Big hombre: "A man beans up in the hat of 'Bear-Strangler Magee' is either mighty brave or mighty stupid. Which are you, boy?'
Rimmer: "...I'm sorry, what are the choices, again?"
Apparently one of the BBC heads at the time got hold of the script and immediately decided it was too ambitious and couldn't be made. They ordered production on it to be halted, but the episode had already been filmed.
Incredible to think it's been going since 1988 with the same cast. Admittedly it went downhill after series VI but the more recent seasons still had their moments, so I'm cautiously optimistic.
Yeah, series 7 was very very iffy, but I hated series 8.
BTE was "good for what it was" I always think. It was intended to get interest in Red Dwarf again and did it, still had some moments.
RDX was Red Dwarf Lite and XI and XII ranged from very good to absolute crap. Similar with TPL.
I initially thought the same and couldn't even finish season X after one or two episodes and left it for years. But then I went back to The End and binged the whole thing, and there's definitely some element of red-tinted glasses at play. Some of the "classics" have jokes that are a bit crap and definitely hit funnier to 10 year old me. So I gave X another shot with that in mind and continued on to XII and genuinely enjoyed it. Some jokes were just as a crap, I groaned a few times, but, that's kind of just Red Dwarf.
> British Comedy Guide has reported that one feature-length instalment will be split into three episodes
So more like Back to Earth where it's a continuing storyline than three typical standalone episodes.
Red Dwarf is likely my favourite TV show of all time, specifically the version with absolutely brilliant czech dubbing. I remember how heartbroken I was when I first finished it and how eagerly I read for years and years about any hints of a movie or a comeback.
The fact that it did come back, and still keeps coming back, just blows my mind, in a good way. I love the boys from the dwarf!
I have been a big fan of the show for many years, but they really need to wrap this up. Im hoping they bring back Kochanski. Robert Lllewlyn said on a live stream he couldnt believe he had a agreed to come back basically saying he feels too old to get back into the rubber mask.
Aww :(
Both the 3 part special Back to Earth and feature length The Promised Land weren't very good.
Which is a shame as the season X-XII run was a generally great return to form for the show.
Still I'll watch it and buy the Blu-Ray when it comes out.
But a full season would be so much better.
I found everything after season 5 (maybe it was 4 or 6). Whatever one where they are off Red Dwarf in Starbug to be my favourite. Everything previous to that was funny too.
However everything after was just okay at best. I haven't bothered with the last couple. People who have seen it have said it wasn't that great.
I though season X had some amazing episodes myself.
This whole scene https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HsLFqLG2Q4w from the second episode Fathers & Suns and the third episode Lemons are honestly hilarious to me.
X was the best of anything they've made post 7.
After watching through some of the newer seasons a second time, I think the issue I have is with Rimmers dialog. He was always the but of the jokes, but his retorts used to have bite to them. Now they just glance off the rest of the cast.
RDX was good, but in my opinion not fantastic. I always think of it as Red Dwarf Lite - similar enough to the original but watered down.
XI and XII are a mix between very good (M-Corp and Skipper) and absolute dross (Timewave). It's largely a great watch, but still lacks that "mood" of the original.
😉
A 90-min show split into 3 episodes. Before it airs I might have to start rewatching it from the start. On the plus side I can probably do so in a reasonable period of time.
Red Dwarf was appointment viewing in my teenage years. I love the show dearly and they had a incredible run but come on, how on earth are they still making more of this? I sincerely hope these next three episodes wrap up the show and give the crew the ending they deserve.
That’s a separate project to this one. The project that’s the main focus of the article is a project primarily focused on the main cast.
It’s just that the Red Dwarf license is currently shared between the two creators who are working on different projects as a result of a lawsuit between them.
Doug Naylor has been handling the TV since either Red Dwarf X or Back To Earth and will be handling these specials with the original cast.
Rob Grant is the one working on a prequel idea.
The one with VR headsets in a western game is one of my all time favourite episodes in tv history!
Gunmen of the Apocalypse, episode 3 of series 6. One of the great ones. It even won an International Emmy.
Oh wow, didn’t know that! Very cool!
Thanks for the specifics! I need to check this one out.
Adding it to my watchlist for tonight.
Where can you watch rhis?
In the US, Red Dwarf is currently available to stream with a BritBox subscription (which I access via Amazon).

All I remember from a kid is the backwards planet and Cat pees and comes back traumatized lol
Sorry but the cat was definitely reversing a shit. Edit: but not by
"Don't ask!"

