It’s been made clear by Steelers coaches and even Rooney multiple times their intention is to move Jones to LT

SMD_35

So we drafted a LT to move to RT this year

Halvey15

That happens a lot.

SMD_35

Yeah players flip sides all the time. It’s how you end up with a Kevin Dotson situation

StrictlyHobbies

I used to play tackle. The good ones can flip, it’s not a huge deal.

SMD_35

I’m sure you were a JV all star

StrictlyHobbies

I wasn’t good but I played with lots of good tackles. If they are good they can flip, I don’t know why of all things that is upsetting you.

Far-Campaign-3790

Gotta be careful talking about being an athlete on the internet. Uncoordinated nation will come for you. It’s like the Super Bowl for them.

StrictlyHobbies

You’re absolutely correct 😂

jpb59

Jesus Christ you gotta chill

Halvey15

Guys move from LT to RT every year. Your best tackle usually plays the left side. Guys getting drafted in the first round are generally the best on their college teams, but not always the best on whatever NFL team they go to. I have my concerns with this pick, but him potentially having to switch sides is not one of them.

ClemPFarmer

Better to draft the best lineman on the board and move him than dip down to find a right tackle.

heavymedicine

That is probably the view/plan as we sit today.. understand this kid was a top 10 talent before injury concerns arose

SMD_35

Older, injury concerns, position questions, I would’ve gone a different direction

Brain_Glow

Good for you. But there’s probably a reason you’re sitting at home right now fucking around on reddit and Khan is sitting in the draft room earning a fat paycheck.

andyroo84

SMD

GoEatFriedFudge

Yes we drafted an LT to move to RT. Fautanu wasn't protecting blindside his 2 yrs at LT, and he won't at RT. He's got more range, motor, and athleticism to move over to RT.

TurkeythePoultryKing

Worth noting that Fautanu played LT for a left handed QB.

SMD_35

Less about protecting a hand than doing everything the opposite way. It’s been described as wiping with your off hand.. which is not quite as easy as it sounds

TurkeythePoultryKing

Well Personally I think Fautanu is going to be the LT, but that is not the consensus of this sub. His skill set is not typical of the “road grader” Right Tackle template. He moves extremely well laterally, he has long arms, and his feet and hands are quick. Either way, Fautanu is a welcomed upgrade from Dan Moore.

jrzfeline

Just like last year

Sonickill7

Fautanu has 5 position flexibility on the offensive line. That's why he's special. He can play any position. So he'll probably start at right tackle and move inside if needed.

khub772

Rich man’s Legursky?

bowman022

This isn’t like we drafted a QB to play middle linebacker.

SMD_35

Yeah it’s like drafting a RG and sticking him at LG. Like we did with Dotson. Gave up on an all-pro guard

[deleted]

Except they are two different players in two different situations, and nothing is certain yet. How can you be this miserable on draft day? We got a versatile, stud offensive lineman. We didn’t draft Clelin Ferrell in the top 5. Relax and see what happens.

ANALxCARBOMB

Because everyone in this sub melts down when their specific and absurd opinions aren’t justified, you new here? lol

[deleted]

This is why I get shit faced on draft night. So I’m happy no matter what 😂

ClemPFarmer

Fautanu can move to RT or play guard and maybe even center. He’s athletic, versatile and smart. I think the offensive side just got their Cam Heyward type of leader. I love this pick!

atlfirsttimer

He's a multi positional offensive linemen. Probably too small to be a full time tackle

NedKelly88

He has the 3rd longest wingspan out of the tackles taken in the first round. Even longer than Alt who is 6"8. Interesting to see how he handles RT.

SMD_35

I’m simply asking what position. Did we draft a LT to move to RT this year or last year?

justihor

We don’t know. That’s why they love positional flexibility. You never know when injuries will happen, so it’s best to have a room full of guys that have experience at different positions and let the dominoes fall.

basil1025

Dude is a fucking footballer who doesn't give a shit about that diva shit. Wants to run over people. Fuck your social media this dude just wants to hit people. He's a Pittsburgh Steeler.

SMD_35

I like the player a lot, don’t get me wrong. Just don’t know where he plays

cosmiccouple1125

Are you willingly this dense?

SMD_35

Don’t look now, but even the Steelers aren’t entirely sure where he will play. Not sure why I’m the bad guy for asking the same question

Wish__Crisp

This is 100% false since they already stated they drafted him to play tackle. He’ll probably compete for the RT job and Jones takes LT. It’s not hard to understand at all.

SMD_35

100% false but no one knows which tackle spot he’ll play

Tight_Geologist_9750

You already have an answer if Jones can play RT, you have all of camp to see if Fautanu can play RT and you shift Jones back to LT. You took the best linemen available and now the coaches can put the best line out there. Every C is still on the board going into day 2, it is a really good pick IMO. And you still have your third round picks to trade for Courtland Sutton to address the WR room while you look for a center tomorrow.

