You're so much nicer and subtle than me. I'd call OP a fk face dick head and hit OP with a mallet. Not enough to damaged him but enough to discourage this fing behavior.
Well this is a first.... those are my components and OP is a liar liar pants on fire. But regardless, I agree, it IS a pretty sweet setup and thanks to all! :D
Oh boy, that's a spicy meatball!
The '80s - everything in black - but still top range Sony.
Like most here, I'm a silver facade fan, but...
Sony did strut their quality wares at the time as well.
Lord, those peak-meters...
I think I need a lie down.
Itās a hot package, no question, but does it have enough buttons? Do I want to commit this early in life when there might be a hot stack out there with even more buttons and knobs?
Right, not sure what they were thinking slapping those Corny gaudy stickers on the faces. Usually a pia to remove too. Seriously slap the person who thought that was a good idea.
OMG. Iām with the other guy. I need to lie down and put some cold compresses on my forehead. Iāve only ever seen an ES piece here and there in the wild. I am in love with that amp preamp combo! Those VU meters!
Great amplifier! Serviced one for a customer this past yearā¦.. the primary electrolytics are a challenge to replace, no original style replacementsā¦. Then thereās the epoxy encapsulated housingā¦. Came in only putting out 75 wrms/ch @ 8 ohms, after service over 270 wrms/ch!
Nope, marketing l guess.
But, in the early days of HiFi many were referred to as control amps. I think Saul Marantz called his Consolettes?
Again, I'm guessing, but a preamplifier would have source selection, volume, balance, tone controls, filters, phono preamplifier with inverse RIAA equalization, power outlets (switched and unswitched). It was the control center of the HiFi.
Perhaps Sony marketing felt the anachronistic term was classier; more high end.
Just speculating.
im guessing part of why they changed it was because preamp is quite ambiguous. a preamp in that context meaning 'before the amplifier', while in another context such as a phono preamp it can mean 'the amplifier before'. i prefer the term control amp
I canāt evenā¦ wow, what a find. Especially that tape deck! Hopefully it wasnāt too dear. You never know with estate sales - very hit and miss price wise.
That pre-amp is one of the best ever made by Japan. And it usually is $$$. It is actually on my bucket list. I am kinda jealous ā¦ I hope you enjoy this setup for a very long time.
I was lifted the top 3 components, along with a LD player from that line and a special limited edition receiver from the same line as well. It was the last analog receiver that they were ever going to make and they went all out on it.
Unfortunately, I couldn't buy the remaining components due to their popularity and price. So, I searched for a long time, till I found a worthy buyer and sold it. That line is undoubtedly sexy as fĘ°ÄĘ!
I had an ES receiver at one time. I got it off eBay to use in the home office. Loved it so much I swapped it with my older, late-80s Sony receiver in the living room.
Thatās solid state stuff already?
The amp looks really nice .
I donāt get it why modern amps donāt come with VUs anymore .
Mostly only the super expensive high end stuff has it .
Did you go to the estate sale of the [person that bought that 11 months ago?](https://www.reddit.com/r/vintageaudio/s/MFlueDhrMY)
nice!
Well done
š
Recycled post I would assume.

Hey, somebody has to try to be the nice guy out here, right? Now ducking for cover....š¤Ŗ
Hahaha, nice catch! OP, youāre an idiot!
Busted!!!!
Well this is a first.... those are my components and OP is a liar liar pants on fire. But regardless, I agree, it IS a pretty sweet setup and thanks to all! :D
What a weird thing to do. Nice fucking stack though.

