Funny to see this comment here today. Just yesterday I seen a VSX-D710S for sale at a thrift shop by my house for $15.00. I was considering grabbing it, but Iāve had some crummy luck with audio components there a couple of times and wasnāt sure if it was worth taking a risk on mainly because my search online was showing pretty cheap prices for them. Do you know anything about that specific unit? Thinking about going back for it.
I had a vsx-D902S. It did have Dolby, but I only ever used it as a 2 or 3 channel amp. Good power, simple EQ. Pioneer still made a pretty good amp. I think I paid like $800 bucks for mine at the time.
Go back for it. The aesthetics arenāt in fashion, but it sounds great and is damn near indestructible. $15 is much less than it costs to ship one. I have more old receivers than I can count, and wouldāve still grabbed that at that price.
Also cassette tape collecting is getting more popular again. Physical media in general is getting more popular everyday, and I love it. A lot of artists now release on cd, vinyl and cassette
Technics made some nice decks and I still have an RSB-12 that I bought back in 1985 and needs a rebuild. A new model I'd also kill for too if they were to offer decks again. I'd love to see a USB port on one so you can record direct from a CD drive or tunes on a USB stick without a computer, or hook it up to a PC to record playing music direct.

Yeah..unfortunately they use a cheap made in China cassette mechanism now. (As it the only one available now) Maybe with enough demand one the Japanese companies would resurrect one their tape deck mechanisms? (or at least contract with a company in China to make it) I'm sure that designs are still around.
When you are saying mechanism you talking g about the transport control? If itās not eating tapes and the transport works I would call it inexpensive not cheap.

Iāve owned hundreds of LPs, cassettes and still own over 1000 CDs (all ripped to flac for my media server). Even ripped some of the half-speed master LPs before selling.

My best setup Iāve ever had was my AR turntable and Denon DRM-44 cassette deck as sources for my Marantz 1060.
No longer have the turntable, nor the Denon, but still have the Marantz playing my media streams.
I have it too. I love how you can leave your five favorite CDs in it while you play a LaserDisc, then take the LD out and play your music. However mine is in storage as I have a much better LD player and much higher capacity CD changers in my systems.
Check each model on eBay and filter to sold. Here's a few for the laserdisc player as an example.

Would be worth finding out if there are any laserdiscs still about as depending on the title they can go for a fair bit as well.
If you actually want to get rid easily (personally I'd keep hold but not everyone is in to this kind of thing) I'd give everything a good clean and find a local enthusiast group on Facebook. Highly likely someone would take it all off your hands.
Filter results, choose show more, and filter for sold/completed items, as well. Sometimes, what something a ton of people have an item up for sale for is much different than what it sells/sold for

Also with VCRplus you just put in a television shows number (found after the title in TV GUIDE) and it would automatically record, no putting in time start, date, all that stuff. My purchase two years later was a pioneer DVD player around 1996. Cost $1400.

Choose to filter the search results, then select "show more" for more categories to drop down. Then choose to show only the items that have sold/completed. Sometimes this is a more realistic number to sell at, and depending on how many results you get back, it's also easier to see what items sold for in similar conditions to yours
Edit: if no sell or the numbers aren't worth it, garage system, maybe?
Pioneer and Sony gear?, that stuff is likely still working without issue, that Pioneer Laserdisc player on its own is worth a decent bit to the right person

If your remotely into this kind of stuff I would keep it. Clean it and enjoy it. As trying to buy this stuff again will cost you more than you will sell it for. To ship this stuff alone costs an arm and a leg nowadays.

That LD player is also a 5 CD changer and if memory serves has a toslink digital output. Itās a much better CD player than LaserDisc player, and has the very unique feature of being able to play an LD or single CD without removing the 5 CDs from the changer spots in the drawer.
Not garbage...Their is equipment there that people with different interest would be interested in. I haven't seen a Laser Disc player in many years, that's a decent VCR too.
That Sony VCR also makes a very good VHS HiFi audio deck. I had it and used it primarily for that back In the mid-ā90s. Using VHS like that has really become a lost art.
anything sony is always going to be quality hardware. i could go either way on the pioneers. laserdisc is interesting but too niche to ever really collect for.
LD is a money niche that has a lot of very passionate collectors, though. r/laserdisc is a very active sub. Thatās all good quality Pioneer. I have owned and used all of them at one time.
Style is a completely subjective opinion, and one I completely disagree with. And youāre just plain wrong about the quality of every one of those components.

That pioneer VSX is a great unit. It isnāt worth a lot, but it kicks ass. Wait a while and it may gain value. I bought one in 1994.

Thereās some companies making (questionable quality) walkmen, so I give it a couple of years before we get a non portable deck.

And the audio performance of those are abysmal compared to the one posted here. Particularly the high frequency response and the wow and flutter.

I think I had that cassette deck in the 90's. I think it was pretty expensive, too. There was probably a decent amount of money spent here retail.

If not working, All the cassette deck and VCR are likely to need is belts and a good cleaning

I have that receiver in my garage, still cranks. Used it as a shop stereo for years and easily thumped a 40x100ā building from end to end
