Perceptions start to change when alien soldiers start telling stories of being saved by human allies, and the lengths humans will go to to keep their side safe. IOW, many of the insane, near suicidal tactics humans use to assault their enemies are ALSO used to save the lives of their friends and allies.

OmegaGoober

“Wait, they’re made of meat? They’re not cybernetic or fully artificial life forms?”

shoot_and_go_bois

"And that's the kicker, humans are no less than their battle-plate, the might of their flesh is equal or greater than the might of their metal. It does confound me how such a squishy race can be so *bold."*

mafiaknight

That's what I've been trying to tell you! They're meat all the way through!

MoneroWTF

Great work of art, love that story

Swarmlord5

Me too. Laughed a bit when a couple friends of mine read It out loud at school (they are the class clowns)

Would you share with the rest of the class please?

A short, scaled arm reached back to scratch behind Ji'thar's head. It was a nervous tick, one his captain knew all too well. "Still unsure about today's new arrival?" His superior said, head tilted in question at his crocidillian first-mate. Recieving a sigh and short nod in response, the captain closed his eye as a chuckle left his throat. "I know their reputation might be a little... Off-putting, but that's exactly what we need! With the piracy going on in the local sector right now, we need to look off-putting to anyone wanting a chance at our cargo." The captain explained, stood by his seat, looking from the slightly raised platform down onto the fairly sized bridge, where several crew members worked away to ready the ship for the next voyage. Lowering his arm again, Ji'thar opened his jaws, a low growl of a hiss escaping into the room as he argues back. Shaking his head with a sigh, the captain fully turned to face the worried yellow eyes. "I understand, I truly do. But you must see that this is necessary, even if maybe a little overkill. We must be ready to defend ourselves against growing threats, and... And here comes our defence." The pair turned their attention to the doors at the opposite end of the bridge, sliding open to reveal their newest crew member, a hire from a Human corporation. Metal slammed to metal as large, heavy feet stepped through the threshold of the door, unwavering in their path laid directly towards the platform. A platform that may as well not exist, the head of the plated mercenary meeting the same height as the captain, despite being on the lower floor. Movement across the bridge ceased as crew watched in awe, the tall figure armoured in grey and green, rivets lining each of the largest pieces across the entire body. The obvious strength of the being was matched only by it's somewhat less obvious strangeness. The only lights on the suit were the visior, rectangle across the faceplate, and a ring on their upper back, a strong dot of colour coming from the centre. The intimidating form came to a stop before the commanders, the sound of a grumble, probably from the suit servos coming to a halt, echoing quietly from somewhere within. The captain speaks first, offering a nod, and then a raised tentacle in greeting. "We finally meet, Kill-da. A pleasure to have our newest aboard." No response comes from the human, their posture almost perfectly still as the pinkish appendage of the captain hung for an awkwardly long time. About to lower it once more, he instead froze upon hearing more sounds. A hiss and a clunk came from somewhere in the chest, then a chinking of metal and a further hiss from the neck. A final click sounded from the faceplate, before suddenly a hiss of escaping gasses as the rectangle of light opened like a book. A billow of white steam left the newly opened hole, forcing the captain and first-mate to step back in suprise, before clearing a few seconds later. Stood to attention, a smile almost as large as her head plastered on her face in pride, stood a human inside the head of the suit, a jumpsuit pulled half down to her wait and tied, with a tank top which might have once been white left to cover her clearly warm body, a layer of sweat evident even from further away. Bringing a hand up in offering to the Captain, the human spoke. "And a pleasure to finally make it to you and your vessel, Captain! Oh, and uh, it's Hilda actually! Sorry, I think I'm still getting used to the translating service on the station, I've not spent much time on stations really so I've not had to do much myself, it was always the sarge that used to do the paperwork when I was in the navy. Yeah, didn't do much past look after this one, glad they let me keep her! Probably because of the honorable discharge and all that, they can be really kind if you do your job right, not like the army... Not that we use the army much, definitely not in space, or on stations, so I guess they'd never have to do the paperwork or work with the translator either, but sorry bit sidetracked! It's really good to meet you and I can't wait to meet the rest of the crew! I think I have some paperwork I'm meant to get you to fill out and then send back to the agency, or maybe it was to keep and they were sending you your paperwork? Honestly, so much more paperwork involved now I'm doing this! You know, back in the navy, we had to fill out our orders for parts and that was it! They had such good admin people that we just-" Ji'thar leant over slowly towards his commanding officer, letting out a confused growl at the human the size of his forearm stood inside the open head of a suit of armour in front of what seemed to be a hundred moving cogs and belts. "Yes..." The captain whispered back over the ongoing monologue, "...yes, I did wonder why the pay was so low." The human, Hilda, had seemed to have reached the end of her novel-length sentences, and let out a satisfied sigh and a nod. "So, sorry... Do you have a cupboard I could put this in or shall I just leave her here?"

CycleZestyclose1907

Bravo! I want more humans using mechs in Space Orc stories. There just seems to be a dearth of them.

triponthisman

That was fucking awesome.

DM-Hermit

Do you have more like this?

Crypto-Boobology

I used to write more to these prompts, so there might be more back in my profile history. I should really start doing them again...

DM-Hermit

Ok, I shall go have a look

Expert-Lie-3666

I read her voice in an Irish accent, which only made it better XD

Crypto-Boobology

A far better option to what I had in my head, this is now canon

hacktheself

She sounds so ADHD. I love it.

pyr0kid

i remember that episode...

Icy_Option_8278

I will all ways look back at it to show what paramount should have done

pyr0kid

tbh i dont feel like ***anyone*** really understands how to make halo anymore. i miss that reach/odst/trilogy vibe where it felt like there was a whole war going on in the background, now its that spartan 4 cheap plastic power ranger vibe.

Icy_Option_8278

Agree to most of it but the halo tv show is not bad but I would prefer animated and leaning more to the original they should of just made a lore accurate fall of reach because that point in lore is very confusing because the book and halo reach contradict each other

piday98

Where from?

dragonus85

It's from halo legends, a series of short animated stories. All of which are good. If memory serves Akira toriyama made one of them.

ConnorWolf121

I don’t have strong memories of every episode of Halo Legends, but this one, the shonen battle with Spartan-1337 and a genetically modified brute, and the one where the dude used the prototype mech suit to hold off a Covenant invasion while everybody else evacuated all stick out pretty clearly in my mind lol

warsaw1234566

Odd one out and prototype

Sigruldar

We are soldiers, Xorlo. We do terrible things because we find ourselves in terrible situations. And we beat ourselves up over it once we get the time to reflect on it. We are soldiers, not monsters.

TRjackyboi

A wholesomely heartless and cruel nature

eseer1337

We slaughter without mercy so that the children will be safe to show it.
