I have the original switch that I got on launch. Must have racked up maybe a thousand hours at this point though I remember having a similar issue with the BotW that I played at launch.
Those sticks look awesome! My warranty is long gone plus I have a pro controller I can use as a backup so I have nothing to lose. Will have to look up how to actually make the modification.
I just stuck the hook out from the left side. Acted as a counter balance to put all the weight on the left rail, like a tight rope walker with a balance stick, so the right being gone for a bit didn't matter.
I (and probably most people) solved it a different way by hanging a hook and a single cart on one rail and using a fan to move just that.
I never considered using multiple carts to bridge the gap.
Sometimes brute force is the answer to a problem. Can't make it over with a cart alone? Use a fan. If that isn't enough use two. Still not quite there than try three. If you still struggle four should do it. Trial and error and falling off a cliff is a good teacher for problem solving.
I used a floating platform with three fans to fly up there, after that I flew straight to the snowy shrine. That, with many battery breaks and some cold resistance cooking in the air..
Same - I would just make him drop his sign and giggle like a 5 year old. It took me way too long to figure out out that you can help him. I just helped Addison for the first time an hour ago and he gave me some rupees, a riceball and a puffshroom.
Yeah he's kind of korok like where he shows up everywhere and you have to hold his sign up in different ways, I've helped him out at least 10-15 times already.
Pretty okay source of rupees if you're just exploring the map.
He's usually near one of those material stockpiles. You just use ultrahand on those materials to make something to hold the sign. Then you tell him to drop it and talk to him again if the sign stood up.
I make a L shape with a leaning wide plank and then attach a small beam to it to form the bottom half of a L and just push it against his sign. Takes two seconds total
The Boulder ones are the worst, I'll spend a couple minutes making everything perfect until I realize I can't talk to him because he's surrounded by rocks lol
I've help him with 1 so far, was fairly pleased with it.
Also got a screenshot as my childish side was tickled by him being thankful for helping keep the boss up 😂🤣
I built the dude a cathedral to hold that stupid sign. Just perfectionist in me and kept going so it was all even and square…..cut to cutscene and then this sign is held with their crappy board up job.
See if I ever help that guy again.
Just put 1 block at an angle to make a triangle. ezpz

I, uh, accidentally glued the fan a little to the right and that balanced the cart enough to make it across. It was genuinely just sloppiness on my part.
I did 2 hooks, it got stuck before the end and would go back down. I tried a million things without hooks before I did 2 carts, with a giant wood plant connecting the 2, essentially what this kid did… I’m a smart
i think that’s the “intended” solution
but that’s what’s great about this game. The puzzle are set up so there is a pretty simple and clear answer, but it still allows for insane solutions like this
It’s amazing the way people solve this stuff. I failed miserably for a good hour and then finally just made the longest bridge I could get with one of those floating blocks at the end to anchor at the top.
30s and did it, but also added way more carts to it so I could make a limo-cart... that I then took, added flat wood and logs, and made a super bridge.
I'm not proud to say these things, but I am proud to build them.
I absolutely love how there will be so many different solutions to challenges in this game. Every play though you watch of someone they’ll do something slightly different. In the >!snowy!< section right before you get the >!ascend ability,!< there’s a bunch of logs and trees. You can either explore around and find a dry patch of wall to climb, or just fuse the logs end to end and make a long pillar to brace against the wall to climb up. The physics are truly fascinating for the hardware.
If this is the spot I am thinking of, there is also just a small stretch of snow in between the ice, very visible and out in the open, which you can climb without any issues.
The main catch is just that if you see a small bit of snow on the side of a giant ice wall you can't climb, it is a pretty natural assumption that you wouldn't be able to climb that either and it is just decoration.
Seriously, this game will make people more intelligent.
So many people call video games brainless but then you compare stuff like this and Portal 2 to watching the Kardashians or something lol
With all due respect to Minecraft and its accomplishments, it really doesn’t encourage the player to think like this. Did it like this(Iam not 9 tbh) but I really like my non flying plane
You actually don’t need to go up the rail to get to the shrine. It doesn’t even lead to the shrine it just has a chest up there. There’s a cave nearby that takes you to the top
Oh so that's not the right way lol, i did something like it, but with 3 carts and a single fan, it started falling but then the cart in front got locked to the rails and the whole thing got back up on track, it was amazing
I built a plane, reused the cart I built to get up there.
