded responsible village of people around him he could have been more of a staple for his neighborhood and family
I believe to this day that Tom Brady was part of a plot to get AB on the patriots for cheap. Brown got his and Tom Brady got his, that always rubbed me the wrong fucking way.
He would've gone down as one of the goats if his ego didn't get to him. Seriously. He was only 5k yards behind Fitzgerald for second place and I believe if he stayed with Pittsburgh or didn't go crazy he would've caught him and in 5 less years playing than him. Oh and 500 less receptions. He should've passed Randy, to, Fitzgerald and some other greats on his way to a gold jacket. Now he'll probably be blackballed from the Hof. I don't think people talk about that part enough. There's no way he's a first ballot shoe in like he would've been. We seen TO miss out and I guarantee we see him waiting years to get in unless his image changes and he's getting humanitarian awards left and right and coaches a team to a Superbowl. Neither of those is going to happen. I think that's right
Imagine if he donates his brain at the end of his life and they don’t even find any evidence of CTE.
Hahahaaaaaa 😂😂😂
Sometimes people can just be crazy.
Mr. Be Crazy
A B Crazy
That would be breaking news on CTESPN
["I got a little bag of sand up there now!"](https://www.dailymotion.com/video/xqrtlm)
Mr. Big Confuser
Winning response right here.
Hes been crazy since HS/College
That would be so incredibly funny but sad. I think AB is just out there.
He just said to himself “fuck it”
Or the data and findings they are able to collect from one of the most serious cases of CTE in history leads to scientists finding a methodology for healing and reversing brain injuries

Oh definitely, I just loved AB those early years. Never would have actually been the GOAT. Could been my goat tho lol
I miss it so much!!
didn’t use stickum like Jerry did as well tho
Yes rice has the best stats given the time period he played in and length of his career However, from a pure talent, skill, and ability perspective, it is 100% arguable that AB was better I would take prime AB over prime Rice on my roster every single time
He was a hard worker, that's the shame of it. He was dedicated and driven and also cuckoo for cocoa puffs.
Ha! Yea, he was, those first couple years he was just unbelievable. And it seemed like he was flying under the radar until he started leading the league in receptions. Just can't stand thinking about the "what if's) with that team
He was all of that during his CUEUPU days
I think it’s fairly obvious he has significant brain damage from several hits.
For real though no joke
I think you were right and he was those things until he just wasn’t anymore
The first couple of years I didn't even know what his voice sounded like. Just saw that wild-eyed clearly insane smile.
Always smiling, man those were the days !
My life’s goal is to get called a cracker to my face by AB.
I nominate yinzreddup for CTESPN Cracker of The Day
It is my DREAM for AB to post me as “cracker of the day”.
Mods can we get cracker of the day as a flair?
Mr Bestowed Crackerdom
Isn't he on that thing where you can pay celebs to say things?
Cameo. And idk if he is or not, but I want my cracker moment to be genuine, not paid for.
Man he was so fucking good. It makes me genuinely sad how the last few years of his career went. He’s a horrible person, so fuck him, but he was so fun to watch.

4. when he ran full speed into the field goal post with his nuts
Lol, that was good too. He got a flag for that
5. When he took off his pads mid-game in Tampa Bay and just walked off the field.
That was #3 lol
That was number 3. I forgot the team. Just remembered it was against the jets.
Idk...that goal line reach to beat the Ravens on Christmas is my top AB moment.
Catch that saved Christmas. EPIC
Pulling his dick out in Dubai didn't make the list? Surprising.
Hey we've all done it
He did that? Lol
Reverse grip too
I remember spitting my drink out when he hit the front flip in the end zone!
How is he a horrible person? I thought he was just batshit crazy.

Don’t forget about him pulling out his penis in the public pool chasing girls trying to tag them with it.
Troy had to be physically separated from maybe actually killing this MFer
He’s said and done some fucked up shit.
Like what?
He likes to go the speed limit next to someone else doing the exact same speed on the highway
What a monster. I get it now.
Have you lived under a rock lol

We can fix him.
you wish; we wish.... ;o)
Hell no.
In think the 10s will be looked back on as a major disappointment for not winning a Super Bowl. You look back at some of those rosters...crazy.
Pretty sad that he never won a SB with the Steelers. So much talent on the team in those few years. Couldn't fuckin get it together.

On a serious note he was my all time favorite receiver
I’ll always like AB. Met him like 3 times at camp and he was always down for pics and autographs.
His 6 consecutive seasons with 100+ catches is arguably the most dominant thing we have ever seen a Steeler do. There was a time when he was just unstoppable, and that period was a really long peak for any player at any position
If only i could hear the audio over this stupid fuckin song

