I don't think they care long-term. In 2060 all countries agreed to stop using oil. US agreed to 2050, that is only 26 years away. For Europe Ukraine is extremely important for battery manufacturing. It's the most resources rich country in Europe. European Lithium has contracts to mine lithium in Dobra and some other location in eastern Ukraine. Ukraine has 20% of world's graphite reserves for battery anodes. China is trying to get licences to mine lithium in Ukraine too. Of course that will be way easier for China when Russia gets the territory. And BYD and CATL factory is right next to Ukraine in Hungary. Another Geely factory is in eastern Slovakia.

You do know that plastic and other petro-byproducts are still in high demand, right? The rest of the world, aside from North America and Western Europe, still very much need oil to fuel ICE vehicles.
Based off this article and the fact it noted that no major American firms bid on this offer, I’d wager the Americans didn’t want it to begin with.
That said looks like Iraq took the best deals it could get as the article also notes Iraq met with oil execs from America.
Iran is continuously attacking US bases in Iraq, makes sense that US oil companies would not be price competitive in Iraq. Risks would be too high compared to a more neutral country (to Iran) like China
China about to pour more resources than they have and end up will less than 1 billion population and an economy that's terrible and won't ever take over Taiwan.
Usa and china alliance is like a guy in the neighborhood making a friendship with the local drug dealer who murders people
Chinas current government is too evil for that crap right now.
It might not matter to the rest of the world but this situation is incredibly offensive to Americans who built Iraq with their lives and tax dollars over the past two decades. Iraq is right to do it, but this is a major symbolic blow to American nationbuilding efforts in the middle east.
>incredibly offensive to Americans who built Iraq with their lives and tax dollars over the past two decades
I live in neither country, but have a hunch that it was incredibly offensive to Iraqis when Americans came in unasked and started nationbuilding with missiles and tanks. They might actually still be slightly salty about it.
It was also pretty offensive for Iraq to slant drill into Kuwait and to run their tanks into Kuwait after being called out on it.
And it was doubly offensive for Iraq to then launch missiles at Israel to try triggering an Israeli escalation in an attempt to escalate the Gulf War even further
1st Gulf War over Kuwait happened during Bush sr's presidency in 1990. Iraq War started over a decade later when Bush Jr. was president. It had nothing to do with Kuwait.
My bad. It's hard to keep track of which time America got involved over there. Especially since both times were presided over by a Bush presidency, and Saddam Hussein being in charge of Iraq both times too.
House feuds in the modern era, fucking Capulet x Montague feud. Or Hatfield x McCoy since gold was involved.

Well Bush, I hope it was worth it while it lasted.
🤨
Eh, the beaufort sea has ample reservesÂ
China has been the largest foreign agent in Iraq's oil industry for a long time.
Just as long as they are using U.S. dollars it should be ok..

Sounds like Iraq could use some more Freedom and Democracy

What a surprise (no)
F em all
Ya, I heard bribes and veiled threats will do that.

Just like with the continent of africa, were good to make bases and destabilize and destroy while china keeps showing up to re build what we destroy.
I'll probably regret asking, but what did "we" destroy on the continent of Africa?

I'm an American and I'm salty about it. A 20 year war for nothing, Nothing!

I'm sure this will work out fine once Iraqi's find out how they treat the Uyghurs. But then again, do Iraqi muslims care about Chinese muslims?
Muslims don't care about each other. Look how Gulf countries treated Palestinians refugees