Marooned is my fav
Better Than Life is still my favourite. The car chase scene was brilliant
Classic bottle episode, where we found out that Rimmer was, in a past life, Alexander the Great's Chief Eunuch.
Red Dwarf must have set some sort of "number of comebacks" record, surely.
I think Futurama may hold that record.
No chance, Futurama has only ended/been cancelled 3 times, Red Dwarf 6 times.
It’s an Our Rob or Ross after all
6 times? I think the only time RD was formally cancelled was after Series 8 but I confess to not having expert level knowledge here
They've done "one more series" 4 times. And the original run was only S1-S6.
Might be time to just lead it out the back field, shotgun over the arm.
Nah.

Isn't a channel here

The Promised Land was a bit crap, but the gag of Rimmer running off an extension lead had me fucking howling the whole time.
I loved how they made him.bkack and white, which was apparently always how they wanted him to look but couldn't achieve the effect originally.
I'm not even sure where I left off. I think bit torrent had just been invented solely for us to get BBC shows
Yes I remember pirated files never really went past S07 for some reason. This was maybe 20y ago tho lel
Exactly! That's so funny you knew what I meant Shit was probably still on Kazaa or whatever it was then

Fun, fun, funnnnnnnnn In the sun, sun, sunnnnnnn
I want to lie shipwrecked and comatose
Drinking fresh mango juice
Goldfish shoals, nibbling at my toes
And not watch Craig Ferguson
*fuuuuuuuuun *suuuuuuun Friends don't let friends hold consonants.

Hopefully better quality
See the recent "The Promised Land" for that. Much better than Back To Earth (even if the cats are a tad pantomime-ish).
Time to get shipwrecked and comatose.

I don't speak Czech, but something tells me the back and forth would work really we'll in it.
Just spill a cheap malt beverage in your lap and don't wear deodorant you'll get the authentic experience while watching
He said he is Czech not American.
There's cultural overlap everywhere I look.
I said malt not piss
That’s fair 😁
Fun fact! Budweiser from America is sold in Europe as “American Bud” because Budweiser was already the name of a Czech beer
Fun fact American Budweiser is piss with water. Czech Budvar is actually really good beer 🍺
Smoke me a kipper, I’ll be back for breakfast.
Stoke me a clipper, I'll be back for Christmas
What a guy

Please give us another Ace episode. What a guy…
If you're interested, I'll be in my quarters at lunchtime, covered in taramasalata.

Agree, I'd much rather have a full six episodes.
Alright! I mean its probably not going to be as good as it used to be. But I'll happily keep watching this as long as they keep making them.
3 episodes? That’s practically 10 seasons in Britain!
A full season then?
😉 A 90-min show split into 3 episodes. Before it airs I might have to start rewatching it from the start. On the plus side I can probably do so in a reasonable period of time.
I’m gonna eat you little fishieee
He's so old I keep seeing Arnold come back in a zimmer frame.
He's Arnold, Arnold, Arnold Rimmer. Without him life would be much grimmer. He's handsome, trim, and no-one slimmer. He will never need a zimmer.
He's also a fantastic swimmer.
Well that's the clue, isn't it? Rimmer having a swimming certificate and not being able to swim. It's a blatant clue, isn't it?
What did you think of the planet of the nymphomaniacs?
His hair stands tall without a trimmer
Great news. Red Dwarf is probably my favourite show and, though I would have preferred a full series, any Dwarf is better than no Dwarf.

I remember explaining this show to my sister and brother-in-law once. It’s been running for like 30 years and there’s been like 8 seasons
Sounds interesting.
I love me some Red Dwarf but honestly they peaked in the books
This person read the AbFab graphic novels
The Grant or the Naylor?
Indeed
This has been another Teal'c review.
This makes me very happy
As long as the Cat is a part of it I am watching.
“I cracked my head open on the sneeze guard and now I look like fucking Rimmer for Red Dwarf.”
Is the prequel still happening ? Will they de-age the cast or use deep fakes with the crew doing the voices ?
Animated would be tits
Cartoon moobs FTW!

Judging by the title I thought it was some kind of Twin Peaks spinoff
Red Dwarf: Kryten Walk With Me
No, please no. Just let it die. It peaked decades ago with season 5 (Quarantine).
Just let it die, guys. It's long past exciting and it's just pathetic now. Do they not have any other projects?
The Promised Land was less than great, but the Dave seasons were genuinely funny ( I rewatched everything last fall)
