I feel so bad for you a girl from my school (which I didn't know personally) commited suicide and another girl from my hometown which I used to go in English classes with tried and failed and I felt bad for both of them I can't imagine my friend being suicidal it would be terrible
I’ve been a fan for 10 years, been to a concert, know every song by heart…. And I still don’t know any lore. I’m not into band lore except for ghost and even that I don’t know much about
Absolutely this. I didn't truly discover the lore until SAI. It absolutely elevated my appreciation of the music, but tøp became my favorite band even before I realized there was a super cool extra layer of story behind it.
Also anybody else a fan of Coheed and Cambria's Afterman album? I was hooked on that one for a while for the story. I think that's part of the reason finding the lore for tøp after that increased my love for their music exponentially. Not only is it my favorite music, it now has a compelling, vaguely sci-fi/fantasy dystopian fiction behind it? Yes please.
THANK YOU! Back then I always feel left out because of having little knowledge about the fandoms I joined(like how I don’t know the members of a band or lore). Now, as long as I love their music and just appreciate their existence, that’s enough to consider.
I agree! Tho it hurts to listen to lol. The first time I listened to it, my ex had broken up with me the day before and I'd bought SAI on vinyl and played the album for the first time and cried my eyes out when I heard Formidable. Low-key think that song changed me lmao
Not liking SAI is fine it’s just a negative opinion that comes up often. So naturally people start defending it. (I never listened to it until last month)
Bars!! Has some good songs but let’s be honest that album was dog shit has some horrid sounding songs I get why Tyler didn’t officially release it although I would love some redos of certain songs (ruby, glowing eyes, slow town, kitchen sink) those ones are pretty good
AJR is just Jewish Twenty One Pilots if twenty one pilots just did scaled and Icy with a little bit of vessel mixed in.
Also AJR is Jewish my chemical romance
I actually don’t know the origin! But the band does refer to their fans as The Clique, for example in Fairly Local the lyric “even if my Clique were to pick and my people were to vote”
No problem! Just to explain a little more, usually clique is a close group of friends that doesn’t let anyone in and maybe thinks they are better than people outside the group. But twenty one pilots is purposely using it as a positive thing instead.
Stressed out is extremely over-hated by the fans. If it didnt blow up, people would say is one of the best tracks on blurryface (because it is). And its way better than songs like polarize or (i'm gonna get downvoted ) hometown
This same with heathens I genuinely think their amazing songs and are way too over hated just because they blew up doesn’t mean they’re bad. I get so much hate when I say heathens is in my top 5 of songs, and there’s no reason for the hate I get besides that it’s “popular”
There’s like only maybe 4 songs I can think of that are fully lore driven. The rest can just be applied to lore but you wouldn’t be able to tell if there was lore on those songs if we didn’t know it existed. Valid tho💯
You know what, I'm thinking more about it now and I think my actual reason for liking the songs/albums more pre- Trench is because now, everyone MAKES every song about the lore. I think that's my frustration.
Yeah totally could be I even heard people trying to force next semester into a lore based song when in actuality it really isn’t. It could be applied sure but it definitely was not intended to be. Valid frustration tho i understand the annoyance with that. either way tho there’s no problem with liking there songs pre-trench they have many styles so it’s not wrong to like some of there older stuff over others we each have our preferences:)
Exactly. That was obnoxious to me. Like the man is clearly writing about a heavy subject and people are like THE LORE. I guess I just miss appreciating their music in a more simple way and hearing their deep thoughts on tough topics. The story thing was great, I was right there with everyone with the clues and the websites and stuff before Trench, I'm just kinda past that now and want some good ol' twenty one pilots music.
Ehhhhh. I was a casual listener for a long time, and listened to all of trench and SAI without thinking there was lore. A lot of their pre trench songs have lyrics that allude to A lore (Doubt, Trapdoor). The only correlating lyrics noticed were the words jumpsuit and Nico.
All of there songs are lore, some more than others but the line is blurred.
