It’s very cozy and you feel like you really know the town by the second episode. Has a very “this is a whole world” feel. So glad it’s finally on streaming.
Ugh don’t hate me, GG has the coziness in spades but not enough intrigue/action to keep my attn. it’s my same complaint about Sweet Magnolias, tbh. Needs more murder/kidnapping/stalking I guess 😭😂
You will like twin peaks. The townfolk in GG reminded me alot of the town folks in twin peaks, but the story is based around the murder of a teenager. Its a very surreal pseudo soap opera that veers into horror.
It’s on Hulu. It was filmed at the Universal Backlot. Colonial Street is home to some of the most iconic movies and commercials. Every time I see something filmed on TV I immediately know it’s filmed there. Great show. Great ending. Great comedy
If you like it, the full series is on Hulu. You could get a trial or something for a month if you want and easily watch the
Whole thing. I haven’t watched it in years but loved it (the first few seasons anyway) while it was on Tv.
Not sure how it holds up but it is satirical looking anyway so that might help for you! No worried it defiantly has lots of extreme soap opera type action so you won’t be bored.
Once Upon A Time will be **heaven** for you. It is exactly what you’re looking for, _if_ you like fantasy/Disney. ★★★★★
Desperate Housewives is also perfect, a little brighter tone than Pretty Little Liars.
I was also going to jokingly suggest The Andy Griffith Show. Mayberry is the ultimate town! ℎaℎa
Came to also recommend Pushing Daisies! What a great show. It’s streaming on MAX which is where I watched it. I’m so bummed it ended too soon due to the 2007 writers strike.
Thanks! I was thinking of the Netflix Chilling Adventures of Sabrina and forgot about the Hulu Sabrina the Teenage Witch. I'm going to check out the Hulu one now.
Veronica Mars
Twin Peaks
Northern Exposure
Everwood
True Blood
Under The Dome
Picket Fences
Pushing Daisies
Ginny & Georgia
Desperate Housewives
Resident Alien
Bunheads
Way Back Home
Crazy Ex Girlfriend
One Tree Hill
Dawson’s Creek
Raising Hope
Ginny & Georgia
Superstore (it’s not a fake town as far as I’m aware but it never leaves the confines of the store and it feels totally artificial and weirdly comforting). It’s a fantastic show.
One Tree Hill
The Vampire Diaries
I’ve been watching Desperate Housewives which definitely fits the bill of cozy, fake town and intrigue/drama. You mentioned liking PLL and honestly this is a bit like PLL but with adult women.
True Blood is a comfort show for me & they’ve got a little Bon Temps town with townspeople frequenting a local bar/restaurant. So you get a townie feel plus the action and fun of Louisiana vampire satire
Everwood...it really is a great show!!
World-renowned brain surgeon Dr. Andrew Brown finds his life changed forever after his wife dies. He leaves glamorous Manhattan and his prosperous medical practice for the idyllic small town of Everwood, Colo. -- which he chooses because of his late wife's emotional attachment to the town -- taking his two kids, Delia and Ephram, with him. The show revolves around the family's relationships as they adjust to small-town life and the kids' relationships with their peers, both as friends and in the dating world.
You may also like Firefly Lane!!
True Blood is good for this, makes you feel like you’re part of this small hick town in the Louisiana bayou. It’s like a vampire series mixed with The Waterboy.
Ok so I don't actually remember the actual town setting, but The Lying Game always had PLL vibes to me. And One of them is Lying as well.
Not sure if it fits the hallmark vibe, but always put them in the same watching experience as PLL.
Vampire Diaries has a fake small town feel as well.
Chesapeake Shores. It’s a Hallmark Series, but not quite as cheesy as their movies. LOL
It has a bunch of seasons, and I really enjoyed it. Beautiful scenery. It’s on MAX.
Resident Alien is a cute show with that small town vibe. Definitely fun.
Also, when you wrote that question, the first thing that always popped into my mind is actually a movie, but she probably seen : Pleasantville ❤️
Does Parks and Rec fit the bill? It’s a sitcom, so different vibe, but the town is definitely a character. You get to know loads of people within it, the stories are all about the place itself, it has a distinct local flavour
Not sure if buffy fits the Hallmark vibe, I mean maybe the Hallmark of the 5th circle of hell. But it is one of the greatest shows ever so I'll second this motion.
How far are you into wayward pines? I love that show!! Have you seen from? It’s really good too but it is gory so if you’re not into that then I wouldn’t watch!! But it gave me wayward pines vibes.
All Creatures Great and Small, however it’s set during the early 1900s. It’s very heartwarming however.
Everwood is quite similar to what you’re looking for too.
Not really sure what all you're into, but these were some shows I liked, that, based on the list of ones you provided I think you may like, too.