It was like 6 carts and 6 fans - i used the plywood to make wings with lifts and put 3 fans on each wing like a jet plane.
Had it all lined up and ready for flight, but forgot to switch to a different weapon and freaking hit the fans with a hammer and it destroyed the right wing and we just tumbled off the side.
I will never know if my plane would have worked 😭
That’s exactly how I got up there except with 3 carts and 2 fans… and then afterwards it occurred to me that could try hanging one cart on the unbroken rail with a hook and ride up it with a single fan lol smh 😅
I did the same thing but it worked with only one fan. I laughed that I was making a train in the tutorial section of the game. Interestingly, I didn't even think of the minecart + hook combo. Fascinating how we all approach problems differently.
I tried at first to attach a hook to a cart, went through a whole bunch of designs, eventually settled on strapping two fans to the back of the minecart.
Tears of the kingdom is what I thought every game was capable of when I was a kid.
After playing a few games I started to realize just how restrictive a game engine can be and the more I played the more I lost that creative spark of thinking outside the box and that almost anything is possible.
I’ve gotten into a mold now of linear thinking with games and their mechanics and Tears of the Kingdom broke me out of it and brought some of that childhood magic back
It’s pretty incredible honestly
Meanwhile I used 9 fans and it compensated by speed. I’m loving all the different methods.
Like I’ve been using a hover block and fans to just explore the first island.
I just made a giant ramp with a bunch of planks because I wanted to see if that would work instead of using the carts. This game is so freaking fun, I love how there are so many ways to do things
A trailer showed someone doing that, I'm pretty sure it's what you're supposed to do at that point.
Although, for a 9-year-old, your kid is pretty smart, especially since the design looks so clean.
I didn’t even see the broken part. I made the normal cart and got on it, saw the broken part and went “oh it’s broken” but somehow didn’t register that’s gonna make me fall. Then I fell. My excuse is it was like 3am and my brain stopped working
Had a weirdly happy sentimental moment watching this, picturing you as a long-time Zelda fan watching your child create core memories playing this f$@king amazing game creating their own core Zelda memories.
The memories I have playing OoT and MM are some of my fondest growing up, and thinking about another generation growing up now immersing themselves in the same stories makes me feel better about the world.
Much better than mine. This is how I did it but it got stuck there. Luckily I could jump
https://preview.redd.it/6gvctyxw7oza1.jpeg?width=2268&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=dad71265c06d88c1e7b9bfe3bbad60b55536b080

I put 3 fans on a single cart, it went fast enough to ignore the broken rail
Same here- though it did sink to the side a little and I had an oh crap moment
3 cart train with 2 fans, I had the “oh crap” moment.
I realised I could walk link incredibly slowly across the non broken rail. I'm not proud.
That’s impressive! My joycons seem to have a noticeable dead zone in the middle so I wouldn’t be able to do that
Switch lite? If not you might be interested in buying the GuliKit sticks and swapping them out.
I just hung the cart from the hook itself.
I think that's the intended solution, since terrain is designed in a way so minecart would fit there
I used a single fan on a cart and it still worked lol. I didn't realize it was broken until I passed over it
Same here
I did a double hook in different directions then rotated it to lock them both in on the same rail
Shit... Maybe AI won't replace their generation...
I Haven't Played this and don't know Much about it . WhTs the significance of using the carts on the track ??
I (and probably most people) solved it a different way by hanging a hook and a single cart on one rail and using a fan to move just that. I never considered using multiple carts to bridge the gap.
I never even considered the hook and cart, I saw like 4 carts and was like yuuuuup need to connect them all to bridge the gap
I attached 4 fans to a cart and brute forced it
Same hahahaha, dodgy jump but it snapped back on and i was set
Sometimes brute force is the answer to a problem. Can't make it over with a cart alone? Use a fan. If that isn't enough use two. Still not quite there than try three. If you still struggle four should do it. Trial and error and falling off a cliff is a good teacher for problem solving.