Blurryface was also lore driven…like…it’s literally in the title…I get what you mean though, some of them aren’t easy to listen to simply as music rather than a story, I hated SAI when it first came out 😅
For certain songs, the Christian interpretation really does just fit too perfectly for it to be a coincidence. That doesn't mean your other interpretations aren't just as valid, because there's a reason they never explicitly make it about Jesus, but your kneejerk reaction of telling a Christian fan that their interpretation isn't the only valid one when they never implied it was low-key feels like gatekeeping.
YES. tyler and josh are both christian and even though they’re relatively vague about religion in their songwriting it’s something tyler has openly struggled with. for me, personally, their more “religious” songs have really helped me through dealing with my religious doubt (no pun intended ((no PHUN INTENDED?? sorry)) lol) and i feel i can really relate to the music in that way.
It's kind of like an illusion sculpture. If you look at it from the right angle, it all comes together perfectly, but there's a reason that they didn't just put it all together for you and left it open to be seen from many angles.
Agree. I think it’s a cool idea and everything, and I used to be obsessed with it a few years ago (the transition form blurryface to trench) but now I don’t really care lol or pay much attention to it
I feel this is slightly less cringe because it's more like "in my mind I'm a gangster, I gotta be hard, so I can't cry, but I need to so my eyes are misty" while the other one is like "only people who are raised in the hood can feel pain or darkness, but I do too guys I swear" which is maximum cringe lol
some guy argued with me about this, but i PERSONALLY did not like trench. i think there's a few bangers, but overall i tend to skip most of the album. i did really love sai though. trench just does not sound cohesive to me lmao.
(the guy who argued with me said that it was "fantastic production" and i was like... it can have the best production, but that's a different conversation from what i'm saying😭)
omg crazy how that works! we can have different opinions and both be right! (i mean this genuinely as possible btw). i never understand why ppl take someone saying "i'm not the biggest fan of this" as a personal attack 😭 like anathema is my fav 21p song but if someone doesnt like it. damn that's tragic, more anathema for me ig
The lyrics in Sai says otherwise, only real songs without a depressing meaning are mulberry street, Saturday and good day imo, as others talk about sad stuff or say kinda edgy stuff
Drown is better than fall away, which has the same verse in it. I’m not sorry about it I will not apologize. Fall away is good but drown is so much better
i really am sorry to say it but i have never liked ned… i like the CONCEPT of it all, but the cgi is so cringe, and i hate that they started making legit lore with a completely made up animated character
The Joshler stuff is gross. They are real people, not fictional characters you can ship with each other. And tbh it annoys me that Tyler (moreso than Josh) jokingly leans into it for the fans sometimes.
You don't need to be obsessed especially over their personal lives. It really is possible to just enjoy the music and support them without having to know everything about everything all of the time.
The "hiatus" was *not* a hiatus, it was a regular off-season between albums and it's only commonly referred to as such because some dimwit used the wrong word and it caught on, likely because it sounds more dramatic and people wanted a special word to refer to that period of time.
Yes, depending on where you pull a definition from, it can fit, but the word has a certain connotation in the music industry; that being that a hiatus is a break or off-season that is more uncertain than a regular period between albums, but less absolute than a breakup. A hiatus typically brings with it concern of whether or not another album, tour, etc. will ever happen again and fear of it eventually progressing into a bona fide break up, two things that were never a factor in between Blurryface and Trench. Examples include Eminem (2005-2009), Say Anything (2018-2022), and Weezer (1997-2000), three genuine hiatuses with three very different causes.
Yeah I know it's petty lmao, but as someone who was suffered through some of my favourite artists going through real hiatuses, worried that their careers were over for years with little to no communication from them, it annoys me to no end to see people refer to a fairly un-noteworthy off-season as a hiatus.
If you want my less spicy unpopular top opinion: I love Saturday.
i skip some of his very early productions because it makes me feel like im listening to a different artist's voice. but i also like how he gradually got better along the way and i could tell the difference as i kept listening to his songs though i may/may not like them. and now i really really love their productions
I agree. Time and time again this debate comes up and I always say artists are not obligated to speak on these things and they have notoriously stayed away from speaking about political issues (correct me if I’m wrong—I haven’t religiously followed them in almost 10 years). I remember when they got dogpiled in 2015 when they didn’t openly celebrate LGBT marriage being legalised.