I miss his stupid fucking dance in the end zone after scoring a ridiculous TD. Why'd you have to turn into MBC :(
Not ashamed to admit I still have his Jersey lol I know time will come around and it'll be cool again to wear his jersey... I mean his time with Steelers is legendary. Hate him or love him... AB is still our guy.
I have a jersey also; it's stuffed in a back corner of the closet. Keep me posted as to when it is cool to get it out, please.
No one can convince me that his downfall was caused by anything other Vontaze Burfict knocking him the fuck out.
Even with his issues before that going back to pre-NFL?
He wasn’t nearly as bad as he was when he left
No but his head wasn't that massive and ego wasn't that sensitive either as when he was basically the top receiver in the NFL. Nothing about his actions needs a head injury to explain
Crazy knows crazy
me too; when he was sane.
I’ll never forget how amazing he was with us. Especially spartan kicking that punter.
Most dominant receiver I've ever watched. AB litterally required to CBS and over the top safety help and was still open. I truly believe he is the best receiver to ever play, his ego was his ceiling and he will never be looked at the same as the mosses and rices of the world. That adjustment on the catch at :50 is crazy. Kirkpatrick had absolutely no chance. Insane understanding between Ben and AB on that one.
He gave us so many great performances but that last one vs New Orleans is unmatched
He was good till he got knock stupid
The song is generally good but it's an awful choice for an NFL highlight reel lmao
Sad, sad ending
That crazy motherfucker was the best I've ever watched play and I'm old.
This is objectively true
He was just so damn good, at any moment watching you knew he could just pull some ridiculous move or catch out of nowhere and shift a game. Such a shame and sad with him just going off the rails. Dude was just so special, it was awesome seeing him play.
I was at the SNF game against Green Bay where he had the sideline catch, just incredible. had the most fun as a fan watching him on the Steelers
An Absolute unstoppable fucking BEAST in his prime. Sad how it ended.
Listen‼️……. you don’t understand this man was destined for all Time greatness. His motto, back then was “head up chest up eyes up prayed up. How perfect is that? I don’t know if it was the berfect hit but something happened to that man definitely changed

You must not live in reality if you think there's anything wrong with what I said.
Call God bro
I believe to this day that Tom Brady was part of a plot to get AB on the patriots for cheap. Brown got his and Tom Brady got his, that always rubbed me the wrong fucking way.
AB did nothing on that Pats team and got cut. He won a ring with Brady in tampa
He was cut for behavioral issues, not his play. And he still ended up following Brady to Tampa which kinda supports my point.
You mean this humble hard working dude that had this as his first commercial? https://youtu.be/jdCaSWHjXNA?si=i7vUPZpgDNW_NG8i
Since he's chosen to retire as a raider. He should be stricken from this sub
Painnnnn
Yeah I miss him too
Makes me incredibly sad. Second favorite jersey to sport.
The killer b era was some of the best football
No duh he was great at creating separation. My man has 3 legs. *

49 seconds schooled!
It was all great until he went bonkers.
CTE is real.
So I'm really interested in seeing how that part of his career plays out but yeah one of the biggest what ifs simply because he had a HOF career with the Steelers.
Never the same after that hit from burfict.
Wow. You some how made this vikings fan more sad than the Vikings ever could.
BOOMIN to cte
Is there a theory of the case as to what happened to him?
I think AB is in this very subreddit watching us, his children, with a fatherly smile.
Arguably my favorite steeler to watch of all time. I’ll never forget always standing up and doing his dumb ass little dance when he scored touchdowns. https://preview.redd.it/9bknto1v8pwc1.jpeg?width=650&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=40dbc23943860e57a2ea5f2a4bf75f79410765f2

Most of those clips are pre Burfict hit
Really makes me hate the bengals even more.
I hate that he’s my all time favorite Steeler
We all miss hims
I wonder how much validity there is to the idea that if AB wasn’t taken out by Vontaze Burfict he would have been a much more likable player. I haven’t heard of any drama regarding AB prior to that hit.
Were you not paying attention? There were several by our past standards, but due to his talent he was given a pass for the diva things he did.
:(
Best thing on Twitter these days tbh
Not even a joke. My understanding of CTE grew so much watching his downfall after that Burfict hit. Insane what it can do.
He was so clutch never once missed one over the shoulder catch. He is the best. So disappointed to see how things went
Jackass
Thankfully we had him for 10 years. I do miss who he was and how much he contributed. You couldn't cover him at his peak. He was insanely skilled and his work ethic unmatched. Could've possibly broke Jerry Rice's record(s)
He was a quiet hard working dude, it wasn’t the hit that messed him up, it was the $$$$
Why? You miss the drama? The dumbassery? The failed career? The fighting among his teammates? Or all the bs on how he left the team and afterward?
Jesus F’n Christ… its like longing for a past girlfriend. She was a trainwreck. A literal piece of shit. Garbage. Get over her already.
Yeah, but she was so fucking HOT.
I don’t miss him, I miss what could have been if he didn’t go fucking crazy.
He blew it
Fuck this asshole
AB in the CUEUPU days was amazing. He was always a great player but he was also a good person back then. Chest Up, Eyes Up, Prayers Up! I think that's right
He was so fucking good.. then Vontez ruined him with that hit. Thats when it all went downhill
God this song is insufferable garbage
Tony Toe Tap was HIM
I still truly feel like that Cincy hit changed him, or accelerated whatever the hell was going on.
Dude is dumb
Are you fucking high right now? You should be stripped of your TJ sub Flair…😢
lol he was our best wr in the last decade. I think it’s fair to miss seeing him on the team, or at least the good times.
You ain’t wrong… I’m still butt hurt… 🤣🤣