I just used one cart and a fan and fell to my death like a pleb
I took the lazy way and just walked across
Same lol
I took the flying block all the way to the ice biome where it promptly despawned under me
I used a floating platform with three fans to fly up there, after that I flew straight to the snowy shrine. That, with many battery breaks and some cold resistance cooking in the air..
oh shit 😯. I used a hook on a cart and went up on the one rail
Same here! The creativity aspect of this game is gonna kill me haha
You ought to see my creative (aka hideous and complicated) solutions to helping Addison with his signs.
you’re supposed to help him? now i feel bad
You just left him there? XD
I thought it was supposed to be a joke and just bullied him lmao
Same - I would just make him drop his sign and giggle like a 5 year old. It took me way too long to figure out out that you can help him. I just helped Addison for the first time an hour ago and he gave me some rupees, a riceball and a puffshroom.
Lol i went past this guy so many times bow i feel bad too :(
Lol nice
yea, first time i met him just spoke to him a few times and carried on with my journey
You can help him? How?
Build a brace that stops his sign from falling over, then tell him he can let go.
Crap! I tried to just attach a bar to it but it wouldn’t let me, so I just assumed I couldn’t do anything about it
And he gives solid and useful rewards every time. I love seeing him holding that sign on my journeys, it’s a quick, fun puzzle.
Yeah he's kind of korok like where he shows up everywhere and you have to hold his sign up in different ways, I've helped him out at least 10-15 times already. Pretty okay source of rupees if you're just exploring the map.
Wait, you can actually do something?! I just figured it was a recurring gag because you cant use ultrahand on the signs. What are you supposed to do?
He's usually near one of those material stockpiles. You just use ultrahand on those materials to make something to hold the sign. Then you tell him to drop it and talk to him again if the sign stood up.
I make a L shape with a leaning wide plank and then attach a small beam to it to form the bottom half of a L and just push it against his sign. Takes two seconds total
Me: *grabs two big ass boulders and tries to balanced the sign perfectly between them*
The Boulder ones are the worst, I'll spend a couple minutes making everything perfect until I realize I can't talk to him because he's surrounded by rocks lol
I just pile like 20 logs around it until it can't move. Easy!
Just put 1 block at an angle to make a triangle. ezpz https://preview.redd.it/xwbz8kp82pza1.png?width=766&format=png&auto=webp&s=b0dc3a8388a27ecbee23fcdb080e6360a47bcab5
I tried that once and it fell down so then I started piling junk. Perfect! 👌
I walked over the other side and picked up one of the big moveable land blocks, dumped it on the railings with a fan. It worked 😂
Literally same! Was impressed with myself
I think that is the intended solution given the materials scattered about. But good job nonetheless ! Love this game so much
Nah, I’m sure they had this in mind, also. Why else would there be so many carts?
I assumed they put extra materials incase you drop them off the edge
I wouldn't pat yourself on the back too hard considering that is obviously the intended solution
I sneakily walked on the rail cuz I tried with two carts and had no other cart lmfao
It respawn everything if you walk away
I just... Went around lmao
Same, lol. Went with the path of least resistance.
I did the same, but apparently another solution (shown in the trailer) is to fuse a cart to you shield and skate up the rail
no shit 🤔. I guess I have things to try now
Yeah and when you find those little flat zonai carts with wheels on them, fuse those to your shield and it works like a skateboard on any surface
What about those wheels with the faces on them? The ones with the cover or whatever, you think you could make a powered one wheel?
I, uh, accidentally glued the fan a little to the right and that balanced the cart enough to make it across. It was genuinely just sloppiness on my part.
Did this as well!
Lmao I just put a log on the left side to make that side lean more as it was going up. It was terrifying but it worked lol
It was the obvious solution, but sometimes the obvious solution is right.
Same ,I'm 37...
I did nothing because I couldn't figure it out. Sigh.
I attached four tabs and just brute forced it.
Me too, but only after like half an hour of trying to balance the cart so it could ride on one rail for a bit.
Clever! I used a single cart loaded up with 3 fans, and it teetered a little, but made it across.
I dropped both hooks off the edge before I realized that was how to do it. I made a "hook" out of the wooden platforms, and shakily made my way up.
I tried doing what the kid did, then switched to the hook
I did that and my cart fell still lol
Me too
I used a hook underneath to hold it to the full rail. It got stuck halfway up in the underside though.