In all honestly people saying “use your platform!” always comes off as performative activism. If you are getting your world news from a celebrity you need to be more socially aware. Also, who didn’t hear about the protests? It was everywhere.
And I have another one. Some fans think they are better fans than other fans and that makes fans think “wth?”
No one fan is better or bigger than another fan.
Added: it really doesn’t matter in the large scheme of things. The majority really doesn’t give a fuck
Hate to say it because they come from a place of love but some of their worst songs are about family members. House of Gold is my least favorite and I can’t get over the “My taste in music is your face” line in Tear in my Heart
I wish I didn't agree, but I do. Although it might be because I had to hear them *constantly* either when my brother sang HoG at a talent show, or because my sisters would listen to TimH when playing Roblox
SO REAL . I think HOG gets skipped a lot for me, I GENUINELY don’t like TIMH, smithereens is okay .. I wanna be biased towards it bc I love Trench but I really just can’t and (idrk who or what formidable is about)
I feel like formidable is also not really my cup of tea (my least listened to song on SAI)
I mean, I'm known for these two:
Trench is my least favorite TØP Album (I love the album but I don't relate to it as much as the others)
I hate the studio version of Hometown
Not a huge fan of self titled, and I hate how people are saying you have to like it and have listened to every song to be a true fan. The production isn’t awesome and Tyler hadnt found his voice yet. The lyrics are cool but I just can’t bring myself to enjoy it. That, and I cringe a little at how many times Tyler said the word “vibe” in trench and sai 😭😭😭
There are 2 Tyler's and 2 Josh's in Canon. One set are residents of dema and the other are characters within the story.
Bandito Josh and Burger Flipping Josh are different people, LiveStream Tyler and Clancy Tyler are also two separate folks
Agreed🤝 although I think many people would agree with that. The first half of blurry is AMAZING and the other half is good but kinda meh it seemed rushed
I have two:
I personally don't like Self Titled (except for Taxi Cab that song slaps) and SAI is one of my favourite tøp albums.
I don't think that every single song they release needs to be dissected for lore. I think the majority of the songs in Trench, SAI and Clancy (so far) have nothing to do with the lore and I'm fine with that.
It’s okay to not like every single thing they put out
This should apply to every artist in general. For top I only don't like around 2 songs tho
i agree… also what two. spill!
Friend, please and before you start your day. That's another opinion to be in chains like the image, I guess.
Friend, please is one of my favourites, probably because one my friends is suicidal and has tried (and luckily failed) a few times.
I feel so bad for you a girl from my school (which I didn't know personally) commited suicide and another girl from my hometown which I used to go in English classes with tried and failed and I felt bad for both of them I can't imagine my friend being suicidal it would be terrible
Not liking friend please is wild but ok
It's a beautiful powerful song lyrically but it doesn't stick with me.
Backslide is nice, but it didn’t hook me like overcompensate and next semester did, those songs are on repeat for a whole day
that’s so funny because backslide is now my new fav song from them. it’s so funny how everyone has such different opinions
Fr, i'm not a big fan of nect semster but backslide if fire imo
Hard agree. I like next semester, but it’s not my favorite song ever
you can be a FAN fan and not know every single thing about the lore. or even barely know about it
I’ve been a fan for 10 years, been to a concert, know every song by heart…. And I still don’t know any lore. I’m not into band lore except for ghost and even that I don’t know much about
Absolutely this. I didn't truly discover the lore until SAI. THANK YOU! Back then I always feel left out because of having little knowledge about the fandoms I joined(like how I don’t know the members of a band or lore). Now, as long as I love their music and just appreciate their existence, that’s enough to consider.
Tyler is not worried about leaks and SAI era is deeply underappreciated. Some songs sounded great with the band.
Level of Concern, and Saturday go so hard with Sky on bass 🫠🫠🫠
I also like him in Shy Away. I knew him from Issues and I loved his time on TOP as well.
I Love sai!! I do think he cares a little about leaks every artist does it’s just not fun when your album gets “released” when you don’t want it too.
