When that happens it's usually an engineer signalling to get an unexpected and inappropriately blocked right-of-way cleared. Like when someone parks in such a way that the train will hit their vehicle, the engineer does their damnedest to get a person to clear it because doing so with the locomotive is ALWAYS the last resort.

That most likely is what took place last night, I’m new to the area and am also not familiar with the train lines so I wasn’t sure in case it was something else happening

Could be a truck with a train horn installed. I’ve never met someone with one of those who also wasn’t an absolute douche canoe so blaring it for 5 minutes straight at 11pm is par for the course.

Those truck systems don't generally have the air supply for a sustained blast of more than a few seconds before the thing tapers off in a particularly un-badass way. If it was actually 5 minutes, it was almost certainly a train encountering a blocked right of way.

Stationery is paper. Stationary is when something is not moving. Sorry