Kyocera has plenty of button bling!
Maybe youāre right. Op you donāt have enough buttons. Better send this all to me so I can help you recycle it ;)
Yup, accused of the same in one of their other three posts about meat.
I need full screen meters in my life.
Got damn! Those meters! Awesome
it's NEW! :D says so on the sticker. ;) Nice stack. You can see those meters from the neighbor's living room.
The first thing I do is to remove stickers when I have bought somethingā¦
Right, not sure what they were thinking slapping those Corny gaudy stickers on the faces. Usually a pia to remove too. Seriously slap the person who thought that was a good idea.
That's beautiful š
So many buttons! Love 80's gear. I don't have any ES gear yet but I keep looking. I do lave an 80's Luxman R-117 and it too has buttons on buttons!
Hot damn thatās a nice stack. Been looking for some nice ES gear for years but just never come across any.
OMG. Iām with the other guy. I need to lie down and put some cold compresses on my forehead. Iāve only ever seen an ES piece here and there in the wild. I am in love with that amp preamp combo! Those VU meters!
Damn. Beautiful.
Beautiful!
Gorgeous
Very nice!
I have the matching 5 Disc CD Changer from this series! Thrift store find for $15.
Perhaps the OP will find one too to complete this stack, plus a TT. Then build a rack to hold them all!
Definitely on the hunt for a matching single disc player from this era, but the prices are outrageous

Does the stereo control amp just act as a preamp?
Yesš
Is there a reason they named it that instead of a preamp?
Nope, marketing l guess. But, in the early days of HiFi many were referred to as control amps. I think Saul Marantz called his Consolettes? Rotel still calls its preamps control amplifiers I think
Cassette deck with an IR remote. Wild.
Sony ES!!! Their top shelf gearā¦ excellent score š
F me sideways. I hope it at least cost more than a few meals at McD's.
THIS is my 80's DREAM
I don't think the tape deck has enough buttons.
Douche
Woah woah those VU meters omg I'm in love
Thats a nice stack. That cassette deck is the 2nd highest quality dual well ever made.
That is nasty. What a stack!
Absolutely beautiful.
That stuff is the real deal. Congrats on a terrific find!
Looks spectacular
How much dollars for all did you pay OP ?
Very nice stuff. I would have swooped that up too.
Wow what a find
Nice Iām happy for you ā¹ļø
I canāt evenā¦ wow, what a find. Especially that tape deck! Hopefully it wasnāt too dear. You never know with estate sales - very hit and miss price wise.
A real beauty and Sony did these components right.
very nice.....
Marvelous stuff. And you found the one really good dual-well cassette deck!
That pre-amp is one of the best ever made by Japan. And it usually is $$$. It is actually on my bucket list. I am kinda jealous ā¦ I hope you enjoy this setup for a very long time.
Gorgeous
That has more VU meter than amp in it!
Well done sir!
That power amp is a beaut
W i n n i n g
I dream of owning a sony like this but they rarely show up, one came up on fb market place about 2 months ago and sold immediately for 1600 bucks
Back when super bias meant only something to audiophilesā¦.
I'm jelly bro, my favorite look.

Love the large VU meters
Good find.
Extremely nice!Ā I'm jealous of your system.. š
Sony Elite series Amp, Pre-Amp, and tuner. All with a matching woodside panel dual cassette deck. That's a mini lottery.
This, with a cd player on top, is my dream hifi stack.
Reposts are a garbage way to get attention.
I had an ES receiver at one time. I got it off eBay to use in the home office. Loved it so much I swapped it with my older, late-80s Sony receiver in the living room.
My GOD that is so beautiful and cool I can hardly find the words to express....
Nizeeee
Beautiful gear, love the amp
Oh sweet Jesus that amp!!
The holly smoke sony ES series š
I need to hit up more estate sales.
Most excellent!
Missing the 707esd cd player. Those and the 507esd are magic
Sweet Stack..
Stolen Valor... Repost. your IP has been blocked.
That, my friend, is one sweet looking set up.
Schwing!
I think I just came
Thatās solid state stuff already? The amp looks really nice . I donāt get it why modern amps donāt come with VUs anymore . Mostly only the super expensive high end stuff has it .
Very nice.
Older equipment, but good pedigree, and very pretty!
Too new