SleestakLightning

Fautanu will be the RT and BroJo will move to LT.

isfrying

And that's a good thing, right?

SleestakLightning

Really can't go wrong either way.

isfrying

I'm happy with BroJo moving back to LT and what I hear about Fautanu. Just wondering what your thoughts were.

SleestakLightning

I didn't think he'd be a tackle but they do and they know more than me so I love the pick.

isfrying

Right on. I basically check Sleestak then Labriola for my info, so this pleases me...

SleestakLightning

I'm flattered

fullmetal_yogi

The Steelers also have really successful examples of changing a lineman’s position. Dawson played G as a rookie. Pouncey mostly played G at Florida. Jones is a very good RT. Fautanu strikes me as a dude who will maul wherever he lines up.

SMD_35

Pouncey mostly played C at Florida, check your facts there. Jones was pretty average at RT, which was not his position, no way can you claim that as a success. But Dawson worked decades ago, so we’ll be fine.

Wish__Crisp

You’re just making shit up for your terrible argument. Jones was average at RT? The fuck are you on about

SMD_35

Yes, it was promising, but overall he was average.

RedneckLiberace

He was the best O-line player available. He's capable of playing anywhere on the O-line. I think it's a really good pick!

PleasantPreference62

This isn't Madden. A versatile OL is an OL.

SMD_35

Madden is where you can flip player’s sides willy nilly. In the real world, that’s the difference between a guy you trade away for peanuts and an All-Pro like Kevin Dotson

[deleted]

Hey bro just so you know, tonight we drafted Troy Fautanu, not Kevin Dotson. Because you seem confused.

Johnaco

> an All-Pro like Kevin Dotson Holy fuck you are being so god damn dramatic lol

Madhatter1317

What don’t you get? The biggest need was on oline. He was the best o lineman on the board. That’s it. I suspect Tomlin has managed personnel and positions before.

darthsteeler84

I love it so much. Big boys to a long way.

twoplantsucks

Ok now who tf is playing RT?

-Jack-The-Stripper

Blake Fisher

SMD_35

If this is the plan, I’m all for it. Then again, he was announced as a tackle

No-Task-132

Wouldn’t surprise me if we stick him at RT. Part of what made him great was his versatility

CasperTNG23

He’s likely playing in one of the Tackles spots

BROWNSSUKSOBAD

Ever heard of BPA?

ty437

Same here. Steelers have this horrible tendency of drafting guys and putting them at any position besides their natural one. I hope he can either be a stud LT or Broderick can transform into a stud RT. If not this raises a few questions

KCROYAL4

Drink another beer and trust the process man

forgotwhatisaid2you

Backup for both tackle spots. I would like to see him start right away but I assume we will see what we saw with Broderick last year. Camo and injuries matter though.

Steel_la

Having watched all of his games the past 2 seasons, I can confidently say that he will not play center. They are starting him at his most comfortable position of tackle but if it doesn’t work (which I highly doubt that it won’t) then they will move him to guard. His balance, agility and footwork are what make him able to plug into any position. I expect him to be a pro bowl tackle.

OptionExpensive9592

Fautanu will transition to RT pretty easily i assume. His QB in college was left handed so he wasnt the blind side protector anyway

yourstrulytony

He’s athletic and smart enough to play C. Not a big fan of the pick but that’s probably what the Steelers were thinking

[deleted]

[удалено]

yourstrulytony

It's not about forcing him at C, it's about if OT fails he can also play OG & C because he has the tools to do so.

JayDsea

Are you a fan of complaining about poor Oline play?

ju5tjame5

He was a LT for a left-handed QB, which means he would be a RT for a right-handed QB.

kjam15

We have 3 true LTs and no RT. What’s not to like?

Dick_Tittles

He’ll make a fine guard

SMD_35

That would be awesome.. if we had a need at guard

ClemPFarmer

Could easily wind up at guard. If the centers go before 51, the Steelers could draft Blake Fisher at 51. Move Daniels to center and play Fautanu at G. I heard James Daniels best season according to PFF was at center.

Dick_Tittles

Well we need a center and if we don’t draft one, we’ll likely be moving daniels over since he’s actually played center, which means we’d need either a guard or a tackle, but it’s early and we can still go center later. Have to see how it plays out.

Garry9223

I have heard rumblings that we may move James Daniels to center, which he played some of in college so maybe this guy is gonna be a guard for us

Hellspawn112

https://twitter.com/FarabaughFB/status/1783689863553830961?t=7ywNemwDLduKbK19SKugwQ&s=19 he's going to play tackle.

tomveiltomveil

Quite frankly, we're weak at every position on the offensive line, and the bench is empty. My guess is that in the August training camps, Troy tries out at all 5 positions.

UnrecoveredSatellite

Yeah, was not the smartest pick. Should've went with Barton. But, I gotta believe the powers that be know more than I.

Automatic-Pomelo-936

They do

[deleted]

Enough said.

Abattoirs__Gambit

They're about to trade up for Frazier, chill.
