Did you even watch the press conference? At all?
Bettman basically confirmed we’d get the draft once the hotel is complete. As for the North side of Portage, it’s been talked about for at least a year that TNSE is interested in purchasing Portage Place - hell, there were even architectural renderings released at one point.
Maybe DO YOUR RESEARCH BEFORE YOU GO OFF ON AN ALL CAPS RANT.
I saw about 5 seconds on talk of a draft (nothing on what that might look like). And even less on the North side of Portage project, of which Bettman clearly has some insight on or he wouldn’t have mentioned it.
I saw about 30mins of him answering questions about attendance. Did you see something else?
What do you even mean by ‘what a draft may look like’. It’ll look like Winnipeg, hosting the NHL draft. And it’ll happen once the hotel (which Bettman talked about picking up construction again this summer after a Covid pause) is complete.
As for Portage Place, it was a slip of the tongue. TNSE hasn’t even publicly confirmed the project is going ahead, though it’s a pretty poorly kept secret I think.
How else would you ask that the information be spoon fed to you?
I’m not the guy to ask what a draft in Winnipeg would look like, Gary is (was).
Slip of the Tongue is exactly what media should be jumping all over. That is quite literally the scoop.
Spoon feed please, Instead of shoveling the shit attendance questions down my throat.
But what does that question even mean? How would you expect someone to adequately answer your question of what a draft in Winnipeg looks like? You want him to have the full event planned out down to every last minute before they even know what year we’ll host it?
But like, any movement on that front? When is the last time that was asked by anyone who really knows?
One thing is for sure, they missed the chance to ask today.
You’re an idiot, you think tnse only owns the jets? They have plenty of non hockey related ventures that bettman would have no input, consultation on or involvement in whatsoever, he’s not a shareholder, he’s not the ceo, he’s not on the board. So again, why would he have any insider info on non hockey related ventures like buying a shitty mall in Winnipeg?
We will never have an all star game. He was just being polite. He said a new hotel needs to be built before we can get the draft. What more do you want?
There are no provisions in the CBA for players regarding Allstar game locations or optional participation.
I understand this narrative but it’s based in pure speculation.
I just wanted to add that sports broadcasters aren’t really journalists for the most part. I mean TSN plays content created by the Jets. There’s a bit of a conflict there.
Sports broadcasters are the gym teachers of the broadcasting world sure, but good sports broadcasters would disagree with you. They are quite literally in the business of journalism, even if it is sports.
Why would you want an all star game? Didn’t you see all the player who were disappointed to be going to Toronto? Imagine if it was Winnipeg? No I’m good
I don’t disagree with you about that. but I’m talking about the surrounding circumstances and comments before the all star game.
I’d love a draft though! Show off Winnipeg in the summers. As long as Alberta isn’t on fire putting smoke over our beautiful province
We never will, and I don’t want one in Winnipeg. Players will hate it and you’ll have everyone doing what kucherov did at this past one. Asg should be reserved for exclusively popular vacation spots, and drafts can go to all the other teams
I’d love one. Imagine incorporating the river trail, or at least the harbour ice (weather pending of course). But I think all the fans in Winnipeg would love to showcase this town.
From someone living in the glass house that is Edmonton, surprised to see you try to throw stones lmao.
I'm just gonna tell you right now, if we didn't have a team, you'd be the most undesirable location in the NHL, even with McDavid. Cry more.
I looked at your comment history and saw you asking for hotel recommendations, so naturally, I assumed you didn't live here.
Doesn't change what I said though. Edmonton is Winnipeg with a big mall. Plus, they have the extreme downside of living in a province ran by Danielle Smith.
People can live in Manitoba outside of the perimeter, I know that's hard to comprehend.
Edmonton is a dump as well.
I think most cities are dumps.
Way to turn this political, not going there lol.
And then Ed Olczyk came and said "we're gonna win the cup....and bring it back to Winnipeg!!!!"
And everyone cheered like they were at the Arsenio Hall show!
My thought on the all star game is the timing. It happens on the bye week before the superbowl. The NHL should be loading that weekend up with big games to try and grab viewers who would normally be watching football. Every team should have 2 games that weekend let the people turning off the pro-bowl see some high paced hard hitting hockey and recut a ton to new fans.
Basically anyone that’s on an NHL broadcast is on the inside and won’t do anything to harm the reputation of the league, the teams or the players. Basically TSN and the Jets are partners and both have the same interests in mind and questioning the commissioner about difficult subjects is not one of them.

