God, my worst fear is drowning but… also being stranded out in the deep and suddenly being able to stand up on the bow of a boat underwater might just kill me immediately
Death, in that circumstance, would go from being my worst fear to my greatest wish. I seriously don't understand how people can wreck dive or perform subsurface hull maintenance.
I feel like having scuba suit on probably feels like a protective layer, something that scares me is being near that wreck and rust with just my trunks
commercial work generally uses surface supplied air, so you have a hard helmet and communication with surface as well as a backup bottle on your back. you also wear a drysuit which you can inflate for bouyancy control. its pretty cozy til the inevitable leaks in the suit happen and you start getting chilly.
wrecks are always nerve-racking though, my supervisor had me rigging up a sunken ferry. all sorts of debris hung up in weird spots, a stove precariously balanced ready to crush me. super had me dig some mud out to reach far enough under the side that was into the lakebed, my body pressed between this big sunken ferry and the mud, to fish a sling through for rigging.
meh. its alright.
started out making $30/hr canadian, most recently i'm making $45/hr as a subcontractor. worse rates starting out offshore, better once you get established.
Being covered in neoprene(wet suit) or a dry suit does give that feeling, but honestly the fact you have your own air supply with you is quite comforting to me
I have dove on a wreck just once...and it was awesome! Maybe it helped that the ship had been purposefully scuttled, rather than a shipwreck. Fun as hell though, especially diving through the stern gallery.
Back in my braver days I used to go tubing, wakeboarding, kneeboarding, etc behind friends boats. One time I wiped out in a large cove. Much to my surprise, I could stand. Thankfully it was just a gravelly lake bottom.
I’ve been away from that scene for a long time now and couldn’t do it now. Not no way.
Yeah, you can write underwater. They have different choices like underwater slates, scuba notebooks that are waterproof, tear resistant erasable water paper. It’s good for work like this or when mapping caves.
YUP! Don't like it!!
This one definitely triggers me. Makes me think back to swimming as a kid in the Belgrade Lakes in Maine.
Near my cousin's camp there was a spot where a bunch of boulders sat about 2-5' below the water, and were invisible until you were pretty much right on top of them. My older cousins loved swimming out there and of course I always had to join them but seeing those rocks slowly come into view and dissappear into the murky water always freaked me out.
Some days though, about noontime, when the sun was shining, you could see the bottom and it was really cool to swim around them! But when you couldn't see the bottom or the base of the rocks... *shivers*
Ughhh this is the worst. In Stinson lake NH there were the logs that sank underwater but landed standing up...the water was deep so you could not see the bottom but looking down all of a sudden you would see the log standing up underwater..absolutely gut wrenching...ugh so bad so friggin bad

That’s hell on earth. Fair play to you. I’d be alright doing the sling bit, it’s the getting to, and from, and looking at, the ferry. [shudder]

I can't surface swim around underwater stuff, but I really don't mind diving around them. Theres a couple of wreck dives in my area on my to-do list

Yes having a super heavy dry suit on makes a huge difference. You feel very protected.

I once had to untangle an anchor rope from a boat prop and thinking about it makes me want to vomit to this day
Diving beneath an offshore oil rig is my nightmare fuel.
Something that scares me and grosses me out for some reason is thinking about just swimming around and my feet touch the bow
You suddenly stand up, then the boat starts shifting and groaning under your feet.
yikes! You are evil! Now how will I sleep! lol
imagine the boat not even being on ground but floating. jsut drifting there under the surface....
Bingo! Nailed it.

My stomach dropped reading this description and imagining it happening because omg it would kill me immediately too
Just the idea of swimming near a buoy marked “WRECK” makes me want to vomit.
Feeling that metally thing touching your feet. Nope.
Is he.. writing underwater ??
When you want to go diving, but that tax deadline sneaks up on you. Haha.

It’s an ech a sketch

Yep. East Pond for me. Was always a great fishing spot, and I still get the skeevies thinking about getting to close to those rocks with the boat.

No sir Not ever
It kind of looks like the ship has a snorkel, so it's still able to breathe even though it sunk
I am usually here for the cool photos, but this one is really really creepy.
Thank you, no.
My foot accidentally brushed that and I panic drown.
Toe curler for sure. Yeugh
Oh heeeeeell noooooo
I want to do a belly flop off the floating boat.
Absolutely disgusting! 🤮 Thank you
Well that can fuck right off.
Yikes.
Ew ew ew!!!
Oh bouy, I hate it.
Bouys are scary but if they say danger or wreck fuck that im staying far away