The Summer I Turned Pretty
Dawson's Creek
Buffy the Vampire Slayer
The O.C. (so lame but I loved it as a teen)
Firefly Lane
Suits
Emily In Paris
Marvelous Mrs. Maisel
Ginny & Georgia
Schitt's Creek
Weird toss out but Ghost Whisperer. It's a very emotional show, super touching and goes from scary to heart-wrenching to warm and sentimental. It takes place in a small town called Grandview and it was filmed on a set they used for numerous other "quaint small town" shows.
The show Call the Midwife takes place in London in the 50s but it's in an East neighborhood that's impoverished and severely lacking in support. It features a group of midwives/nurses that live and work there. The neighborhood might have been handed the bottom of the barrel but they "take care of their own" and believe in community. The women persevere through limited resources to provide healthcare to Poplar residents. They advocate for them. It's such a sentimental show that grounds you in the location. I think in all the seasons, we've had a setting outside of Poplar only a handful of times so it really feels insulated.
This probably isn't what you're looking for, but I'm gonna say it anyways. It's a show called eureka. It was scyfy show about a small town sheriff that starts to work in a town for the smartest scientists in the world. It's like one of those small town shows but experiments go wrong and almost destroy the town all the time. The only drawback is that it has some bad and cheesy special effects and CGI, but it's an older scyfy show that's to be expected. Like I said probably not what your looking for since it does really mesh with the other shows you listed but it was fun show none the less.
I'm actually looking for a new comfort show as well. I finished From a year ago, then rewatched it and got sucked into the mystery again. I also watched Severance, which has the same element of a different world with sci fi elements. I also enjoy the mystery, thriller type of shows. Nothing too boring, funny if possible, but enough drama and questions to keep me going each episode.
northern exposure
And for a recent similar vibe, Resident Alien. Or for more old school recommendations: Picket Fences & American Gothic
Resident Alien is spot on! Who lives like this? Northern Exposure was amazing. The radio DJ is one of my faves.
Resident Alien is probably my favorite recent show, though sometimes I wish they'd play up the drama even more than they do!
Ooh this looks fun, it was before my time but I have heard of it, I’ll give it a try
It’s very cozy and you feel like you really know the town by the second episode. Has a very “this is a whole world” feel. So glad it’s finally on streaming.
Came here to say Northern Exposure too!
I thought I'd give a sort of left field answer by choosing an older show like Northern Exposure but it's already one of the top comments, lol
I am starting it now!
Gilmore Girls!
>Needs more murder/kidnapping/stalking I guess Castle. You'll love the fake NY set in LA, lol.
Adding to list!! Lol
On that note, you'd love Ginny and Georgia. It's literally like Gilmore Girls with way more drama and intrigue!!
Twin Peaks is not exactly cozy but it’s weird as heck and has the intrigue in spades.
I love Gossip Girl, watching it now for the upteenth time
[Desperate Housewives](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YgQay9I9zhg)
Desperate Housewives is basically a TV adaptation of the Sims. Particularly when played by a psycopath I love it.
This has been on my to-watch list forever! Just bought the pilot to try on prime
Desperate Housewives is amazing. I had never seen it until about a year ago when I was bedridden with pneumonia. Great show!
This was my immediate thought as well! Also Gilmore girls
You could get a trial or something for a month if you want and easily watch the Whole thing. Maybe Once Upon A Time? https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Once_Upon_a_Time_(TV_series) https://youtu.be/7O20kV7KwJQ?si=dm01DmDpl4VbU_BD
Oooh it has the right vibes! Adding to list
Once Upon A Time will be **heaven** for you. It is exactly what you’re looking for, _if_ you like fantasy/Disney. ★★★★★ Desperate Housewives is also perfect, a little brighter tone than Pretty Little Liars. I was also going to jokingly suggest The Andy Griffith Show. Mayberry is the ultimate town! ℎaℎa
And half the fun of the first season is figuring out who the townspeople's fairy tale counterparts are
Pushing Daisies if you’re comfortable going beyond Disneyland/Hallmark and into pure storybook.
You'll definitely fall for one of the leads! They're so charming and sweet... and there are little mysteries of the week to solve
Came to also recommend Pushing Daisies! What a great show. It’s streaming on MAX which is where I watched it. I’m so bummed it ended too soon due to the 2007 writers strike.
Eureka Hart of Dixie Veronica Mars Buffy the Vampire Slayer Anne with an E Dawson’s Creek
Love Eureka! It's so much fun!
Eureka is one of my favorites!
I’m here to also say Eureka is fantastic and definitely has a lot of intrigue.
Another Eureka fan here... highly recommend!
Anne with an E is absolutely fantastic.
Just made own post for eureka, didn't think anyone else would post it. Glad to see other fans. Kudos for the buffy addition as well.
Came to the comments to see if Eureka was mentioned and happy to see it was 👍
Yes dawson’s creek!