I think you just want to be angry about something tonight.
Yea. Love being angry lol.
But what does that question even mean? How would you expect someone to adequately answer your question of what a draft in Winnipeg looks like? You want him to have the full event planned out down to every last minute before they even know what year we’ll host it?
My only guess is that he is talking about the fact that they want to get rid of the in person draft and just go digital in the next few years.
They extended it to June for a decision. Most likely trying to squeeze more $$
That stuff is all public record and has been reported on extensively. Sutton Place Hotel and Portage Place.
But like, any movement on that front? When is the last time that was asked by anyone who really knows? One thing is for sure, they missed the chance to ask today.
Why would bettman have any insider info on tnses non hockey business ventures?
He is quite literally in business with them.
You’re an idiot, you think tnse only owns the jets? I would wager a bet with you that Bettman knows more about the long term vision of that project than you, I, or any of the local newspapers do.
Thats because bettman is a genius.
We will never have an all star game. He was just being polite. He said a new hotel needs to be built before we can get the draft. What more do you want?
Never say never. People once said the Jets will never come back to Winnipeg.
The players already don't like going to the all star game its gonna be a hard sell to get them to go to it in Winnipeg.

That’s why I said for the most part.
Why would you want an all star game? Didn’t you see all the player who were disappointed to be going to Toronto? Imagine if it was Winnipeg? No I’m good
That was the best Allstar game in nearly a decade what are you taking about?
I don’t disagree with you about that. but I’m talking about the surrounding circumstances and comments before the all star game. I’d love a draft though! Show off Winnipeg in the summers. As long as Alberta isn’t on fire putting smoke over our beautiful province
I honestly don’t want an All-Star Game. I don’t think it would be successful here. I think the Draft would be a massive success in Winnipeg, however.
I mean. I can see a world where both could be great, but the draft far more obvious.
We will never get an all star game.
We never will, and I don’t want one in Winnipeg. Players will hate it and you’ll have everyone doing what kucherov did at this past one. Asg should be reserved for exclusively popular vacation spots, and drafts can go to all the other teams

Winnipeg is a dump, don't kid yourself

Why do you think I'm from Edmonton? I live in Manitoba lol

Not sure we have a hotel problem in the Peg…I think me smells bullshit on that one
We’re talking about accommodations for millionaires, not your relatives.
Yup. It is what it is. At least we have a team, for now.
And then Ed Olczyk came and said "we're gonna win the cup....and bring it back to Winnipeg!!!!" And everyone cheered like they were at the Arsenio Hall show!
hes on cjob right now
Why would even want an all star game? They are terrible and should be cancelled.
i'd be down for an all-star game, tons of stars in one game would be awesome to see in my hometown. A draft would be interesting as well.
I think you’re missing the point.
The point was the athletic ran an article that the nhl is pouring water on
Which Bettman addresses minutes into the interview and the people asking questions wouldn’t move on from.
Nah they just want the click bait questions.
AHHHHHH
I really enjoyed that interview given all the negativity surrounding the Jets leaving lately
I thought after this year all future drafts are going to be remote? Unless all the GMs will be in one location.
Team representatives will be remote, the players will still be at an event. It’ll be similar to how the nfl draft is ran
That’s a good point. Someone should have asked Bettman 🤔
Someone could just as easily look at the nfl draft which is what they’re modeling the new draft after
Tied to this - what’s up with the hotel construction he mentioned? Is it still moving along?
Cjob interview was not much different than his earlier presser
Not surprised.
I agree. I heard John Lu’s and Kelly Moore’s interviews. Neither even posed the obvious questions adeptly, especially Moore.

Basically TSN and the Jets are partners and both have the same interests in mind and questioning the commissioner about difficult subjects is not one of them.
I feel like they did ask questions on difficult subject but not necessarily relevant ones.