SAI band was amazing honestly
I love formidable formidable is amazing
I agree! Tho it hurts to listen to lol. The first time I listened to it, my ex had broken up with me the day before and I'd bought SAI on vinyl and played the album for the first time and cried my eyes out when I heard Formidable. Low-key think that song changed me lmao
i'm really sorry you had to go through that. i hope you're better now. best of luck to you.
one might even say it's...formidable
Y’all worship the guys way too much (speaking mostly to the fans on twitter)
Nah they just super hypocritical and annoying but yes also way too obsessive and bitchy
I'm not active on Twitter but the dudes on Reddit always downvote for saying I don't like SAI.
Not liking SAI is fine it’s just a negative opinion that comes up often. So naturally people start defending it. (I never listened to it until last month)
i used to be active in the community on twitter years ago. the fans there were insufferable.
The cult like obsessive fans are the worst
Valid in all fandoms 100%
All fandoms behave like cults. There's a difference between the fanbase and the fandom. I'm a fan of TØP, I'm NOT a clicky.
I know, I’m also a star wars fan 😭
Saying regional at best is your favorite album doesn’t make you cool
W opinion
I think it is personally but idc if I’m cool or not
Forest is the only song I love from Regional at Best.
Kitchen sinks good too, not a favorite, but it's good
Man, I love Glowing Eyes and Kitchen Sink too.
Bars!! Has some good songs but let’s be honest that album was dog shit has some horrid sounding songs I get why Tyler didn’t officially release it although I would love some redos of certain songs (ruby, glowing eyes, slow town, kitchen sink) those ones are pretty good
We dont believe whats on tv is one of the best tracks on blurrryface, it sounds authentic, has cute lyrics and has a great bassline
My grandma wants my brother and I to sing it at her funeral
Christmas saves the year is underrated
Having attended the smaller shows does not make you superior.
It does make sad that not everyone got to experience them that way. They were exactly like the Backslide MV.
You mean next semester?
Yes
Christmas Saves the Year is S tier
My man🤜
Possibly their most underrated song, though Saturday puts up a big fight
I’m sorry but clikkies is such a cringy word. You can just say “The Clique” or you know, “fans”.
Should I go for more clicks this year or should I follow the clique from twenty one pilots
AJR reference spotted? 👀
AJR is just Jewish Twenty One Pilots if twenty one pilots just did scaled and Icy with a little bit of vessel mixed in. Also AJR is Jewish my chemical romance
AJR is Jewish? news to me
I don't think they are practicing
If they have shows coming up they should probably practice, doing things unprepared is a bad idea!
Omg I don't know you but I like you so much dear TØP and AJR fan you are blessed with your music taste
I also like dream theater so my music taste is probably supreme
Always wished the fandom name was Local Dreamers, but oh well.
I'm kinda new in some stuff, but do you guys can explain to me, why the name "clique" for the fans?
I actually don’t know the origin! But the band does refer to their fans as The Clique, for example in Fairly Local the lyric “even if my Clique were to pick and my people were to vote”
Oh, i never notice that, i'm not a native english speaker, so for me is more difficult to understand, but now i see. Thanks for the explanation!!
No problem! Just to explain a little more, usually clique is a close group of friends that doesn’t let anyone in and maybe thinks they are better than people outside the group. But twenty one pilots is purposely using it as a positive thing instead.

No but this is totally true. (I do really like hometown though bc of personal life applications)
Next Semester is god tier Just kidding Everyone knows that
You’ve got ulterior motives
tell me the truth
Let’s go I was hoping someone would get it
Their non-lore songs are better than the songs that are clearly lore-driven. This is why I prefer all albums before Trench over Trench and SAI.
There’s like only maybe 4 songs I can think of that are fully lore driven. The rest can just be applied to lore but you wouldn’t be able to tell if there was lore on those songs if we didn’t know it existed. Valid tho💯

The story thing was great, I was right there with everyone with the clues and the websites and stuff before Trench, I'm just kinda past that now and want some good ol' twenty one pilots music.
I agree with you in theory, but my understanding is Blurryface was heavily lore-driven and folks like you and I just didn’t know yet.
Ehhhhh. I was a casual listener for a long time, and listened to all of trench and SAI without thinking there was lore. A lot of their pre trench songs have lyrics that allude to A lore (Doubt, Trapdoor). The only correlating lyrics noticed were the words jumpsuit and Nico. as an atheist i didn't even notice a lot of the songs were about god until i did some research and i was like oh that makes sense lmao
It's kind of like an illusion sculpture. If you look at it from the right angle, it all comes together perfectly, but there's a reason that they didn't just put it all together for you and left it open to be seen from many angles.
