What works for me: while holding arrow button down, then select mode (holding the buttons down simultaneously does not work). Then select down arrow again.

Wow, I tried for an hour trying to figure this thing out. The instructions are terrible! I came here and just as Alsofrustrated said, press the down arrow gently and F2 came up the first time. Thank everyone for your help! The only other thing I noticed was as I was lifting the filter back up one of the cables was getting loose about half way to close. I lowered it back down and put a little pressure holding back as it closed to keep the cables tight and it closed fine. I may add lead weights in the future, just the grill is a little light by itself.

What worked for me. Breaker on. Power off. That's standby mode. Press mode then down. Hold until you hear a beep. F2 should appear on the unit LED. Then press down, another beep. It'll come down. To send it back up. Press up. (Seems like all button presses are a press and hold. Quick clicks don't work.) Also, I have found more info on the Comfortstarusa.com website than on mr cool website. The hardware is identical. https://comfortstarusa.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/Service-Manual-for-T1W.pdf *

I had the same issue with my newly installed Mr Cool ceiling units: vent cover wouldn’t respond to remote. Finally got a meaningful response from tech support: “ April (MRCOOL) May 23, 2024, 08:45 CDT Ok make sure that door is closed and just press the power button on the remote 1 time do not hold it down. Once the cassette goes off then sit the remote down on a table of something to stabilize it. You must be very precise when pressing the mode and down button at the same time so make sure you are actually pressing them at the same time then hold for 3 seconds. When F2 shows up press the down button to lower then up button and the panel should move back into position.”

It’s the most frustrating thing about these units. Tried months ago and took me an hour of trying different combinations to magically make it happen. Need to clean the filter again and can’t get it to drop. The instructions are worthless. What is standby mode? Let me know if you figure it out.

I ended up turning off the breaker - just via the disconnect - and then powering it back on. The system immediately started pulling up the filter.

I had same issue. Standby mode is just turning the head off with remote. Press the Mode button and the down arrow key at same time for three seconds. I did that according to the instructions a thousand times. Nothing! the trick is when you are pressing the arrow key is to press it gently. I did that and it now gives me the F2 mode. Press the down arrow key when you see the F2 and the filter will lower. Press the up arrow key o retract the filter once cleaned.

I'm going to try this tomorrow. Thank you so much!

Pressing it gently worked… lol… also wait a minute or two after turning it off with the remote.

Same thing with Alpine Home/Blueridge models --- probably any of the re-branded Midea units. I've been trying it forever... and apparently I was pushing the button like an angry chimpanzee. Be nice to it and it works... sheesh.