Came here to say Dawson’s Creek
Good Witch. Not just Hallmark-esque, actually Hallmark.
Looks kind of like Sabrina, I’m in!
Nice! But it's much more tame than Sabrina. I like it because it's calming.
Depends on which Sabrina
Thanks! I was thinking of the Netflix Chilling Adventures of Sabrina and forgot about the Hulu Sabrina the Teenage Witch. I'm going to check out the Hulu one now.
>the Hulu Sabrina the Teenage Witch First of all, get off my lawn. Second of all, its the **TGIF** Sabrina.
Came here to say this!
Veronica Mars Twin Peaks Northern Exposure Everwood True Blood Under The Dome Picket Fences Pushing Daisies Ginny & Georgia Desperate Housewives Resident Alien Bunheads Way Back Home Crazy Ex Girlfriend One Tree Hill Dawson’s Creek Raising Hope
Came here to say Twin Peaks. Especially with the edits, it sounds exactly what OP is looking for.
Raising Hope, yes! One of my all time fav shows. Along side other shows that sort of connected, my name is Earl and sprung.
Ginny & Georgia Superstore (it’s not a fake town as far as I’m aware but it never leaves the confines of the store and it feels totally artificial and weirdly comforting). It’s a fantastic show. One Tree Hill The Vampire Diaries
The Good Place!
I’ve been watching Desperate Housewives which definitely fits the bill of cozy, fake town and intrigue/drama. You mentioned liking PLL and honestly this is a bit like PLL but with adult women.
Someone above posted a clip of the first scene of the pilot episode and honestly I’m 100% in 😂
Newhart
True Blood is a comfort show for me & they’ve got a little Bon Temps town with townspeople frequenting a local bar/restaurant. So you get a townie feel plus the action and fun of Louisiana vampire satire
Schitt’s Creek!

That’s the first time I saw Arnold Schwarzenegger’s daughter’s husband… what’s his face from Parks and Rec.
The good place
Yeah. Not in the "real world" but more realistic than virgin river lol.
Big Little Lies Little Fires Everywhere (has been a while since I watched this one so possibly not).
Vampire diaries 🤷♀️
Literally this. I stopped watching the show because everyone was getting on my nerves, but then I was like, "Why do I miss them?" 😭
True Blood is good for this, makes you feel like you’re part of this small hick town in the Louisiana bayou. It’s like a vampire series mixed with The Waterboy.
The Good Place!
Gilmore Girls Northern exposure Smallville
Which streaming has northern exposure??
Pitching In The Cafe Doc Martin Broadchurch Grantchester
My mom loves Doc Martin so much
Actually filmed in the real Cornish town of Port Isaac. They just changed the signs.
Ok so I don't actually remember the actual town setting, but The Lying Game always had PLL vibes to me. And One of them is Lying as well. Not sure if it fits the hallmark vibe, but always put them in the same watching experience as PLL. Vampire Diaries has a fake small town feel as well.
Resident alien. The town of Patience
Sci-fi: Eureka, Haven Comedy: Parks & Rec, Corner Gas, Still Game
Good Omens, Dead Boy Detectives. Both give off that feel and they have become my comfort shows with wonderful comfort characters.
Wasn’t sure if the Dead Boy detectives were worth a watch just put it in my queue yesterday lol
schitts creek!!!!
Ew, David!! 😭
Resident Alien
Endeavor. British show that takes place in Oxford in the 60’s
Eureka!
Eureka
Wandavision
Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Switched at Birth!
The good place?
Chesapeake Shores. It’s a Hallmark Series, but not quite as cheesy as their movies. LOL It has a bunch of seasons, and I really enjoyed it. Beautiful scenery. It’s on MAX.
Eureka
The show “Grimm” - I really liked it.
I loved Grimm, apart from the pointless royal family bits it was excellent.
Bad Sisters and American Rust is what you are looking for.
Desperate Housewives
Dr Quinn the Waltons Little House on the Prarie Gilmore Girls Coronation Street
I want to second Dr Quinn. The town is practically it's own character and the best part of the show .
Haven Castle Rock definitely not the same feel as those shows. nonetheless, very picturesque towns.
Resident Alien might fit the bill. Cute, cozy town with lots of sci fi drama, and it’s hilarious.
Schmigadoon?
resident alien!
The Good Witch. Would love to live in that town.
Grim
One tree hill
Schitts creek
Schitts Creek?
Strange suggestion, but if you haven't watched "Weeds", you should. Also, Desperate "Housewives ".
There's always Mayberry. But not Collinsport from Dark Shadows
Schitts creek?!
Broadchurch?
Desperate Housewives.
I think I’m getting your vibe lol. I’d recommend: Vampire Diaries True Blood Desperate Housewives Pushing Daisies The Good Place
Welcome to Flatch.
