I've been using computers since 1989 and the walmart wire is the most ridiculous unintuitive website I've ever seen created. Angelfire sites made more sense than Walmart Wire.
The system is set up poorly, IMO. Reqs can either be set up as internal (shown to people already working st the store) or external (shown on website for new hires) and not both. So most of the time jobs just end up being listed externally because the store needs more people, not necessarily just to fill a position.
The reason why is they are looking for someone to blame or don't want someone with experience with Walmart that 'knows better'.
Something didn't get done, blame the new hire. Something went wrong that will cost the company money, they let someone go.
As far as if it is cost effective due to the cost of a new hire...they already allocate that expense as a (we already know) the % of new hires don't make it 1, 3, 14, 30, ect. days.
You said a mouthful! I wanted to transfer out of Garden Center. Never got a transfer or anything. I ended up leaving for a better opportunity. The funny thing... The SM was so shocked by my resignation that he asked me to stay part time. I declined.
My buddy had this happen as he tried to get promoted. He had to transfer stores everytime. He has now been promoted 4x at 4 different walmarts and had to move over 100 miles trying to stay somewhat local, and that's with 2 walmarts being in the same town
This may be a little too logical for Walmart, I don’t wanna give them too much credit here, but MAYBE, certain stores will do that because they don’t have enough employees already? I mean it makes more sense to hire someone for a vacant position, than to transfer someone and have to hire someone else to take their place… just me?
Facts.
During my experience with the company, the SM and SL will have a "candidate" favored due to certain things the individual accomplishes if internal.
That’s why I was skeptical because… they don’t be thinking logically so I’m sure there’s some other reason they have on the other side of the spectrum😂
Walmart has well over enough employees, but it’s not their fault they hire terribly reliable people who barely even show up and don’t take action for an while before terminating them.
So if it’s like Sam’s Club’s hiring, there are these requisitions called ‘evergreen’ positions that are posted that are open all the time for every non-supervisory role as an external candidate pool. It doesn’t mean that that position is necessarily open at the moment, it just means that they’re taking applications for the future. It’s a little misleading but it also makes sure that we always have a pool of candidates in case we need to get people in quickly.
What happens if you apply externally while working at a different location to a new one? I mean they will figure it out but... wouldn't it increase the chances of being hired for a better position?
They didn’t open req. for internal applicants is the simple answer. Not all of the positions that one may see on external career preference would be available to internal applicants until management or PL opens an internal req.
Pl means people lead which is basically hr. As a PL, i don't post internal reqs unless 2 options:
1. I have an associate that is transferring to another department or another store. In order for an associate to transfer to another store, we reach to their people leads to see if they have anything open. I am a D1 store. I only have 157 associates, during Christmas it goes to 187 at best.
2. We always post our team leads reqs internally first. Our market believes in promotions. In my store alone, over the past year, we have promoted 9 associates to management positions. Most of them being from overnight. The last one was was our overnight night team lead is now a coach-in-trainnee. He position is posted internally and we have over 10 associates that we need to interview from our store.
If you quit, you will have to wait 6 months before you can reapply. The system will block you. And, depending what they code your termination as, you may make yourself as unhireable. I usually don't hire associates with certain termination codes.
The stores I’ve worked at have never been like that. I always just ask personnel before even looking at the wire and they tell me what’s opening up or what’s already open. It’s been easy for me to move around departments
My coaches have tried telling me not to move before but my personnel is very strict and doesn’t listen to them. She goes by the book. If you meet requirements, she lets you sign the job offer even if she’s told not to let you transfer if there’s no reason to cancel your transfer
I’ve been trying to move to the mornings from overnight and I’ve been told “two weeks” on two occasions.
Their loss, not mine. They claim they need help in the morning and you can have someone that actually works. Have fun with mediocrity.
Probably because if you request a transfer, that means you're leaving an opening for your current position. They'll have to hire/ transfer someone to take over that position. I've rarely had an issue with transferring departments in the past, but I'm very aware that things change so much at Walmart that it doesn't surprise me if they decided to make things complicated.
Yeah, I went to PL this morning after my shift and she said the same thing, lol not looking forward to it as I've only ever spoken to the man once and that was as a customer and it wasn't a fun conversation

I could quite literally code a better format no cap.
Oh God. I forgot about Angelfire. The fanfics are coming back to haunt me now!
My store literally NEVER has jobs listed as available until it’s TL but yet they literally hire 2-6 people every couple weeks for random positions

Because they opened an external req not an internal one. They want to hire outside rather than transfer someone.

Yup, Walmart doesn’t always post their listings internally. Tbh they almost never do at my store if its not a supervisor position

At my store they don’t post positions, usually they pick their favorites without letting anyone know the position is open..
How did you find this? I've done caeer searches muiltle times and never seen it look like this.
O/N maintenance is a separate requisition that daytime maintenance.
It’s hard to go from a front end position like maintenance/cart pusher/cashier to another department 100%.
I have a coworker in ogp who was told that he’d be transferred to deli three months ago and they just keep telling him “2 weeks”
Wow Walmart is so stupid that they don’t associate to be happy.
That's about right!

Icon for janitorial associate should be a toilet plunger
Or no a no union symbol. Otherwise Sam Walton will curse your toilets for that type of talk.
Lol

They make you put in a transfer to that Walmart. A coworker of mine tried and they told them they would have to put in a transfer request
I finally got promoted internally… after they termed my husband. 🙄

At my store if you are good at your job they won’t let you move to another department.

Yeah, one of our front end workers called up and asked and they said for maintenance and cart pushers are almost impossible to switch departments

I been trying to switch for 3 months now
I'm going through the hassle of trying to switch, I work in frozen and coach does *not* want to let me go to maintenance