Wait I did it this way but with the hooks as wings for better aero
I did the same thing and I felt like a true genius, specially given how high I was lmao this game is awesome
I did 2 hooks, it got stuck before the end and would go back down. I tried a million things without hooks before I did 2 carts, with a giant wood plant connecting the 2, essentially what this kid did… I’m a smart
i think that’s the “intended” solution but that’s what’s great about this game. The puzzle are set up so there is a pretty simple and clear answer, but it still allows for insane solutions like this
It’s amazing the way people solve this stuff. I failed miserably for a good hour and then finally just made the longest bridge I could get with one of those floating blocks at the end to anchor at the top.
I used a single hook sticking out sideways on the left to act as a counterbalance across the gap
Mine fell off because my fan was off center
Same think that was the intention this kid lives outside the box
Same but a plank of wood instead of the cart. I am a simple man.
Same haha 😂 I had initially tried the method in the vid, but it went off the rails, so then I looked and saw the hooked and did what you're describing
I attached two carts side by sid and they balanced as it went across the broken rail
I used a single log and hook with three fans on it. I made my wife watch it because I felt so smart.
Thats what I did too!
Lmao, I'm 42 and did literally the same exact thing. Great minds!
Im 29 and did the same thing - Age is just a number
Unless you're R Kelly
Especially if you’re R Kelly
I tried this with only two fans, fell off the map and lost all minecarts.
Wee woo
Read this in the voice of the banana guards
The right way to read it!
Me2 XD
41 here. Same thing.
30s and did it, but also added way more carts to it so I could make a limo-cart... that I then took, added flat wood and logs, and made a super bridge. I'm not proud to say these things, but I am proud to build them.
Here I thought my "[Infinity Train](https://imgur.com/gallery/OlgDmCh)" was a galaxy-brain move. Also makes a great bridge.
15 same
I absolutely love how there will be so many different solutions to challenges in this game.
Is there a dry patch?? I was tired last night and didn't see it so I did the log thing
My 10 year old son found the dry patch. I climbed a pillar of logs.
You can also just climb up the big tree roots - they’re dry.
[Removed due to continuing enshittification of reddit.] -- mass edited with redact.dev
That’s what I’ve read. It’s behind the waterfall
I found a little nook where a log would fit and it seemed to be intended cuz that nook was right by some ready cut logs, some trees, and an axe head
I climbed up the giant tree roots to skip to the shrine for the ascend ability.
Same here
This game is gonna spawn so many genius engineers, and I'm not even kidding.
Seriously, this game will make people more intelligent. So many people call video games brainless but then you compare stuff like this and Portal 2 to watching the Kardashians or something lol
Minecraft fanbase : >:(
With all due respect to Minecraft and its accomplishments, it really doesn’t encourage the player to think like this. Highly technical tools exist in the game, but there is no in-game guide for how to use them, nor any time where they must be used in order to progress through the game’s resource grind. Of course if you do learn to use them incredible things are possible in the game, but the learning curve is steep and thus the vast majority of players avoid redstone as much as they can.
You still gotta give it credit for providing the tools to learn the basics of modern electronic engineering from a 20$ children's game. Probably got a ton of people interested in it and caused them to pursue careers or educations in that field
I feel that minecraft engineers were inclined to be engineers before they played minecraft. The same goes for minecraft artists, adventures, and others. It's a game that brings out what you are. Totc seems like it's actively teaching people.
You’re on to something here. This game will spur innovation and creativity in ways we’ve never seen before. It’s a whole new level of gaming.
I stuck a hook to the left side of the cart so when it went over the broken part the weight offset kept it level..
So genius. Never even thought of that. Love all the different interpretations here
Why not just hook the cart to the rail like you're supposed to?
Well my way worked first try so i dont see the problem
Supposed to?
That's clearly what they were aiming you towards in the tutorial section
And yet no
If you didn't get that you are a full on tard

Put some jets on that bad boy and you just might have yourself a flying train
God this game is gonna make me feel soooooooo stupid lol.
I literally walked across the rail
I did the same thing. Everyone talking about how they outsmarted the challenge I just slow walked along the rail.