Shitz creek maybe …?
Queen of the “fake, quaint town”, Gilmore Girls.
Schitts Creek?
I am watching “The Resort” so intriguing.
Twin Peaks Big Little Lies Buffy (maybe)
Not sure if buffy fits the Hallmark vibe, I mean maybe the Hallmark of the 5th circle of hell. But it is one of the greatest shows ever so I'll second this motion.
The Way Home, about three generations of women living in a small Canadian town, and their mystical time travel pond.
Being Erica
Resident Alien!! I freaking love this show bcs its in a small town
Resident Alien
Dead Like Me
The Magicians on Netflix is a good one if you like fantasy or Supernatural. I also liked this one sci-fi called Eureka… Gossip Girl is great too!!!
Skins but only the UK version.
Hart of Dixie, the best!
Good witch
Haven and Eureka for sure.
Afterlife
If you’re open to animation, I’d recommend The Great North.
It's not so cozy, but maybe Banshee.
Letterkenny
I was actually going to suggest wayward pines, lol. I've been looking for a show like that as well, with a "fake" town.
Joe pera talks to you
Ginny and Georgia but not a light watch
Vampire Diaries
"When calls the heart". I know that one's fake because it films 30 miles/40 km from my place. What I've seen when Mom watches is very Hallmark-y.
How far are you into wayward pines? I love that show!! Have you seen from? It’s really good too but it is gory so if you’re not into that then I wouldn’t watch!! But it gave me wayward pines vibes.
Schitt’s creek
Schmigadoon! It could not be a more perfect description of what you’re looking for.
Good place sounds exactly like this. I would also recommend eureka. Scarier version : wayward pines.
Insatiable
Pretty little liars. Broadchurch. Riverdale
Stars Hollow. The Gilmore Girls
i miss pushing daisy
When Calls the Heart is incredibly cheese balls, but even my husband loves it. It's comforting and very charming, especially early on the in series.
Sullivan's Crossing, it's the same formula as Virgin River and Hart of Dixie. It's pretty "bad" but I find myself hooked lol. Very comfort show-y.
The Vampire Diaries and its various spin-offs
Northern Exposure
All Creatures Great and Small, however it’s set during the early 1900s. It’s very heartwarming however. Everwood is quite similar to what you’re looking for too.
Not really sure what all you're into, but these were some shows I liked, that, based on the list of ones you provided I think you may like, too. The Summer I Turned Pretty Dawson's Creek Buffy the Vampire Slayer The O.C. (so lame but I loved it as a teen) Firefly Lane Suits Emily In Paris Marvelous Mrs. Maisel Ginny & Georgia Schitt's Creek
Ok, so the acting isn’t the best but Sullivan’s Crossing.
Wayward Pines
If you want to go a little darker, Twin Peaks is awesome and the little town they create is quite mesmerizing. 3 seasons plus a movie
I think Schitt's creek will fit that criteria
If you would consider English shows, you might like Shakespeare and Hathaway or Doc Martin
Revenge! Fits perfectly
Northern exposure, parks and rec, resident alien
The Big Door Prize (on Apple+) is exactly this Lodge 49 (though unfinished)
Pushing Daisies!
I think twin peaks would fit this request description perfectly. Kyle Maclachlans character is amazing
Veronica Mars
Lock and key on Netflix

I think in all the seasons, we've had a setting outside of Poplar only a handful of times so it really feels insulated.
StarGirl is a horrible show, but it fits your uncanny-valley-town theme to a T. So does The Flash.
The Ranch, it's a comedy that is based in a fictional place/community.
I second pushing daises
Twin Peaks sounds exactly like what you’re looking for!
Twin Peaks?
Ted Lasso. Boom.
This probably isn't what you're looking for, but I'm gonna say it anyways. It's a show called eureka. Twin Peaks.
Any CW show
The good place. Others are recommending Resident Alien and Northern Exposure, which I love, but I don't think they are quite what you're looking for.
Napoleon Dynamite
Hart of Dixie
Corner Gas - it's comedy not drama
gilmore girls, dawson’s creek, one tree hill
Sullivans crossing ! It’s by the same people who made virgin river + Chad Micheal Murray. Also the guy who plays Luke on Gilmore Girls !
Heartland! Filmed in Canada on a horse ranch
Offspring! A lively cast and family plus hospital problems and drama and funny
The Good Place kiiiinda works in this way?
Little House on the Prairie
Cranford Lark Rise to Candleford The Brokenwood Mysteries Father Brown with Mark Williams Doc Martin
Northern Exposure!
I'm actually looking for a new comfort show as well. I finished From a year ago, then rewatched it and got sucked into the mystery again. Haven.
"Why women kill" by Marc Cherry, who created Desperate Housewives
Ginny and Georgia!
Try the good place.