I don't care about the lore.
Valid and based
I don’t really care about it but I do think it’s cool that there’s a fun story intertwined with some songs
Agree. I think it’s a cool idea and everything, and I used to be obsessed with it a few years ago (the transition form blurryface to trench) but now I don’t really care lol or pay much attention to it
A lot of the TOP Fandom is super cringy, some of yall make me embarrassed to say that they are my favorite band.
no fr every time someone asks me irl what my fav band is and i’m actually honest i feel so embarrassed 😭
"I wasn't raised in the hood, but i know a thing or two about pain and darkness" is one of the worst lyrics I've ever heard
I'm still amazed no one in their team pointed out the problems with that line ahead of the record getting released.
I love Blurryface and this song and what Tyler means by this, but it’s just objectively bad word choice.
that and "gangsters don't cry therefore, therefore i'm mr misty eyed"
I feel this is slightly less cringe because it's more like "in my mind I'm a gangster, I gotta be hard, so I can't cry, but I need to so my eyes are misty" while the other one is like "only people who are raised in the hood can feel pain or darkness, but I do too guys I swear" which is maximum cringe lol
That and "bless your earholes"
Honestly when I first heard that song I thought he was saying “listen here h*es”
I love Lane Boy, but I completely agree
I cringe every time I hear that
some guy argued with me about this, but i PERSONALLY did not like trench. i think there's a few bangers, but overall i tend to skip most of the album. i did really love sai though. trench just does not sound cohesive to me lmao. (the guy who argued with me said that it was "fantastic production" and i was like... it can have the best production, but that's a different conversation from what i'm saying😭)
Valid take i personally disagree and found the album very cohesive and I also loved sai but valid we each have our own taste:)
omg crazy how that works! we can have different opinions and both be right! (i mean this genuinely as possible btw). i never understand why ppl take someone saying "i'm not the biggest fan of this" as a personal attack 😭 like anathema is my fav 21p song but if someone doesnt like it. damn that's tragic, more anathema for me ig
SAI is a damn bop. Half of the people who dislike it is solely because it’s “propaganda”.
Nah they don't like it because the album isn't depressing.
This too!
The lyrics in Sai says otherwise, only real songs without a depressing meaning are mulberry street, Saturday and good day imo, as others talk about sad stuff or say kinda edgy stuff
What I mean by this is not the lyrics, but how the songs sound :)
Nick Thomas and Chris Salih deserve more credit for what they did with the band
Polarize is the best song on Blurryface
Scaled And Icy was the best era so far for the story
I love this take so much. SAI isn't my favorite album but the overall concept of it is easily my favorite.
I don't want to understand the lore. I'm just here to listen and appreciate it the way it is.
Some lyrics are cringe
Drown is better than fall away, which has the same verse in it. I’m not sorry about it I will not apologize. Fall away is good but drown is so much better
i really am sorry to say it but i have never liked ned… i like the CONCEPT of it all, but the cgi is so cringe, and i hate that they started making legit lore with a completely made up animated character
The Joshler stuff is gross. They are real people, not fictional characters you can ship with each other. And tbh it annoys me that Tyler (moreso than Josh) jokingly leans into it for the fans sometimes.
Scaled and icy is actually kinda fire for a good few songs
People who justify being a “true fan” or not by saying you have to had listened to Taco Bell annoy me. It’s not even twenty one pilots 🧍🏽♀️
Bars!! Also people who joined the clique through sai are valid fans too
You don't need to be obsessed especially over their personal lives. It really is possible to just enjoy the music and support them without having to know everything about everything all of the time.
Wowza someone got Reddit cares sent to me because of this comment.......
I like music it's cool

Trench is superior
[удалено]
That's just objectively true
Yes but also people will deny it to high heaven (pun intended) because they don’t want to admit they like Christian inspired music
Blurryface has the most skippable songs
This hurts my soul.