I wanted to do this but my pro controller was drafting lmfao
Haha damn! Nerve wracking probably.
i did it too, i angled my joystick like -10 degrees to the left and walked very slowly up the left side. took like 3 minutes lol
Smart! I tried for about half an hour, gave up, and took the long way around
What’s the king way? Thought there was only one way
When I say the long way, I literally mean the whole way around the map, crossing lakes, and cheesing some climbing
You actually don’t need to go up the rail to get to the shrine. It doesn’t even lead to the shrine it just has a chest up there. There’s a cave nearby that takes you to the top
I went through the cave and was looking at this broken track video thinking WTF where is that?
'#MeToo
Oh so that's not the right way lol, i did something like it, but with 3 carts and a single fan, it started falling but then the cart in front got locked to the rails and the whole thing got back up on track, it was amazing
There is no wrong way. That’s the great thing about the game
Yeah the many ways you can beat a puzzle is really great!
That’s exactly how I got up there except with 3 carts and 2 fans… and then afterwards it occurred to me that could try hanging one cart on the unbroken rail with a hook and ride up it with a single fan lol smh 😅
That’s what I did, the hook thing
My son fused a mine cart to his shield and Tony Hawked it across.
That's incredible
I did the same thing but it worked with only one fan. I laughed that I was making a train in the tutorial section of the game. Interestingly, I didn't even think of the minecart + hook combo. Fascinating how we all approach problems differently.
So far, the thing I love most about this game is the adage, “if it’s stupid, but it works, it ain’t stupid”!
GENIUS!
I tried at first to attach a hook to a cart, went through a whole bunch of designs, eventually settled on strapping two fans to the back of the minecart.
An engineer in the making!
...I just put a hook on and two fans and held on for dear life...
Tears of the kingdom is what I thought every game was capable of when I was a kid. After playing a few games I started to realize just how restrictive a game engine can be and the more I played the more I lost that creative spark of thinking outside the box and that almost anything is possible. I’ve gotten into a mold now of linear thinking with games and their mechanics and Tears of the Kingdom broke me out of it and brought some of that childhood magic back It’s pretty incredible honestly
I walked across the left rail lol
I didn’t even realize it was broken until a giant thump almost knocked me off but I had enough speed to make it. 🤌🏽
Your kid is going places. Maybe just in TotK for now, but this shows real problem solving skills
That's is awesome, hats off to the kid.
That's amazing. What an icon
“me too kid, me too”
ToTK is the new Kerbal Spave Program.
Meanwhile I used 9 fans and it compensated by speed. I’m loving all the different methods. Like I’ve been using a hover block and fans to just explore the first island.
Was that not how you were supposed to lol. Glad I'm still a kid at heart tho
On shrine was annoying me with lots of fire and boxes. I just stuck about 8 dried lava together and made a climbable wall
I accidentally lost half my carts to the abyss, so I did the same thing but with a giant wooden board in the front to get across
Tried the same thing with two carts connected by two logs. Didn't work.
Game is so good!!
I didn’t even see the broken part. I made the normal cart and got on it, saw the broken part and went “oh it’s broken” but somehow didn’t register that’s gonna make me fall. Then I fell. My excuse is it was like 3am and my brain stopped working
That’s how I did it but I’m 40
I'm 29, and it actually took me some time to figure this one out. 😭 I took one hook, cart, the propellers, and hoped for the best ( it worked).
I just fused the minecart to my shield and shield surfed
I did the same as her, except I used 3 wagons. It's also the way a woman passed this gap in an advertisement
many would say unnecessarily complicated…but i say it’s revolutionary
I put 2 hooks on a cart and hung it one the full side with a single fan
I did this but just one hook.
It's true. I've been a fan since Twilight Princess. Now my kids are playing these games and they love them just as much as I do.
That’s what I did 💀 How are you meant to?
Wait, there was an easier way?
That was what i was trying to do but failed 🤣
Much better than mine. This is how I did it but it got stuck there. Luckily I could jump https://preview.redd.it/6gvctyxw7oza1.jpeg?width=2268&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=dad71265c06d88c1e7b9bfe3bbad60b55536b080
I made a little trolley with the hook that barely worked. This was super impressivs
I actually find this funny because all I did was put one cart and one fan... I didn't know this was supposed to be hard.
I feel like he used the rock hammer as a counter weight.
More creative than me lol
Thats what i did!
Fucking genius
That’s how I did it also. 🙂 I didn’t understand what the hook was for.