I skip the songs on Vessel most of the time because Tyler’s voice is less developed and it annoys me.
i skip some of his very early productions because it makes me feel like im listening to a different artist's voice. but i also like how he gradually got better along the way and i could tell the difference as i kept listening to his songs though i may/may not like them. and now i really really love their productions
I'll be glad when the lore story is over and they write actual songs again
"Kitchen sink" is one of their best songs and it needs a remaster on a later project. Also "RAB - Ode to sleep" is better than Vessels 🤷♂️
I’m gonna go listen to the rab version for the first time in ten years so I can decide if I think you’re wrong (will update) cool opinion tho
There was nothing wrong with Tyler’s platform shoes post
Same. It was funny.
It was actually funny Maybe not the best timing tho even if I didn’t have a problem with it
THANK YOU nobody knows sarcasm and automatically assumed Tyler is racist
honestly i feel like it was mostly people who didn't know much about top who got mad
SAI is too much like generic pop music for me. Few good songs but nothing “next level” or particularly unique
TOP cover of Cancer, is not better than the original.
And I have another one. Some fans think they are better fans than other fans and that makes fans think “wth?” No one fan is better or bigger than another fan. Added: it really doesn’t matter in the large scheme of things. The majority really doesn’t give a fuck
THIS!!! Twitter fanbase would have a heart attack reading this comment💀
The new “here we fucking go” chant during trees is absolutely awful and needs to be stopped
Rab is not an album. It is a compilation of demo songs
Vessel is the best.
Heathens is a skip
fr i can’t listen to that song anymore 😭 but the mv’s sick
1. Trench 2. Vessel 3. SAI 4. ST 5. Blurryface 6. RAB
Tear in my heart during Roblox 😂
SO REAL . I think HOG gets skipped a lot for me, I GENUINELY don’t like TIMH, smithereens is okay .. I wanna be biased towards it bc I love Trench but I really just can’t and (idrk who or what formidable is about) I feel like formidable is also not really my cup of tea (my least listened to song on SAI)

In my opinion, SAI is better than Blurryface
They have some cringy/bad lyrics, but almost every artist does so it's not a terrible thing
Sai was a good album
The lore related music videos are so cringe to me idk why the whole Ned thing veiebdjebe
Blurryface is their worst album (it is by no means bad)
Bounce man is a good song
My man🤜
Bounce Man is a great song and I'm tired of pretending it's not.
Agreed🤝 although I think many people would agree with that. The first half of blurry is AMAZING and the other half is good but kinda meh it seemed rushed
Scaled and Icy is their best album
Scaled and Icy is their best album.
sai was a great album
I honestly don't like twenty-one pilots fans. They are annoying.
I love SAI xd
Be Concerned is the best song on RAB
Fairly Local is terrible I hate the rap part and the whole song feels super dated to me
Damn… respect that opinion but as a fairly local fan that hurt 💀
same 💀
Trench is okay
The best thing about trench is the instrumentals imo so if you only care about lyrics then trench probably isn’t for you
regional at best isn’t as good as people make it out to be
True. Self Titled is way better.
i guess that its ok to listen to leaks
People that complain about the lore be complaining for no reason. If that’s how they enjoy TOP, by deep diving into the lore, let them be.
Pet cheetah > everything else
I prefer early 2000-2010’s Tyler’s raw vocals to those of the more modern productions
Sai is the best album and Christmas saves the year is their best song
SAI is just as good as the rest of their albums. (Great)
Scaled and icy is one of their better albums
Nico and the niners slayed.
I like vessel the least 😬
SAI is genuinely one of their best favorite albums. Not the best but it’s up there.
I don't like Backslide...
I have two: I personally don't like Self Titled (except for Taxi Cab that song slaps) and SAI is one of my favourite tøp albums. I don't think that every single song they release needs to be dissected for lore. I think the majority of the songs in Trench, SAI and Clancy (so far) have nothing to do with the lore and I'm fine with that.
scaled and icy is one of their best albums
Scaled & Icy is good
The lore is boring now
I didn't like Trench
Ukulele sucks. Also while trench is an amazing album, the cover looks like a marvel DVD.
Taco Bell saga isn’t funny. Stfu please 🙏🙏🙏🙏
The Twitter clique makes the rest of the clique look bad
